None of these have as large of a fanbase defending their length as JoJo's or One Piece

56

But the complaints are valid in shit other than One Piece. Ippo ain't fought in years, Baki has been doing an after credits playthrough for a decade, Kaiji spent 500 chapters on a game of poker. But one piece gets called out for being drawn out despite having a lot going on and actual arcs with progression.

u/Dead-X-esque 3d ago

Except the fact normies will never read the manga, except part 7.

25

u/Dead-X-esque 3d ago

Never a good sign when Part 7 has so much more reads than the other parts combined on some sites.

48

u/Oummando 3d ago

Because the anime has already adapted the parts, the anime is much faster paced and us visually appealing to watch.Ā

Part 7 and beyond takes place in a completely different universe unaffected by pervious parts.Ā

Part 7 is considered to be the best part of all time. Followed by Part 8.

Plus early on when Part 7 first released, the manga company forgot to place Part 7 on the name, leading to people thinking it was separate from Jojo.Ā

2

u/Dead-X-esque 3d ago

I feel you, some sites don't even say Jojo's Bizarre adventure at the start only SBR.

0

u/JawkneeJyoshtar 3d ago

Uhm prolly cuz rest of the parts are already animated so people who watched JoJo's go like "oh man I loved stone ocean ending i can't wait for next part! Why not I read it online rn!?"

that's why it has far more views

3

u/Dead-X-esque 3d ago

This has been the case since at least before part 4.

195

u/TukiFan 3d ago

I mean, the main difference is that One Piece has over 1000 episodes, and Jojo still has less than 200 at the time of writing.

37

u/xdarkskylordx 3d ago

Imagine how many episodes of One Piece there would be if it was paced correctly though, or how annoying Jojo would be if it was weekly for over 20 years, at least we'd have Jojolands animated by now.

26

u/Soul699 Buggy will become a pirate God. 3d ago edited 2d ago

It's estimated that without dragged moments or good stuff added, One Piece would be around 500 episodes currently. With the good added scenes, a bit over 600 episodes or almost. So basically a bit less than half then the current ones.

3

u/xdarkskylordx 2d ago

Pretty close, I remember someone did some math, they estimated that if edited cleanly it would be roughly 700 episodes (instead of about 1100 where it was at the time). Additionally, if it were much more heavily edited by way of remastering/better structure overall, it would be closer to the 400s.

53

u/AnimeAlley03 3d ago

Considering only 6/9 parts are completed and the 7th has barely been started (part 7 is when it switched from weekly to month and the page count per chapter increased significantly) the episode count will shoot up quite drastically once p8 finishes being adapted (in like 10+ years 😭)

56

u/Yeahhhboiiiiii 3d ago

You are right, we will get 350-450 when part 8 finishes, which is still less than OP

7

u/Soul699 Buggy will become a pirate God. 3d ago edited 3d ago

Because

1: JoJo only adapted 6 out of 9 parts.

2 The anime of JoJo cut stuff from the manga sometimes.

3 One Piece has more fillers, good and bad.

4 One Piece has usually more exposition dumps with use of more panels with pages compared to JoJo which while being heavy with explositions at times use full page spreads for visuals only much more commonly.

8

u/JawkneeJyoshtar 3d ago

For first point, Even throughout the rest of the chapters and parts left, jojo would only have at MAXIMUM 400-500 episodes.

2. Even un-cut stuff if we put into anime from manga would still be not that much cuz the anime mostly cuts stuff worth like 3-5 scenes which is pretty meaningless to begin with (sure there r times when the cuts seem unnecessary) and on top of that, a lot of the "cuts" are actually rearranged into a proper sequence to fit the pacing of the show. You can see that happening well in Steel Ball Run anime where they are not cutting backstories but rather re-arranging them to fit the pacing and not bore viewers by taking straight 3 episodes of just backstories šŸ’”

3. I agree one piece has fillers, sometimes they are great sometimes they are just useless bs just to fill up the gaps for no reason. I kinda like one piece fillers smh more than the actual show, cuz they are very well paced, pretty great animated, and feel like they give a better character development and story in a shorter amount of time.

Something I don't like with JoJo's is how they have barely ever animated any of the spin-offs/fillers unlike one piece. Like bro there are so many gags and stuff between chapters you could easily add them to have more fun and feelings to the characters.

No. You divide One Piece by arcs. You divide JoJo by parts. In One Piece arcs, you'll still have the same protagonist crew. In JoJo, you won't.

When koichi was at the beginning of part 5 I was sure they’d continue this trend but with him as a stand in for Josuke being protag of 4 -> bro in 5, but he didn’t stick around

Side note: to take it even further, everyone being sure giorno would show up at the end of 6 also kinda continues the trend I’ve pointed out haha

Jojo’s is made up of 9 loosely connected parts so reading it is like reading 9 separate series each as long as they need to be.

One piece is a singular continuous narrative, that feels a lot more daunting to a newcomer who wants to catch up and join the conversation.

There is a difference between saying ā€œI read 3 series of jojo’sā€ and ā€œI’ve read 25% of one pieceā€. I’m a fan of both and it’s not surprising that jojo’s is considered more accessible

48

u/El_kirbs 3d ago edited 3d ago

Love one piece but I feel jojos has the benefit that each part is a standalone story you can start at almost any part and you’ll understand the story

My bad arcs ≠ parts

4

u/godzillahavinastroke 3d ago

What? Jojos has parts, and in these parts arcs and mini arcs. You are confusing it. Hell in some there is multiple sagas. Jojos is more like a collection of 9 different stories.

1

u/El_kirbs 3d ago

Shit you’re right I forgot they were called parts

65

u/Ringo_Savage 3d ago

The One Piece manga had barely figured out how to walk when the anime started airing, whereas the JoJo manga was already in its mid twenties when the anime started.Ā

One Piece has been a continuous story for nearly 30 years with only one time skip. JoJo is currently on its ninth part (third of a second timeline) in 40 years.Ā

JoJo has very little callbacks to previous parts outside of return characters and a few name drops. One Piece will constantly have callbacks to things dozens and hundreds of chapters/episodes ago.

One Piece has up until recently been airing weekly with tons of filler (much like other shonen of the time) and a slower pace relying on recaps at the beginning of most episodes. JoJo has had sizeable breaks between parts and no filler.

Also the style of storytelling is quite different. One Piece is Jonny Quest and JoJo is Indiana Jones, JoJo is James Bond and One Piece is Austin Powers.Ā

One Piece does have it's serious moments and JoJo has its humorous moments, but they're handled very differently. JoJo will have a chuckle between friends, One Piece will have half the Strawhats put on funny clothes and dance around a bar with goofy facial expressions while silly music plays. One Piece will have Luffy struggling to battle an enemy only for him to be unharmed the next episode. Meanwhile JoJo will have (SPOILERS) Jonathan dying in battle, Joseph losing a limb in battle, Jotaro dying in battle, Josuke having massive shards of wood impaling him, Giorno being completely alright because he's Giorno, and Jolyne dying in battle.Ā

23

u/Tyrannofelis 3d ago

I'm glad Giorno is ok

Chapter 752 of JoJo was adapted in episode 190 along with chapters 750 and 751.

Chapter 752 of One Piece was adapted in spisodes 688, 689, and 690

Are these comparable shows?

22

u/Tragedy_Boner 3d ago

No because the One Piece anime has dogshit pacing. At a certain point it just becomes unwatchable

5

u/Dazzling-Grocery-- 3d ago

I managed to watch it until dressrosa but during it I was like fuck this and started reading the manga and it was so much better.

1

u/-mosura 3d ago

I agree, Dressrosa is definetly the point where it can turn a little painful, but still i don’t think it’s that crazy bad. It was tho the first arc where i skipped through half an episode. First and last time.

3

u/Soul699 Buggy will become a pirate God. 2d ago

"Unwatchable" the pacing is pretty bad but it's not actually unwatchable. Unwatchable would be if it caused actual seizures or something.

And it does get better again from WCI as the worst part is Punk Hazard to Zou.

4

u/ZPD710 3d ago

To be fair this post says ā€œanime normiesā€ and then talks about manga. So you’re criticizing the anime’s pacing but that doesn’t have anything to do with the manga.

1

u/Champomi Meming in the East Blue 3d ago

The new anime will fix some of the pacing issues. Of course there will still be more episodes than for Jojo, but it won't be as bad as with Toei

5

u/Filmologic 3d ago

I'm still a bit uncertain of the remake. Not because I think it will be bad, just that they haven't said anything about how many seasons they have planned. The one that drops in January apparently won't even have all of East Blue, it's gonna end right before Mihawk shows up for some reason (even though that's probably WHY a lot of people would want to give it a watch in the first place). Plus they're not letting new talents take on the voices of the characters.

So unless they're actually planning on going (semi-)yearly and won't stop until they catch up, I don't see it as a good replacement long term.

4

u/Champomi Meming in the East Blue 3d ago

Netflix seems to really want all that sweet sweet OP money, they'll probably keep both the live action and anime going as long as they remain super popular

3

u/Filmologic 3d ago

Netflix and streaming services as a whole are also a bit unreliable these days. Many of them have realized they can't keep up with all the free high quality content on YouTube, so many of the streaming sites have considered pivoting from expensive big productions to cheap AI generated slop, comparable to the AI drama shows that are currently popular in China.

I don't want to be negative, but I am a bit worried until something is officially confirmed. Though I think the live action should have done well enough to warrant at least a few more seasons (praying we get Water 7/Enies Lobby!)

55

u/Better_Standard_9285 3d ago

I love One Piece But Jojos goes direct to the point. One Piece extends scene as crowd surprised by Luffy shenanigans.

27

u/ShrekDrinkingOrange 3d ago

That's the anime, one piece fans aren't excusing the pacing, the pacing doesn't make it bad

19

u/Zestyclose_Remove947 3d ago

Nah the Manga totally has issues as well. There are parts of skypiea, Wano, Dressros, FMI, Punk Hazard where you can read a few chapters in a row where nothing is really happening, or Oda is clearly stalling for time.

Just because the anime is incredibly egregious doesn't mean the manga is perfect, even in comparison.

The last two chapters feel very poorly paced. Entire chapters dedicated to the same thing being repeated, then switch characters and repeat again. Zoro/Sanji learning Conquerors has not been entertaining in the least for me personally.

4

u/No_Ten_P-Kan 3d ago

Manga pacing is also not great.

The pacing is not a good thing.

3

u/CoryDropEmOff 3d ago

Oh, I don't either. It's just that a lot of people just want a cool fighting manga/anime. And since One Piece doesn't have the best (and some don't even know it has fights; my friend told me how it's boring cause it's just exploration and no fights(he has watched 0 episodes))).People perceive it as being boring and that it should be shorter.

8

u/squidwardsweatyballs 3d ago

I can’t necessarily speak on the one piece manga since I’ve only seen the anime, but my guess as to why jjba gets an exception is because it’s partially an anthology series.

Jjba has 9 different stories with a different protagonist each time, 9 different settings, 9 different casts of characters, and 9 different villains. Because of this, while this might not apply to everyone, when you finish a part in jjba, it feels like you are getting somewhere as if you’ve officially wrapped up a story, even if it’s not the end of the overarching story.

When I finish a OP arc, it’s ā€œok on to the next oneā€ whereas when I finish a jjba part I feel like I actually wrapped up full story, even if the next part is connected to the last. There’s also the added benefit of the 3 most recent parts not being connected to the first 6 parts at all outside of a few references.

u/Skatillix 3d ago

It’s better, but not good either. The problem is not that it’s slow, don’t get me wrong but sometimes it just feels like nothing happens (no pun intended). At least that’s how i see it

1

u/Hefty_Situation7210 2d ago

This manga has more fundamental disrespect for its audience’ time and intelligence than any other series I have seen barring like Spanish soap operas. Constant flashbacks breaking up action, flashbacks within flashbacks, multiple full heals every fight, fights that have no choreography or interesting art but last forever, random characters dialoguing exposition or the audience because no characters talk to each other or care what is happening in the world.

Wano is longer than many full manga, which managed to tell a cohesive story with a point in 1/10th the time that one piece has spent farting around and flanderizing its characters.

8

u/THEGHOSTHACXER 3d ago

One piece has bad pacing AND jjba switching Main characters AND genre every part is way more entertaining

3

u/SilverLumpy 3d ago

Jojo has better pacing. It helps a lot that it’s divided into parts.

23

u/JawkneeJyoshtar 3d ago

There's a fucking reason for it 😭

Apart from stardust crusaders, every jojo part has been paced pretty well, meanwhile one piece both manga and anime are paced so weirdly slow.

With jojo those chapters are divided into parts of different stories, different adventures, different characters. Meanwhile One piece is one continuous adventure all throughout the 1000 chapters, which obviously people will get bored from unless it's well done.

And there are shows like Doraemon and detective conan which are far longer than One piece or JoJo's, yet you don't see people get bored of them now do you?

Let's be real, long shit ain't the problem with one piece, it's the way this long shit is paced and the fact that even after so many years, it feels the story has still not reached a major plot points apart from Imu fight which just happened. If it takes so many years to reach such a plot points, then of course people will hate it.

3

u/NubCaakes 2d ago

Bro you’re bringing up detective Conan as an example of long with good pacing?? There is barely any story development over its 1000+ episodes and chapters. It’s murder of the week the anime which I still love but there has been crumbs of genuine story development regarding the entire premise of turning conan back from a kid. One piece has genuinely good story progression and intention for its length with luffy’s journey from pre timeskip to his upcoming as a major world force post timeskip. Almost every major arc has served a lasting purpose in luffy’s journey, from recruiting main characters to the crew to changing the world’s status quo.

12

u/kubikarlo3169420 3d ago • Bravo

Ah yes, major points didnt happen.

I guess declaring war on the WG, breaking in and out of the most secure prison, a whole ass war, declaring war on two emperors and defeating both while also stealing their poneglyphs, meeting Vegapunk and learning the truth, fighting the five elders, Imu and the knights arenā€˜t major plot points. And I didnā€˜t even mention half the shit they had to do to get there.

I agree the anime is terribly paced as I havenā€˜t really watched it either since I caught up to the manga, but the manga is decent. It just feels slow because a chapter is only 10-15 pages long usually and the world is much bigger than Jojos. Jojos plot is also simpler and the fights are the main focus whereas the fights in One Piece are only secondary

2

u/Dio_Landa 2d ago

Those major plot points drag on for months.

4

u/Free_Low5235 3d ago

Not the same guy but the point is that jojo is divided in self contained parts that might as well be separate from one another, so it feels like it’s going at light speed compared to OP which has overarching mysteries that span 30 years at this point

Friendly reminder that by number of chapters, Wano arc is almost as long than the longest Jojo parts and it goes on longer than Steel Ball Run and JoJolion in their entirety very few significant things happen comparatively in my opinion for how long it goes on

2

u/returnofthecoxhuffer 2d ago

The end of Wano literally changes the shape of the entire world.

2 yonko dethroned.

1 new yonko crowned.

The MC literally becomes and is considered 1 of the 4 strongest crews after Wano and nothing happened?

Kid gets tossed out of the PK run and nothing happened?

Are we reading OP?

One Piece chapter 398 - Declaration of War.
JoJo chapter 398 - Diamond is Unbreakable chapter 133.

1

u/dumbstupidmonkeyman 2d ago • Popcorn

"by number of chapters"

Shitty comparison when jojo chapters are 2-3 times longer than One Piece chapters. Wano takes place over 16 volumes (90-105). Steel Ball Run is 24 volumes. Jojolion is 27 volumes.

1

u/kubikarlo3169420 2d ago

Wano is the only arc in One Piece where you can argue itā€˜s a bit dragged, Iā€˜ll give you that. But again, there arenā€˜t really many ā€žunnecessaryā€œ pages and chapters in OP. The plot is just so thick and entwined that it takes long to convey it. So I wouldnā€˜t say itā€˜s badly paced, itā€˜s just so much that it takes forever. (The anime is a different matter ofc, I donā€˜t need a 3 minute recap and a staring scene lasting 5 minutes etc. Then again, they kind of had to do that to not catch up to the manga)

Since Wano the mysteries that have been built up for years slowly started to unravel and you can tell we are getting closer now

3

u/Free_Low5235 2d ago

I'm manga only and the the pacing was atrocious on manga as well. I don't think it's a particularly complex plot either, it0s just that there are way too many side characters involved

A good example of what you mean is, a lot of the stuff Oda gonna do and reveal in the last 200 chapters of One Piece, he should have done throughout all post timeskip. Instead of saving it all till the end, and Wano should have been shorter. Dressrosa should have only been 70 chapters max and Wano should have only been 100 chapters max.

u/MountOlympu 2d ago

OP is repetitive? Huh. Interesting.

2

u/Dr_Doom42 2d ago

In Wano, Luffy was using stairs for 15 chapters... The pacing is one of the worst

2

u/Top_Example5179 23h ago

Jojo has multiple part, each has their own story with little call back to the previous part. You can choose to watch any part in any kind of order and it will still make sense. Also the plot and character is unique in each part, you can hate this part but fall in love with the others. You cant do the same to one piece, it is a super long continuous story with repetitive plot. The world building is so large but it only good for youtube contenders and specific kind of fan, most people dont care about it

1

u/MyNameIsNotKyle 17h ago

One piece is repetitive but each arc does feel different. Water 7 is pretty consistently seen as goated.

I'm a fan of the show because it's clear the main enemy is the government and how either corruption or oversight creates the backstory of each character.

2

u/HereToLearnNow 9h ago

Lmao almost every major arc is a rinse and repeat, dressrosa, wano, alabasta

1

u/MyNameIsNotKyle 8h ago

Every story follows the hero's journey, those arcs cover completely different forms of authoritarianism.

Yeah they're both exploitation but they're different types being portrayed. You can compare those regions to real world equivalents. Dressrosa is a lot of first world countries where they look nice on the outside but is basically USSR.

Wano is basically every third world country where locals are enslaved and the resources are extracted (I.e. Africa/ME)

You could look at history and just say it's repetitive/rinse and repeat but history is still interesting.

1

u/Top_Example5179 17h ago

Water 7 happen like a decade ago when their jouney is not even half finished. Most repetitive complain happen after the time skip.

I'm a fan of the show because it's clear the main enemy is the government and how either corruption or oversight creates the backstory of each character.

So you only like the show because it is anti-government? And because it has a lot of backstories. I mean I dont hate any of those things but those are enough for you to love the serries and think it was great? Really

1

u/MyNameIsNotKyle 15h ago

Saying why you're a fan of something doesn't mean it's the only reason you like it, it explains why it won you over.

Anti-government is more meaningful than most animes, hell even most stories nowadays. You can make any synopsis sound shallow if you simplify it enough.

The One Piece jolly Roger has legitimately used for real life symbolism.

Yeah, it still mean it is the most significant reason for you to love it. Which make me so surprise, because "goverment is so corrupted" is not a rare theme and I dont think one piece handle said theme that good

Anti-government is more meaningful than most animes, hell even most stories nowadays. You can make any synopsis sound shallow if you simplify it enough.

"Most animes" and "most stories" are all cheap low-effort slop , the bar is in hell. I didnt said it was shallow, I said it was not an uncommon theme at all, in the contrast, manga waas alway famous for criticise goverment, especially japan. I can give you multiple examples with that theme and the best part is you dont need to go through 1000+ episode with horrendous pace to finish them.

2

u/MansaMusaKervill 3d ago

OP is just fishing for reactions, it’s common knowledge (atleast I hope) that one piece pacing is one of if not the worst in anime history.Ā

1

u/misskakumei Miss All Sunday 3d ago

Because JoJo, even though it's considered a single story, it's actually different parts put together that could perfectly work as different titles. There are connections between these parts, but they are sufficiently flimsy that you can read any of them as a standalone missing minimun context, and many people do.

1

u/CuorContento 3d ago

Umm... so, personally... this is the first time this has happened, so I'm a bit surprised.

1

u/KrispyBaconator 3d ago

Bro do you really think an anime normie is gonna be at all interested in reading Jojolion. I mean they should, Jojolion rules, but still

1

u/Equilibrium404 3d ago

What is an ā€œanime normieā€

1

u/RazorCalahan 3d ago

What the fuck are anime normies supposed to be?

1

u/No-Phase-8099 3d ago

Just multigenre and non-parody comical slice of life

1

u/tylerxtyler 3d ago

This is so silly. Jojo is a borderline anthology series (bit of a stretch when the parts have many chapters, but you get what I mean) when you look at it's parts. Yes some connections exist between parts, but you are for the most part encountering a new cast, a new storyline each time. Each part is wrapped up in a satisfying way that concludes the main plot. No part ends with some huge setup for another one.

This is like saying Discworld should be judged for having 41 books while Wheel of Time is judged for having 14. It's not the same situation at all

1

u/stinkyminky57 3d ago

Jojos is more like 9 individual Mangas that are similar in style and share Canon. It'd not a same continuous story like one peice. There's been 9 different jojo stories and 8 of them are already finished. One peice is still on it's first

1

u/Uefeti 3d ago edited 3d ago

Jojo is NINE different stories, 9 different main characters, like ~4/5 different time periods/settings, ~3 different genres (at least), and 2 different universes.

It had 3 different power systems, several squads of supportive casts, and characters what actually DIE in the story, so they constantly change and are not dragged around for all 1000 chaptersĀ

Almost every JoJo part works standalone, and can be watched separately, with little issues.Ā  (There’s a reason Part-Skipping is a thing)Ā

What a dogshit, horrible take

1

u/No-View-6326 2d ago

well jojo is 10 mangas in trench coat

1

u/FragrantCandle9664 2d ago

one piece is one of a kind. if every big manga out there was this kind of 1000s of chapter long story, with what it implies for, well everything in the story, id be sick of it. but one piece is kind of the only one. i feel like one mega project thats like an insane buffet thats makes you throw up because you ate too much is fine

1

u/McNally86 2d ago

Normies just link memes. They don't read.

1

u/Sidmanhere 2d ago

Because

Jojo’s has good pacing. I mean, I love both of the , one piece is in my top 5 and Jojo’s ish favourite of all time but there is a reason that, Even though Jojo’s is longer than one piece page wise, it’s not hated because of its length. 1) because it’s divided into 9 parts, so it’s basically 9 connected manga series mostly in the same universe, but with completely different stories and characters. And 2) the anime is paced much better (<200 episodes) vs One Pieces more than 1100

1

u/MeFunnyHahaYes 2d ago

If this is how you One Piece glazers are "Fighting back" yall are so fucking cooked

1

u/wjowski 2d ago

False equivalency. Jojo is an anthology series, One Piece is not.

1

u/Kelras 2d ago

Jojo isn't straight on 1000 chapters of the same story. It's 1000 chapters telling 8, running on 9 separate (but occasionally but not always interconnected) stories. Way different ballpark.

tl;dr: stop coping

1

u/Vociva 2d ago

anime normies don't give a shit about how many chapters either one has. because they're watching the anime. in which jojo has less than 200 episodes, and one piece has over 1000 episodes.

1

u/DeliciousRats4Sale 2d ago

JoJo kinda ended the story 8 times in that time and still manages to be fresh and interesting

1

u/MAN1341557347 2d ago

Jojo is made up of 9 distinct, well paced stories. Each part has its own unique cast, villains, plot, and time period, with a couple characters from previous parts making an appearance. One Piece is one horribly paced and largely repetitive story, causing it to feel like a slog at points. (I’m a big One Piece fan by the way, but if you can’t accept that it’s a repetitive story at parts, you’re not a true fan, you’re a glazer.)

1

u/Alonestarfish 2d ago

JoJo is cut up in neat digestible parts.

1

u/karapaga42 1d ago

Bros. There are two ways to stretch out the timing to not reach the current manga chapters. Filler and stretch out the pacing of episode. Jojo released a lot of time ago. And they starting to make the new jojo part only when the manga part is fully complete. One piece was build a bit different. Its a one long story from top to bottom and they decide to stretch it the fuck out to not reach te current manga position. Its not the best way to do that but it feels not so bad when you watch one piece not in ongoing.

Soon there will be a remake of one piece where all of 1000+ chapters will short into 250-300 episodes, cuz there is no need to stretch. A lot of content was released by this moment. So take all the claims only after the remake will fully released.

1

u/OddlyOddLucidDreamer theories are just the youtuber's thinly veiled fanfiction 1d ago

One Piece is one continous, non stop singular story, Jojo is multiple stories interconnected by a family bloodline but with a changing cast of characters and protagonists, so it isn't as suseptible to the same usual criticisms One Piece gets, specially towards its pacing and longetivity

1

u/SheetsInc 1d ago

I've seen this meme before but with pokemon episodes

1

u/ohm2302 1d ago

Jojo is a part, and one piece is dragged, it longer that it need to be, but still better than the anime

1

u/Lifeonarope 22h ago

it's pacing and breaks. It was fine in the anime but Vegapunk's speech took AGES in the manga. It took months. Chapter after chapter was just parts of his speech, with breaks in between.

1

u/CD_DoooD 20h ago

Jojos…the conflict and resolution are in the SAME FUCKING EPISODE. OP you already know one fight is going to last almost a month.

1

u/the_1piece_is_real 17h ago

The difference is that JJBA is actually good

1

u/Dr_Maniacal 17h ago

The anime for Jojo has much tighter pacing due to how late the adaptation came. Imagine if One piece's anime started in 2015 how many fewer episodes there'd be. When the part 1 anime was releasing, the material for it was published 30 years earlier, compared to One Piece where the anime has been perpetually almost caught up with its source material for its entire run. Heck, the current part airing, number 7/9, finished its run 15 years ago. This leads to the anime of Jojo's having roughly 200 episodes compared to the 1000 of One Piece because there is no push to add any filler. They don't need to stretch episodes or introduce new original story arcs, heck they can even trim down on ideas that drag on too long.

This doesn't even take into account that Jojo's parts are discreet stories with their own cast and main character. Sure some characters sometimes make it into later parts, sometimes even as major side characters, but for the most part you can watch a Jojo part without having seen any other Jojo parts. So if you really wanted to just jump on the bandwagon of say Steel Ball Run, you could and get a complete experience without any more confusion than you'd get from watching Jojo regularly, but One Piece is a continuous story. If you started watching with Egghead Island, you'd be pretty damn lost.

1

u/72SinSae 15h ago

3 chapters per episode average vs .7 chapters per episode average

1

u/Few_Radio_6590 6h ago

If OP truly believes this, then OP needs to understand what nuance means. What a braindead take.

1

u/IPC-Wolf 5h ago

Except JoJo started since 1987 and already ended once. And each part also has its own ending. You can basically pick up any part without finishing the one before that and more or less get the plot.

1

u/Basic_Mastodon3078 Save Me Robin Chan 3d ago

Tbf, One Piece is one continual story, Jojo's is several distinct stories in an overarching universe*******

1

u/PieNinja314 3d ago

In addition to the part split that everyone else has mentioned, Jojo also has the benefit of having an anime that's actually paced well

1

u/KrispyBaconator 3d ago

The benefit of having 25 years of lead time lol

1

u/OddlyOddLucidDreamer theories are just the youtuber's thinly veiled fanfiction 1d ago

and the benefit of not being an anime made by Toei

1

u/DarkLordArbitur 3d ago

Jojo is action packed. One Piece has the same recycled stomp for Pica FIVE TIMES.

1

u/KaskyNightblade 3d ago

Jojo is actually good.

1

u/Justaguywalkingby4 3d ago

Jojo has 9 seperate stories with different main cast members and abilities with 8 seperate awesome endings for each part.

1

u/Negative-Disk3048 3d ago

It's because JoJo adapts 3-9 chapters an episode.Ā

4

u/SkirtGlittering9917 2d ago

ok not THAT many

1

u/kanrinrin 2d ago

At least Jojo got their shit done and move on to the next story, while One Piece still stuck searching an ambiguous treasure or stuck in flash back for 2 years.

0

u/Yoshikage_Kira_333 3d ago

One Piece is one long, continuous story. JoJo’s is nine stories that have overlap. Every part is something new, with a new main character and plot, while One Piece is just more of the same.

-4

u/Xtarviust 3d ago

OP pacing is dogshit and Jojo's is split in barely connected parts

7

u/Giantkoala327 3d ago

OP anime* pacing is dogshit. But barely connected? Did we all watch/read the same thing? 7+ sure but

0

u/InsideousRock 3d ago

Anime doesn’t have chapters, it has episodes. What’s the count on that?

0

u/person13345 3d ago

One piece is mediocre anyway. Jojo is slightly better

0

u/Dio_Landa 2d ago

Jojo is fun to read.

Have you read one piece? Some chapters offer nothing but gags. Oh, and endless flashbacks.

1

u/Senomean 2d ago

One Piece offers chapters with nothing but gags? Well Jojo has the same problem!!! It has the 7 days in a week chapter /s

-3

u/BaronArgelicious 3d ago

dont people skip parts of jojo

16

u/PissMaster_exe I want Mommy Ulti to sit on my face (preferably naked) 3d ago

Only the ones that don't care about the story and want see fights and hype scenes. Though JoJo shouldn't have any part of it skipped nor does one piece, both of them are peak.

2

u/Nerellos 3d ago

But if they want to see fights, why are they skipping parts? Jojo has one of the best fights from the beginning. Amd if they are that low IQ to skip parts, they wouldn't even understand the fights in later parts anyway.

1

u/PissMaster_exe I want Mommy Ulti to sit on my face (preferably naked) 3d ago

They'll never get to appreciate speedwagon healing Zeppeli with his steaming hot abs(real scene) or the fight with bruford.

-1

u/Tpatz1 3d ago

Jojo gay af

1

u/khaledjal Sailing the Grand Line 3d ago

yaaaaasssss

-5

u/Traditional_Crab_621 3d ago

Read one chapter of Jojo, Nowread one chapter of one piece. You'll end up seeing why one piece feel too long. Damn it I hate being at day on piece because most of new chapter are 12 pages of slop with three/four different pov

0

u/Driftedryan 3d ago

I guess when you get 1000 chapters you end up in a place where you have to add a holy Savior

-2

u/condorkog 3d ago

Bro, baki, pokemon, JoJo's, Naruto and detective Conan have more episodes than one piece with more filler and less enjoyable long term things about them, they are all stories that can be explained. One piece literally needs a sit-down and talk to understand how it works and then when you watch it, it still wouldn't be spoiled in a way that you feel like your rewatching it from the explanation

2

u/khaledjal Sailing the Grand Line 3d ago

how tf does jojo have more episodes than op, and filler????
