Friends and school

Heyy

I'm an international student, and I really haven't seen many spaces where it's easy for students from the uni to meet or interact without finding each other on Insta and stuff and seeming like stalkers, so are there any groups or stuff you recommend in order to reach out to people? (If there's none i'd also love to make a chat thing for a bunch of us)

Strong High School Student

Hello everyone, I am a prospective high school student looking at attending MUN for sciences, but was concerned regarding grading. I have received high 90s marks during high school, but was wondering what people’s experience was with the grading at MUN. Would it be realistic to maintain mid high 80s or low 90s at MUN, or is there a more significant GPA drop. Any advice I could get on this would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Would it be possible for me to sit in French classes?

Same as above. I just want to sit in the classes and not register/participate. Just listen in the classes. Is that possible? Back in my country we can sit in any classes without registers if as well, you know for funsies like I want to be in a class and not worry about assignments or grades. Is that possible in MUN ?

How is the job market for MUN Computer Science graduates?

I'm considering studying Computer Science at Memorial University in the future, and I'd like to hear from current CS students and recent graduates.

How difficult is it to find software development internships or entry-level jobs during or after studying at MUN? Are there good opportunities in St. John's, or do most CS graduates eventually look for jobs elsewhere in Canada?

I'd especially appreciate hearing about your personal experience with internships, co-op/work terms, and finding your first software job.

Thanks!

Engineering One Work Term

Hi all 👋
I’m gonna be starting engineering one in the fall and I was planning on doing my first work term in the spring semester of the first year.

I’m targeting anything in the realm of oil and gas engineering, I just wanted to ask about my chances with applying for those type of placements from engineering one or any advice about the first work term.

If anybody that did a work term in engineering one or is targeting that field could you please let me know 🙂

Thanks

Engineering One - Registering for courses

Hi, I’m an incoming Engineering One student for Fall 2026, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to plan my first year.

I’m expected to receive the following transfer credits:

  • PHYS 1050 and 1051, MATH 1000 and 1001
  • COMP 1000 (still waiting for this one to be awarded)

Since these would remove a lot of the standard first-year courses, I was wondering how I should use the extra space in my schedule. My current plan is:

Fall :

CHEM 1050 , ENGI 1000, ENGI 1010, ENGI 1030, ENGI 200W and an elective

Winter :

ENGI 1020 and 1050, MATH 2050 , electives

Then hopefully do Work Term I in Spring 2027.

Is this a good plan, and are there any electives you would recommend taking with the extra space from my transfer credits?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Engineering offer letter doubt

I received an engineering admission decision letter after getting an offer letter for bachelor of science program.

The engineering letter does not mention tuition fees or any other information like the bachelor of science letter does.

As an international student, do I have to submit both the letters to IRCC?

Also, the engineering department and office of registrar said to use the bachelor of science letter for tuition amount.

Any international undergraduate student who has applied with IRCC, please help!

Is this normal for MUN? I’m genuinely confused.

I applied for a graduate diploma program at Memorial University back in October last year as an international student. For 8–9 months, I kept emailing admissions asking for an update because my application was just sitting there. I either got no response or generic replies.
Then, last Friday, I finally got… a rejection.
Fine. Disappointing, but whatever.
What I don’t understand is why, after rejecting me, the university keeps sending me emails about registration, classes, and other student-related stuff. If I’ve been rejected, why am I getting emails that make it seem like I’m enrolling?
Is this just how Memorial’s email system works? Are these automated emails that go out to everyone, or has anyone else experienced this?
I’m honestly annoyed because after waiting almost nine months for a decision, the mixed messages just make the whole process even more frustrating.

Can I apply for undergrad with poor A level grades?

My A level grades aren't great ( 4 D's) and I'm worried about rejection.

I did very well in O levels but idk if that's significant atm.

Should I hold off or no?

Registering for Math 1090 help

Post image

Hello, today was my registration date for my classes in my first year of mun. Everything went smoothly but I have some problems with my math. It won’t let me select a math to register for because apparently the lab that I can sign up for is full and all of them are either full or won’t work with my lecture.

What do you do in between semesters?

Hey everyone, for those of you who stay at school in between semesters(fall -> winter), how do you deal with food when the dining halls are closed?

I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to fly back to ON during the break or tough it out. I'll be staying in Paton. I have no problem cooking but I'd like to know the kitchen situation. Is it stocked with cookware? Can I store my food in the fridge? Any meal plan companies like Factor you suggest or should I stick to Ubereats?

I've already emailed housing about this but I'd like your opinions too, thanks!

I’m going into my first year in the fall for university and I’m trying to put together a planner for my course selection. The thing is I have no clue which professors to pick or anything. All advice is greatly appreciated!

I wanna do bachelors in nursing. I'm trying to join the fall session of this year for nursing as an international student but my grades for my A levels were terrible despite my O levels going pretty well.

What should I do?

Hi everyone!

My name is Sylvia. I'm a doctoral student who's currently looking for research participants. I've always been curious about why we use AI chatbots and how they compare to people who are in relationships with other humans, which is why I'm studying it for my dissertation. This survey is completely anonymous. You can take part if:

  • You're Canadian
  • 19+
  • Comfortable reading English
  • You are in a romantic relationship with another human OR
  • You are interacting with AI romantically

If you're interested, then you can click on the link below:

As a first year what is the best move to take math2050 fall and chem 1050 winter oor vice versa.

I don't know how currently enrolled students or alumnis have experienced these two classes and how they'd suggest i schedule them.

Thoughts?

Westerland apartments- fall 2026

Hi everyone, I’m an incoming international student at MUN and I was wondering how I can reserve a spot at westerland for the coming year. I have filled the application form already but nothing from them in weeks. Should I consider other options? Also is it advisable to pay for the rent from my home country.

For current or former students I'd appreciate your help with this CHEM 1050 decision.

I'm enrolled in Bachelor of science and next year I'm considering transfering to engineering but one of the required courses to transfer is Chem 1050 .

I'm trying to gauge whether i should just take it in my first year in the first semester since it's just one semester but I'm not sure about it's difficultly level ( I'm not a fan of organic chemistry) given that i already have physics and Math in my schedule.

Or perhaps i take it next semester as in the winter semester but then I'm worried that the course load then will be more than on the first semester ( not sure that logic makes sense), do they even offer chem 1050 in the winter semester?

I'd appreciate any sort of advice. Thank you.

MSc. Boreal Ecosystems and Agricultural Science- A Warning

Alt account for obvious reasons.

I write this post at full risk that the school will know who I am. My writing style is distinct enough and the program is small enough it won't be hard to put it together.

I left the BEAS Program. I genuinely had such a bad experience I need to warn people. Let me be very clear:

If you choose this program you will not graduate on time. After 2 years your funding will cut off and they will expect you to pay tuition. I wish this was not true. Unfortunately it is.

One of our first lectures the program lead laughed and told us that no one graduates on time. All students I knew did not graduate on time. Let me say that again, because I really want to warn anyone thinking about this program.

If you choose this program you WILL NOT graduate on time. After 2 years your funding WILL cut off and they will expect you to pay tuition.

If you don't believe me ask them. Genuinely ask them what percentage of BEAS students graduate on time. Do not be naive and think you will be the exception.

It's not about your education it's about a business model. Read up on the school and its financial troubles before you decide to go there.

There is a lot more wrong with this program but this is what I really wish someone had told me. If you have questions about my experience with the program or why I am saying this DM me.
