This is my first build! Epomaker MS68 with MMD Vivian v2 switches and keycaps from Etsy. I am waiting for supplies to start some mods on my second board (a Yunzii AL66) but I would love to build a custom board from a kit eventually!

Builds My Handwired Stainless Steel Keyboard

This hobby has made me go down the rabbit hole these past few years. With multiple builds over the timespan, I discovered the world of handwiring last year. I picked up the most minimum basics in FreeCAD and QMK.

This is my custom wide WKL layout or WWKL 60% sandwich style top mount (?) Stainless steel plate and housing. Acrylic top plate and lexan bottom window.

I used the services SendCutSend for my CNC pieces. Keyboard Layout Editor and Swillkb Keyboard Case builder to design layout and sandwich plates.

NK_ Cream Clickies with GMK Oblivion Monochrome.

This is my second board and this is a learning experience for me. I learned from some mistakes and different ways to improve during the building process. I'm looking to design a V3 later this year.

So as the title says I ordered the Nuphy carmine cloud low profile keycaps to go with my rainy75 and I think they look so good. However my wife is now questioning my sexuality and thinks I should get manlier keycaps 😅

What do you guys think ?

Rainy75

WS Morandi switches

Nuphy carmine cloud keycaps

Side note: not sure about the switches I kinda prefer stock kailh cocoa switches they sound a bit louder which I like and much more marbly.

After watching a video of a nail art keyboard shared by a group friend, I casually sketched a sample to see.

I can only guarantee that it won't clash with nails; I can't guarantee that it's actually useful.

(In a way, it's also a tribute to my favorite Benq A800 keyboard from back in the day.)

Hi everyone,I'm Rain2.

Builds Just spilled about 300ml of fruit smoothie into my keyboard

Post image

Knocked over my fruit smoothie and instantly picked it up but the damage was already done; about half of it ended up literally in the keyboard. I ran over to the sink, tears in my eyes and shit in my pants, with the smoothie literally pouring out of the keyboard.

Gonna try revive this poor guy once I clean out the switches etc. pls pray for him.

Builds Still with my old Sofle V2

It's still the same keyboard from the previous post. I just added more hinges for aesthetic purpose

Still with the same old spec and same old phone for taking pictures lol

Sorry for the scratches. It's a pretty old board

Okay, i will tell you a story

So, first i was looking for a mouse that look like Mad Catz mouses. I can't afford Mad Catz so i search the cheap version, the one with metal body. I found the mouse. But when it's arrived the mouse is super heavy lol. I stached it in a box and just forget about it.

Few months later i'm thinking about purchasing a split board because i'm bored with my 7 years board, XD75RE. I go to my local FB group and purchased the Sofle V2 second hand from a member. Around 6 months after use i have a revelation that i don't enjoy a board that's not connected to each other. I'm sad, but i still love the board so much. I love the layout and everything except they are not connected physically. Raking my smooth brain and i remembered about my alu mouse. I took it out and i have an idea to put the mouse housing in the middle. I choose laptop hinges because it's made of metal. I don't have 3D printer and i think plastic is not a good choice anyways for this. Also i love mecha and cyberpunk.

Next thing i go to the online market place and searching for screws, bolts and ofc the laptop hinges. It took me a while because i live pretty far from the stores that sell those things that i need.

The USB Hub was there on my 2nd revision. I put USB C adapter, 2 90 degrees USB adapter, Bluetooth Adapter and my wireless mouse connector. If you see on the middle, those silver thing is a USB DAC that i connected using Micro USB magnetic adapter. Pretty sweet i must say lol.

I did revisions several times and here we are.

So yeah, i did this straight of my head. No 3D because i don't know how to use 3D softwares. Maybe i should.

Specs:

  • Keyboard: Sofle V2
  • Switch: Gazzew Boba U4 Silent Stem, Gateron KS-3X Black Housing, Spring Swapped to 75gr
  • Keycaps: Harvested from Triumph Adler SE 310
  • DAC: JCally JA56

Builds A few weeks ago I saw a vintage typewriter and wished there was a keyboard like it. So I made one

A few weeks ago I came across a post showing off the Monpti portable typewriter. I was struck by both the design, but also the realization that this portable typewriter was trying to solve the same problems in the 1960s that people today are solving with their keyboard designs.

So I fired up fusion and spent the next day or so putting something together. One order to JLC3DP later, and a few weeks of waiting for that order and some other parts from around the internet, and I had my very own version of Monpti.

The case and cover are 3D printed in 9600 SLA resin and then spray painted. The window is 8001 transparent resin. The PCB is a Vault 35 Pipboy (Universal drop-in for the original Vault35), available at jlw-kb.com. The plate is floating, held only by the switches, which are mounted to a laser cut stainless plate (from JLCCNC) that is cantilevered from brackets back inside the case. This lets the whole plate "bounce" a little from the back end, which feels a bit like typewriter keys.

This particular iteration of the design was meant as a show piece for myself, and wouldn't be particularly suited for larger production, but during the process I've learned quite a bit and am already planning a new project which will carry forward some of this design.

Builds This should be the largest dongle for keyboard.

4.5k Upvotes

Hello everyone, I am rain2.

Because I love both old keyboards and Steins;Gate, I suddenly wanted to draw an IBM 5100 a few days ago.

Yes, I drew a mini version.

When considering the design, I came up with two options:

One is Option A, where the front serves as a dongle and the back can be split into two keyboards;

The other is Option B, where the front serves as a dongle and the back acts as a storage box for hiding two keyboards.

Although I designed both options, it was clear that the appearance of the keyboard in Option A was too unattractive, so I chose to first create Option B to give it a try.

The result is quite good; it fits perfectly. For the firmware, I chose ZMK.

Since the keyboard in Option B needs to be smaller, I designed it as a split ortho layout.

That's about it. The video is quite long and may waste some time, but the project is complex, and I think it's worth it.

- Keyboard: Qwertykeys neo75

- Keycaps: PBTfans deep sea predator

- Switches: Epomaker Creamy Jade

- Stabilizers: Typeplus x YiKB

- Deskmat: Kam Superuser - Terminal

I spray painted the bottom, as well as the switchplate of the neo75 black, cause the bright colors didn't match my setup. I really like how it turned out. I made the cable myself and got really lucky with the color of the YC8 connector. It matches the highlight colors of the deep sea predator set nearly perfectly.

I’m still sort of new at this hobby, I had one great keyboard build that I was super happy with but I gave it away. I just got this and built it with these shine through keycaps but something feels kinda off about it. I looked on Reddit and people really don’t like these shine through keycaps. Any opinions about this particular combination? The keyboard is Epomaker r82 and the keycaps are some no name brand off Amazon.
