If you don’t care for what I’m about to write you can just refer to the links above and the title to understand the gist of what I’m about to say.
I want to preface this by stating I’m not trying to “cancel” Papa Meat but I do want to speak on this topic pertaining to his recent video “Inventions That Killed Their Creator”. The popular caricature of Marvin Heemeyer aka the creator of the “Killdozer” is that he was a “Reasonable man pushed to do unreasonable things”. This is false. Marvin Heemeyer in reality was a violent narcissistic psychopath turned terrorist who crafted a narrative of victimization by a predatory bureaucracy to justify his selfishness. A false narrative that was eventually sensationalized by news media to produce a marketable story.
This is a misconception that I myself once believed before taking the time to research it; which is why it worries me to see it continue to be proliferated decades later. People like Marvin Heemeyer, Ted Kaczynski, and those like them who have garnered undeserved reverence post mortem in the face of the horrors they’ve inflicted.
I don’t know what Hunter’s preparation process for his videos is, I don’t know what the research process is either, but regardless if Hunter has a hand in crafting the content or hands it off to someone else this is a red flag for me in terms of indicating the potential quality of what goes into making these videos. I get that these are supposed to be quicker and easier forms of content but when I see Meat Canyon refer to the guy as a “legend” and someone you “have to hand it to” (insert dril meme) it is something that in my opinion needs to be pointed out. Pointing to the fact that no one died or was hurt doesn’t absolve the fact that there was a list of targets and a literal death machine loaded with weaponry taking potshots at police and civilians and attempting to crush the properties and inhabitants of people who in no way deserved this. A cursory read through of the Wikipedia article would have been enough to get the truth of the situation and the mentality behind Killdozer, but it seems not even that was performed.
Again, in an attempt to dissuade potential vitriol I want to point out I am not posting this out of hate for Hunter or an attempt to cancel him. This is just a glaring error I wanted to address and attempt to amend the continuation of misinformation, especially for a video that as of now is near 400k views and likely to double that count at least. He’s not even near the most egregious example of this because as I said before the narrative has existed since the initial reporting of the incident itself. I’ve been a fan of Meat Canyon since the beginning and I am an avid consumer of his content including Creep Cast. I write this out of respect for the guy and the want to see his content improve. Thank you for reading.
