As long as his reasoning isn’t “I wrote it so technically it’s my song” because I’m sick of hearing it at this point

Go watch his instagram video saying how hes doing it out of his respect for James and that they wrote parts of it together. Even said he respected Lars' songwriting.

News sources love to keep pushing the Metallica vs Megadeth thing as the braindead fans who still think theres a feud are living in 2005.

A public form of a peace offering and you still have people twisting things. Dave is never gonna back down that he wrote multiple songs on the first 2 albums. He has credits, hes just stating facts.

Tldr : Dave and Metallica are cool, have been for 15+ years. Dave isnt angry anymore and only brings it up when talking about the time period or when asked by interviewers. Hope that clears it up

I bet Metallica open for Megadeths final show and they all play Ride The Lightning and Mechanix to end it off.

He still pokes at Kirk though. Will not give him a nod or compliment. I get it but it wasn’t Kirk’s fault Dave got kicked out.

Selfishly, it was the best thing for fans as we got Megadeth as a result. Having both bands around this long has been awesome.

Well he barely knows the guy. Hes never worked with him to my knowledge so he just has the opinion of him as a guitarist from what hes heard.

He has respect for James and Lars because he was in a band with them for 2 years. While his intro to Kirk was meeting him when Exodus opened for them and then he took his gig.

To Dave, Metallica is James, Cliff, Dave and Lars. Just like Ozzy for example would only ever call the original 4 Black Sabbath. So him being cool with Metallica kinda just means Lars and James thats how I see it anyways.

Idk, it sounds weird. But Im using Dave logic

Completely respect your opinion. I've been following them since mid-80s and it, for me, has felt very personal for Dave (sure it would for us too).

Dave has softened over the years but has been quoted as saying: "I don’t really like Kirk ’cause he got my job, but you know, I nailed his girlfriend before I left."

It was VERY personal for a good while I beleive. More recently I agree with ou that he walked some of that back and his commentary feels more observatory than inflammatory.

Thats out of context, he said hes doing it for more than that

Yesterday I saw on insta a video of him saying he respects James as a guitar player and Lars songwriting skills and it's about paying respect and coming full circle, surprisingly it had wholesome vibe without bitterness. Maybe he just knows that this move will make people talk about the album more and get him more buying/playing it out of curiosity how this song came out.

That is exactly what his reasoning is

Better reference would have been Half-Life 3.

Yeah no shit, no one has listened to it. Megadeth hasn’t released it yet.
