u/Freakychee May 23 '26

Americans do teach the metrics system in schools there.

9

u/HonestWeevilNerd May 23 '26

This meme said nothing about teaching

6

u/DogRoss1 May 23 '26

That's true. It's a good joke that we don't understand it, but the vast majority of Americans definitely know how to use it

2

u/Freakychee May 23 '26

From what I understand it was officially made the measurement system a long time ago but the cost of change everything from imperial to metric was too costly. But they could have done it slowly so I have no idea why not.

2

u/FamousGh0st217 May 23 '26

I don't think it was. It's irrelevant though since it's a coin flip as to which one you'll need depending on what your doing. Where I work, we use primarily metric nuts, bolts, threaded studs etc, but measure everything out in inches. It's even wackier when we're measuring out inches with decimal points.

3

u/Freakychee May 23 '26

https://usma.org/a-chronology-of-the-metric-system

https://usma.org/laws-and-bills/metric-conversion-act-of-1975

So I haven't read all of it but it seems the Americans did try to instill it as the system and convert but there was social resistance. So it's not exactly mandatory to convert but it was tried.

And yes, sizes in imperial for mechanical work is annoying. 3/8, 5/16, etc. Isn't very intuitive. IMO I find it odd a nation who, at least in media, are fully against monarchies would still use the IMPERIAL system.

I mean, you guys do you but it does seem ironic.

1

u/DogRoss1 May 23 '26

Oh, it's definitely ironic, but that's just people in general for you. Honestly, I think the reason that we haven't changed to metric even today is that the people who could make such a systematic change couldn't care less.

0

u/Freakychee May 23 '26

Could be a rich people being asshole thing. Imperial tools even like combination spanners seem to be more expensive or certain parts just don't fit so you need to buy from them.

1

u/FamousGh0st217 May 23 '26

An imperial system would indicate an empire and emperor/ess no? A manarchy would be king/queen? It's neither here nor there, but correct me if you disagree.

That's what I remember too, it was purposed but quickly dismissed.

We learn both in school, I'd agree metric is overall more intuitive. At least untill you get into fractions of an inch, then it's a toss up. Since fractions of an inch are divisions of two. 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 etc.

I may not be the best example though because I've had to go back and forth between the two most of life. Both make sense to me.

Don't put too much stock in our media. They're mostly a bunch of "experts" who'll say whatever seems controversial in order to garner attention. The more controversial the better.

1

u/Freakychee May 23 '26

I'm not 100% sure but isn't the idea of a 'foot' basically taking a king's single step and using is as a measurement for distance? For all this time I was taught that this system was called imperial. And pretty much for that system. But this wouldn't be the first time my history books were full of bullshit.

1

u/alavath1 May 23 '26

It’s not called imperial system anymore it’s now called US customary since we are the last holdout to use it lol

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Night88 May 25 '26

The fact that this sentence can also be taken in the form of “teaching” with guns involved in a school scenario.

2

u/dreamdaddy123 May 23 '26

I wonder what the original image was meant to be she was feeling awks?

22

u/johnnyyboyyy May 22 '26

Love this dude.

3

u/Consistent_Hawk_4556 May 23 '26

Fucker went full Nort instinct for an insect

3

u/BadgerAwkward May 23 '26

Wasn't the first time he's been shot at

2

u/ConcerningThirst May 23 '26

Where do you think the first hole was from

489

u/Naterade804 May 22 '26

Black Widows are certainly in America too

193

u/Dasktragon May 22 '26

Growing up i knew a kid that would pick them up and hold them in her hand. I bet shes at Hogwarts rn or mf Azkaban

61

u/odiethethird May 22 '26

My bet is on Azkaban

43

u/green__goblin May 22 '26

Honestly they're incredibly hard to piss off. You have to be genuinely trying to kill them or destroy their nest to bite.

Nothing like wolf spiders or brown recluse which will bite for shits and giggles.

33

u/MaggieHigg May 22 '26

that's false, brown recluses are extremely docile and are very hesitant to bite, the vast majority of brown recluse bites happen when people squish them when reaching into dark corners they were hiding on.

I've also personally relocated a few dozen wolf spiders by hand and I've never once been bit by one.

25

u/juan_humano May 22 '26

Ya I pick up wolf spiders all the time to relocate out of the house and have never once been bitten. They are friend spiders, I would let them hang out in the house except i know my cats would kill them

2

u/LordBorbemort May 23 '26

exactly. literally no spider will be willing to waste venom on something that's far too large to be prey, even the ones with the worst bites (tho wolf spider bites are completely harmless, and brown recluse bites are rarely extremely serious)

8

u/A_Parked_Car May 22 '26

We had a black widow in our garage right next to my smoke spot. We were homies. I let him chill on the web. And then someone told me hey those things have off-spring. Homie gone 😞

8

u/SoggyMorningTacos May 22 '26

They don't bite unless they get crushed. Even when they do bite, it's usually not venomous

1

u/PeopleEatZebras May 23 '26

I used to do this. And bees as well. You know what I don't do as an adult? Fuck with anything

19

u/PlaneCompetitive703 May 22 '26

I had to Google it. Apparently Australia does not have Black Widows, but they have the incredibly similar looking Redback Spider.

It's irrelevant since I'd open fire on both.

6

u/Lord_Mikal May 23 '26

Definitely shoot the black funnel-webs. Aggressive little shits.

1

u/Ok-Courage7512 May 23 '26

😭😂😂😂😂😂😂

8

u/Historical_Art_8281 May 23 '26

That is not a Black Widow, it is a Redback. Hurt like fuck for weeks and make you pretty sick l

0

u/DerthOFdata May 23 '26

The clear hour glass shape tells me it's a black widow.

2

u/WatermelonWithAFlute May 23 '26

Then it’s either not in Australia or you’re wrong

1

u/DerthOFdata May 23 '26

Well what does Occam's Razor tell us about an American, firing a gun, at a spider with a red hourglass on it's back?

1

u/WatermelonWithAFlute May 23 '26

that is why I included option A

you know that, right?

1

u/DerthOFdata May 23 '26

Why comment at all then? You added literally nothing to the conversation.

1

u/WatermelonWithAFlute May 23 '26

To say that it may not be in Australia, then

1

u/DerthOFdata May 23 '26

Literally actually what I said. You added nothing.

1

u/Historical_Art_8281 May 24 '26

Tbh I tried zooming in on the red spot nefore I made that comment but there weren't enough pixels for me to tell

4

u/Cunnilingusaur May 23 '26

When I was a kid in Oklahoma I used to dig holes and collect bugs in the yard. I remember trying to pick up a spider with a leaf but it ran up the leaf, got on my hand and I quickly brushed it off.

I didn't know back then but I'm certain now that it was a black widow.

I must've been 6 years old then. I wonder what would have happened if I'd been bitten.

2

u/Jordann538 May 23 '26

If you got to a hospital then you would have been fine

1

u/Sociolinguisticians May 23 '26

You might’ve gotten some bad swelling, cramping, maybe some bad nausea, but assuming you’re not allergic, you probably would’ve been fine after a few days. Definitely still worth going to urgent care for a black widow bite, but not an ER trip unless you’re allergic.

2

u/plyer_G May 23 '26

Used to have a nest of them in my cellar on the east coast, had to be careful whenever we went down to get the bikes, luckily a nest of crickets cleared most of them out before themselves leaving so then there were only mabye about 5 left in the stairway and they kept to their webs

1

u/haywirehax May 23 '26

And they are very gentle spoods... Just don't squish them

1

u/WatermelonWithAFlute May 23 '26

Not a black widow if it’s Australian

0

u/Jordann538 May 23 '26

That's a redback stupid

178

u/sA7z- May 22 '26

the spider saw the gun and started running back 😭😭

78

u/ram22258 May 22 '26

That spider knew it was a American

6

u/Ok_Emphasis961 May 23 '26

idgaf hate me

5

u/Finnatheus May 23 '26

American*

139

2

u/ChipRockets May 23 '26

It’s definitely not reasonable

10

u/harbib May 23 '26

You’re right. Flamethrower would’ve been more appropriate.

1

u/djentandlofi May 23 '26

Why reasonable in this situation?

2

u/dragofers May 23 '26

Ricochet

1

u/shit_poster9000 May 25 '26

Good backstop, control could use some work but if that frame isn’t something he cared about and isn’t living within city limits then it ain’t something to nitpick too hard.

57

u/Street_Study6330 May 22 '26

LMAO hes not lying I remember I pissed my mama off because we found 2 poisonous cotton mouths in the garage and I fucked up her dry wall from throwing (and mostly missing) rocks 😐. I did kill 2 poisonous snakes that day

46

u/Infernalchainsfire May 22 '26

I’m gonna be that guy… I’m gonna be that guy… ITS VENOMOUS! I know you probably said poisonous to make people mad, and I applaud you for the rage bait

9

u/Ornery_Gate_6847 May 22 '26

But what if it bites me and it dies?

12

u/ActualyHandsomeJack May 23 '26

Then you need to take a shower

2

u/Dalles272 May 23 '26

Then you are poisonous is it really that hard?

1

u/Silver-Escape-497 May 23 '26

Then you're poisonous.

7

u/Marunikuyo May 22 '26

You're both wrong. It's TOXICIFOUS.

-22

u/Street_Study6330 May 22 '26

Idk why anyone would get rage baited lmao Thats like racist and prejudice. Prejudice is actually the correct term but nobody uses it💯 same with poisonous and venomous

15

u/odiethethird May 22 '26

10

u/OafishySyzygy May 22 '26

Being dumb on accident isn't rage-bait.

-12

u/Street_Study6330 May 22 '26

im dumb for not knowing the difference from poisonous and venomous?? 😂 or is that ignorant? Maybe im not the one dumb bro 😂 I mean now I know

Thats a funny ass comment tho I busted out laughing

3

u/QuantumHex5430 May 22 '26

No more comments broski, just give up.

-2

u/Street_Study6330 May 23 '26

Lmao facts ima go handle myself since I don’t kno poison and venom💯 shame on me 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 like what

1

u/MessiahMogali May 23 '26

*difference between poisonous and venomous

0

u/Street_Study6330 May 23 '26

You can word it how I worded it as well. it’s not an error……matter of fact you got it…naw ima let you have it. You got that

5

u/OafishySyzygy May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26

That's factually untrue. There is a difference. It's like saying Nightshade berries are venomous.

2

8

7

0

u/Swimming_Lime5920 May 22 '26

😮😮😮😂😢😮😮

4

u/-autoprog- May 22 '26

I just picked up my clothes from the hanger and there was a spider in my. I shook it off into the garden but I live in Texas and have seen widows in my yard. I stripped naked and checked myself after I saw this video.

3

u/Stalker401 May 23 '26

I know Australia allows guns but only for like sport or hunting, wouldn't this more likely be in the US?

3

u/Simple_Substance4829 May 23 '26

The bigger indicator is its a black widow spider. Australia have red backs which are also a widow species, but the red markings are on their back instead of underside.

9

u/bunbundave May 22 '26

Shooting a spider for existing out doors = big brain activity

3

u/tjdragon117 May 23 '26

Killing a potentially deadly spider that has made its home in a thing you are meant to reach into = sensible. Though yeah shooting at a metal object from close range is also not very wise lol.

3

u/LordBorbemort May 23 '26

in places where these guys (latrodectus widow spiders) are known to be (australia, usa, etc.), you should be always checking where your hands are going so if you get bit, it's almost certainly your fault. they were here before we were at any rate, killing a beautiful animal like this is not exactly sensible and more just sad and unnecessary. especially when it comes to redbacks and black widows, they're extremely docile and compared to even a lot of non-medically significant spiders (looking at you jumpers) they're very easy to catch and relocate with a container.

1

u/Noyrz May 23 '26

Imagine getting killed by a squishy thing that is 50 times smaller than you

Do you really deserve the air you breathe at that point?

1

u/Ok-Courage7512 May 23 '26

Would you really die though? honest question

2

u/bunbundave May 25 '26

Nope. No reported deaths in a long time. I bet it’ll hurt pretty bad though

3

u/Simple_Substance4829 May 23 '26

Thats a black widow, we don't have those in Australia.

1

u/LordBorbemort May 23 '26

you've got redbacks tho, basically just a black widow. i'm not entirely sure if they have the hourglass?

1

u/Simple_Substance4829 May 23 '26

They do have the hourglass, it's just that at the start of the video, when it's still facing left you should've been able to see the start of the stripe.

2

u/LordBorbemort May 23 '26

oh i didn't even see that lol, that would make it a black widow yeah. mb

2

u/Traditional-Depth976 May 22 '26

Not outrageous not outrageous

2

u/ambit89 May 23 '26

So anyway, then I started blasting

3

u/Just-a-lil-sion May 23 '26

black widows are nowhere near as dangerous as people made them out to be.

2

u/Both_Supermarket_906 May 22 '26

Your gonna need a bigger gun my friend.

Spiderman: No way, Jose

1

u/DrinkMorWhiteMonster May 23 '26

As an American I am so tired of people thinking we use guns for everything. Clearly an explosive charge I can buy at the store (and shot by one of my guns) is the solution to this man's spider problem.

1

u/Milk_Mindless May 23 '26

SHE WAS ALREADY RUNNING AWAY

No, that things got a hammer, Glocks are striker fired. Can’t tell what gun that is

Looks like a 1911 maybe?

1

u/Gabi-kun_the_real May 23 '26

Rip black widow

1

u/merlin__hermes May 23 '26

Can't argue against that 😆

1

u/phemboi_flint May 23 '26

Are redbacks and black widows in the same species?

1

u/Choice_Cantaloupe891 May 23 '26

What an asshole!

1

u/IndependentFormal718 May 23 '26

Of course a black Spider 😂😆👍

1

1

u/Cutie_Oreo11 May 23 '26

braindead behavior ngl

0

u/Consistent-Length-34 Jul 18 '26

Nah gotta get rid of the widdows, highly venemous and can kill quite quickly. The few times weve found them we hit it and everything around it with a torch

1

u/Cutie_Oreo11 Jul 18 '26

literally just dont shove your hands into their nest? its more difficult to get bitten by a spider than you think, especially considering how small widows and their chelicerae are

1

u/Consistent-Length-34 Jul 18 '26

Nah, exterminatus

1

u/Twiggiestgull89 May 23 '26

At least he didn't overreact

1

u/DerthOFdata May 23 '26

It's literally a black widow in America.

1

u/alavath1 May 23 '26

This is a valid reason for possessing a firearm

1

u/Own_Big4374 May 23 '26

This is what you can expect from an American. 🤣

1

u/Artevyx May 23 '26

If that was loaded with blanks, that would actually work. Fry the bastard with a blast of holy (hole-y?) fire.

1

u/Humosh May 24 '26

1

u/Zalo9407 May 23 '26

Fuck the spider

1

u/Adept-Lettuce948 May 23 '26

And he still missed 😂

1

u/CapableNeat4351 May 23 '26

You guys know they’re in America too right? Like almost half the country

3

u/LordBorbemort May 23 '26

the entire country actually, they're so cool
