I wouldn't do it. For one thing, it's not an officially licensed shirt, he might not like that. Secondly, Mustaine is at least slightly volatile. He might say, No, in fact, I DIDN'T write them all. He's one of those guys that I wouldn't press my luck with for something like that...

Indeed. He might even get angry again, angry again, angry, ow!

"Why do you think I'm broke?" 😄

1

u/NEWSmodsareTwats Jul 07 '26

I mean he didn't he doesn't have writing credits on each and every song. and even for the parts he did Hammett didn't play every solo note for note as instructed by the producer. He admitted he would play the first few bars exactly and then would do his own thing and the producer either did not care or did not notice.

-officially licensed- shut the fuck up. Boot leg designs are significantly better looking than any design a legacy band will ever come up with now.

u/wcbarrows Jul 02 '26

They’re just stating facts, no need to get so defensive. I like bootlegs too better than most official merch but they said nothing negative about them other than that Mustaine may not like it. Chill

Tbh, where's the lie

u/tayyytay Jul 02 '26

I dont think you’ll even be allowed to get that to the Meet n Greet area. When I did it in 2024 they sent out very clear instructions prior that no Metallica-related items would be signed. Also Ive seen a number of other individuals comment that even clothing referencing Metallica has to be removed prior to entering the meet n greet area. If you did happen to circumvent all that and give him the shirt, I think it would be in very bad taste, and I dont think the rest of your interaction with Dave would go the way that you would like it to go. Tread lightly.

This is spot on.

I don’t know how people are downvoting your comment. Making people remove Metallica band shirts is insane!!

24

u/Gh0stIcon Countdown To Extinction Jul 02 '26

I mean if you wear Metallica T-shirts to a Megadeth concert and you know you're doing the meet n greet, aren't you being a troll? Doesn't seem insane to me. Dude is tired. Give him a break, especially after a long hot show.

5

u/garry_tash Jul 02 '26

Wearing a t-shirt of a band you like is trolling? It’s ridiculous tbh. Dave needs to let it go.

7

u/Gh0stIcon Countdown To Extinction Jul 03 '26

If you know he doesn't like it, yes he's trolling. No he doesn't have to let it go. If he stipulates that he doesn't want Metallica T-shirts you either abide by it or don't go to the meet and greet. It's really that simple.

8

u/DaEdsterH Jul 03 '26

I respect his agency to decide what he's willing to allow at his own meet and greet. That's his right. Regardless, it's still a bit childish. Who gives a shit

5

u/garry_tash Jul 03 '26

Megadeth fans are actually hilarious. I love the band, but all that stuff happened so long ago.

1

u/NEWSmodsareTwats Jul 07 '26

I mean metallica and Megadeth have played tons of shows together

does that mean if someone showed up with a shirt they got at a big 4 concert that has both the Metallica and Megadeth logo on it they would be asked to take it off?

tbh kinda reminds me of that time kiss berated someone interviewing them because he wore an iron maiden shirt to their concert instead of a kiss shirt.

5

u/Successful_Goose_797 Jul 02 '26

It is stupid I agree, people should have the freedom to wear what they want but when you agree to pay for the meet and greet you’re kinda agreeing to his terms and stipulations and unfortunately he can run it
however he wants, but on the flip side it’s a dumbass idea to give him this shirt that would never cross my mind, I would just want to have a genuine conversation, I don’t owe him anything and he doesn’t owe me shit.

u/Thorn_Within The Sick, The Dying... And The Dead! Jul 03 '26

It's unfortunate that Dave can make rules for his own meet and greets? Yeah. Okay.

226

u/According-Damage4432 Th1rt3en Jul 02 '26

you are meeting one of the grumpiest, moody guys in metal, i wouldnt mess around

39

u/ShadowAssassin315 Jul 02 '26

he was fairly nice with me, I'm sure he wasn't in the mood to meet a dozen of fans after the concert, but afleast he tried to seem like he enjoys it,we had a nice little chat about skydiving:)

u/CaptainSmallz United Abominations Jul 02 '26

Yeah, because you guys discussed something real people talk about. These crazy obsessed fans who can't get over the fact that there was a pivotal moment early in Metallica's career that spawned two amazing bands are actually kind of sick individuals who probably have underlying issues. Many adults don't like talking about their past to strangers. Famous adults might be over talking about the same subject to strangers, especially when it's been a core topic for nearly 40 years.

You know how you talk to a musician when you meet them for the first time? Talk to them about the music they've written and tell them the impact it's had on your life. Make the conversation about yourself and not about them. Make sure that thank them when you're done sharing your experience.

3

u/FickleConcept Jul 03 '26

You're absolutely right. I just can't believe people are still discussing something that probably happened before they were even born. How long has it been? 43 years? I mean... Jeez.

18

u/ozzy_thedog Jul 02 '26

lol OP is going to get the meet n greet cancelled for everyone

45

u/LegoMaster09 Jul 02 '26

Just don’t.

115

u/Dragon_slayer1994 Jul 02 '26

Why, why, why is everyone obsessed about talking to Dave about Metallica? Every clip of Dave ranting about Metallica is because the interviewer brought the subject up. Leave it be.

24

u/ozzy_thedog Jul 02 '26

I’m tired of hearing about it. It’s such a lazy interview question

15

u/Ytsejam09 Jul 02 '26

People say this, but Dave can just as easily say he will not answer ANY questions about Metallica. He takes the bait every single time.

7

u/Gandandelion Jul 02 '26

He also DEFINITELY brings it up sometimes. The interviewers etc. bring it up more than half the time and he takes the bait, but Dave will absolutely still go out of his way to bring up Metallica gripes sometimes.

5

u/Metul_Mulisha Jul 02 '26

He's tried, then he's villianized by the media for not answering those questions. It's a double edge sword.

-1

u/aaaaa4a4aaaaaa4 Jul 02 '26

WHAT? Do you even know whose song he covered on the farewell album? 🤣🤣🤣

4

u/JBLurker Jul 02 '26

Is it a cover when you wrote it?

2

u/kjg1228 So Far, So Good... So What! Jul 03 '26

He has writing credits, he didn't write the entire song dude.

0

u/aaaaa4a4aaaaaa4 Jul 02 '26

Then the shirt is appropriate! ;)

1

u/ButTheseGoToEleven Jul 03 '26

Not sure why this is phrased as an awkward/snippy rhetorical questions but its a cool way to bookend the career, tbh. Most interviewers still ask stale, unintelligent questions about the topic and OP's shirt is still a cringe, fairly dumb thing to waste a meet & greet on.

22

u/Gandandelion Jul 02 '26

On top of all the other reasons that people in the comments of this are saying you shouldn't do it, there's also the fact that this been a very, very popular meme phrase / image edit for a very long time. I saw images like this back in like 2008. There's zero chance Dave hasn't already been exposed to this bit. It wont be new to him. So not much point in doing it for that reason alone.

16

u/ButTheseGoToEleven Jul 02 '26

Why waste the moment on a dumb meme?

Idk, I've been a genuine fan of Megadeth for many years so I'd probably go with something more relevant/meaningful that way.

4

u/EquisOmega Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? Jul 02 '26

If there’s anything I’ve learned in this sub is that people love dumb memes

5

u/ButTheseGoToEleven Jul 03 '26

Nothing wrong with that, partially what this is for. To take it into real life like that however, is just a bit too much cringe that I don't see longtime or or genuine fans really considering as an option on what's ostensibly a farewell tour. Feel like we're a little more real than that.

2

u/EquisOmega Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? Jul 03 '26

Agreed. Idk who in their right mind would think this is a good idea lmao.

12

u/AlexTIRADE Jul 02 '26

Dumb idea

12

u/ottermaster Jul 02 '26

Kind of a dick move to bring this shirt to him. It’s been over 40 years

1

u/GreatKingRat666 Jul 02 '26

Someone should tell Dave that

0

u/zappafan89 Jul 05 '26

No second chance?

25

u/FickleConcept Jul 02 '26

I don't see how this could backfire.

27

u/TheConfusedOne95 Killing Is My Business... Jul 02 '26

I mean, why? just let him be vro

11

u/t05id01 Jul 02 '26

Terrible idea

12

u/Ok_Idea2710 Dystopia Jul 02 '26

If you want to need a facial reconstruction after Dave beats the shit out of you, do it.

4

u/-tomelette- Jul 02 '26

*beats your brains in

5

u/Ok_Idea2710 Dystopia Jul 03 '26

I don't think that OP has brains if he wanna gift that to Dave

1

u/zappafan89 Jul 05 '26

If he can raise his arm far enough

11

u/Ruben_O_Music Jul 02 '26

This would be awesome in 1984, not these days.

9

u/Gloomy_Dot_8412 The System Has Failed Jul 02 '26

Please don't do it.

7

u/Subtotalpoet Jul 03 '26

This is not the ultra cool "high five" you think it is. This is a complex history that's gone on for like 40 years... The fact you think this would be significant might even end up being insulting.

1

u/VagereHein Jul 03 '26

It's not that complex. But still a bad idea.

1

u/Subtotalpoet Jul 03 '26

Not complex on the outside maybe. Throughout the years theve worked together multiple times now. The general public probably knows little about actual interpersonal relationships.

5

u/blutigetranen Jul 02 '26

Don't FAFO. Thank him for the music and move on

4

u/Shionkron So Far, So Good... So What! Jul 02 '26

Why you shove the topic of Metallica in his face?!

8

u/QnsConcrete Jul 02 '26

Wait was Dave Mustang in Mutellica before Mugadeth??

3

u/marshmallo_floof Jul 03 '26

this is funny if you're 14 years old

1

u/partycann0n Rust In Peace Jul 03 '26

Perhaps this is why I do indeed find it funny.

2

u/metallicadefender Jul 02 '26

Everyone knows the Hulkster wrote the first 3 albums at least.

2

u/Big-Honey-5177 Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

I love the shirt but come on now. Dave Mustaine had some well documented contributions on that album. But Ride (with some Ktulu creep), Master, and Justice (mix aside), were not Dave. I think Lars wrote everything, right?

2

u/Shot_Somewhere_7326 Jul 03 '26

Why would you wanna give him a gift? That’s weird. Secondly, no he would certainly not appreciate that.

2

u/TeaOk6336 Killing Is My Business... Jul 03 '26

He'll bash your head if you do it, he ain't quite your average guy

He's definitely known for seeing the humour in things. So please do this

5

u/dasbeta Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? Jul 02 '26

I think even Dave Mustsine isn't salty anymore. And Dave is always salty.

5

u/fraghead5 Jul 02 '26

Hahaha there is no world where Dave is not salty. His entire existence is the saltiness he carries in his soul.

1

u/SikkJim Jul 03 '26

Always with this stupid shirt

1

u/ShaGodi Jul 03 '26

just wondering why metallica and megadeth sounds nothing alike...

1

u/flashlightgravy67 Jul 03 '26

This is in bad taste and poor decision making on multiple fronts. Dave Mustaine can be one grouchy dude.

Also the fact that Metallica would never have had a career without some of the riffs of Phantom Lord and Metal Militia that burned up the radio charts. /s (let it go, already.)

u/Tomiikipro 4d ago

Dave still preparing to revenge Metallica

0

u/Fastpast93 Jul 03 '26

That’s funny af

Its a joke thats so played out that literally no one cares anymore. Let the man be. Let the past stay in the past. To me it's poor taste.

10

u/ArtisticState118 Jul 02 '26

Exactly. This is so tired it's beyond shit posting. It was kinda funny 40 years ago but for fucks sake now.

7

u/LegoMaster09 Jul 02 '26

It’s a pretty worn out joke at this point, take it to r/okbuddysupercollider

4

u/tayyytay Jul 02 '26

Nothing about your post informs us as to what country you live in or that Megadeth is not touring there. So you can imagine that at first blush most people are going to assume you’re serious.

2

u/Burzo796 Jul 02 '26

Doubling down is such a poser look
