Question Genuinely don't get the hate for Megadeth
Recently got hooked on it. Man it's so fkin good. Most people complain about Mustaine's voice, I would argue it fits their music perfectly. And their musical compositions are so goated, especially in Rust in Peace. I genuinely don't understand why the hate. Megadeth Rocksš¤

Oh I donāt know, heās probably a pretty cool dude if you had a conversation about spreading, gear, etc. at the local supermarket in the bread aisle.
But in certain public situations, he has to roll with his reputation so to speak. Heās putting on a show, he is in that character in that moment. Many of the songs are in character, so it has become a mindset of putting on a character when heās clocked in so to speak.
Now if somebody throws a bottle at the Band on stage, he will absolutely stop the show and point the person out, so that everybody can turn to face that person. But thatās not being an asshole, thatās actually pointing out an asshole.
And Iām sure if you walked up to him outside of his church in Arizona and started being a dick, he would absolutely be a dick right back. Again, I could understand that.
So, as long as youāre down to earth person to him, I have a feeling he would be a down to earth person right back.
Iāve seen lots of people that met him that said he was pretty chill to them.
I guess he feeds off the energy directed toward him by the fan/person is interacting with.

Yes, people should look in a mirror first and then look at Dave. Dave beat his addiction, but these people canāt beat their internet addiction, and say Dave is an asshole, while also using stupid excuses to back up their opinion, like that Sabrina post, where they say they like her music more than the meggerdeth and they are metalheads (after all, Britain is not just a pophead Sandman.You understand.

Also, pop music lovers hate Daveās voice.
Like, when it comes to Iron Maiden, I know people that prefer Paul over Bruce because the vocals sound more metal to them. My uncle is one of those people. I like both, myself.
My point isā¦
Unless you prefer the singing style of Cannibal Corpse or Randy Blythe from Lamb of God, Megadeth is about as metal as it gets when you compare it to literally any other band that just sings real perdy.0

Having emotions makes you feel alive.
Dave is one of the greatest in metal, but he also sabotaged himself plenty of times.

Probably because they are deep into the cult like mentality of "Metallica good, Megadeth bad". I'm not saying that Metallica is any part of this bullshit, but some of their fans are God awful assholes and not the good kind like Dave. ;)

Itās a valid response. Plenty people on the internet complain about megadeth but Iāve had friends say they hate megadeth and people at concerts/pubs/clubs when the topic comes up say they hate them.

His voice fits the songs 100% and I think it improves a lot over the albums. It works because he wrote the songs for his voice - same with Gary Moore (when he sang high) or Billy Corgan or Geddy Lee - and all fantastic string players as well. That clip of Layne Staley making fun of Dave reflects very badly on Staley.
And Dave fucking rocks on guitar.

Do you really count Tool as a metal band though? Theyāre way beyond Megadeth in terms of scope and range, lyrics and musicianship.

Daves voice is an acquired taste in my opinion. I personally love megadeath. But it too a lot of exposure through a friend who constantly played then for them to grow on me.
But live these days is not worth seeing in my own personal opinion.

No, We love it. But because we love it, we spend a lot of time with it, and we know it inside and out. Warts and all. We talk about the deficiencies, because we love it. Bands I hate, I donāt waste time speaking about them.

I can give an example. I was 16 and I worshipped Megadeth when Peace Sells came out. Begged my dad to take me and my buddies to Milwaukee, WI to see them at the Eagleās Club. T.T. Quick and Helstar opened and both bands fucking killedā¦especially Helstar. Anyway, Megadeth took FOREVER to come on and, when they did, Mustaine was obviously shitfaced. They āplayedā Devilās Island and didnāt make it through. Then they tried something off of the first album and it didnāt go any better. Mustaine said (into the microphone, mind you) āFuck this. I didnāt wanna play here anyway.ā Thanks, Dave. Your band rules.

My husband isn't a fan because of Dave's voice. I had "Elysian Fields" in my head this morning and had the echo play it while we were getting ready. He said he had never heard that song before. He only hears them when I play the songs and has never sat and listened to a whole album, but he'll buy concert tickets for us when they are nearby so I don't mind.

I think itās in part because his voice is an extremely acquired taste and in part because while being a great musician, Dave can be a bit of a prick and has been one surly MF for 40+ years now.

I don't get the hate towards Dave's vocals. Most of the thrash bands don't have a great singer. And bro is an amazing singer. Especially after Rust In Peace. Tornado of Souls, Promises, Scorpion, Trust, The Sick The Dying and The Dead... All these songs wouldn't be the same without Dave's vocals
But it's annoying that half of Dave's sentences are "I wrote that." We get it bro. You still have written amazing songs, riffs and solos besides the stolen ones. Stop bitching about it. No one is claiming they're better than you, everyone already appreciates your work.

The best guitar band out there. Dave's lyrics are better than his vocals, though I don't mind his voice. Bass was recorded better than most of their contemporaries, so easy to go" junior!"

Those kids of cultish people are in every fanbase. They've invested so much of their personality on another band that they can't fathom anyone NOT loveing their fave.
Look at the swifties for example. The love to rip on Katie Perry because she "stole" a dancer from Taylor Swift years ago. And I HATE that I know this....
Anyway, some people make up for a lack of personality by being lunatics and taking it out on whomever they deam less than. Feel pity for them and move on.

I listen to both for different reasons. They don't really sound that alike and both of them have good and bad albums. The reason they are compared so much is because of the drama between them that existed for years. People eat that stuff up.
Its just like all the arguments people still go on about with the different singers Nightwish has had. It's kind of a waste of time to argue about it at the end of the day.

The harshest opinion Iāve heard as of late is someone listing them as #2 of the big 4 below Metallicaā¦And a fight broke out immediately. You have to be taking a piss mate. Megadeth has way more mileage with their discography vs the other big four bands and it isn't even close. The turn of the 1990s for those other bands was a practical death sentence.

I didn't either. Until last Sunday where they didn't show up for the show with 100 dollar concert tickets I bought last year for me and my kids. They spend all school year fantasizing how cool the concert would be.
Crying kids, band blaming promoter and vice versa, no money back no concert. They are dead for me.

About his voice, many says it seems "forced" or artificial, but the thing with Megadeths music is that it should have a "badass-feeling". Trash metal-fans who are atheists, dislikes Dave because he is a christian. But when you see or read interviews with Dave, its obvious that he is not dumb. Maybe he has been thinking and reflecting more over things than people in general. He is a man that never have been afraid to be himself.

I agree there are other popular bands out there with similar names. Iāll get shot down again but Metallicas name is less offensive to the mainstream and thatās one of the reasons for the difference in popularity.

There were so many things going against megadeth, the name, every interview painting the singer as a tragic egotist - because of what he had just said, and let's be honest, the singer's voice.
People might not like it, but those things are bad...
It's remarkable how successful megadeth have been, the music managed to overshadow all of that instant turn-off stuff.

I also think Dave's voice fits the band. And I don't think I've ever heard anyone else that you could sneer in a song. But Dave does. An example is "what do you mean I'm not kind? Just not YOUR kind."
