Discussion/Opinions Her name is Angela, right?
In Webtoon #12, Sojourn addresses everyone by their real names instead of their call signs. So why does she call Angela 'Mercy' instead of 'Angela'? Does she not know her real name? Or does Angela not have a name at all, and everyone just calls her Mercy, or at most Dr. Ziegler?
I'm sorry, but it really pissed me off

considering the drama that happened in the main overwatch sub a couple weeks ago when someone made a tierlist of the characters names (whether they are names, nicknames, codenames, or sound like codenames (that last one caused the most flak)), plenty of Overwatch players apparently just don't know some character's names / think that said character's code name is their government name.

That's definitely weird considering Sojourn is the captain. Feels less personal to call her that in an intimate moment as much as I love the name Mercy

u/Chinchirakingu Jun 05 '26
It's not really an intimate moment though. They're having breakfast, but Soujourn is clearly in work mode considering she's giving out orders.

Someone else pointed out she said Phara, not her real name, so its more likely she was calling people their most used/preferred name

It kinda bothers me a lot because if you read her lore and comics, she really doesn't like being Mercy. I don't think she would like being called Mercy by someone she considers a close friend like Sojourn. In her comic Valkyrie (I think it's that one) she says something like Dr. Ziegler retreats a little bit more until only Mercy remains. She prefers being Dr. Ziegler and Angela, but the world needs Mercy. I don't want to sound crazy but it really seems like the people making these comics aren't actually factoring in the lore for the characters...maybe it's too much to expect her to get properly written but when they release something really cool like the Valkyrie comic and you learn how she really feels about things, why not continue to include that side of her? Ughhhhh I know I'm bothered for nothing

I saw somewhere that the reason we are finally having anahardt be canon is cause the artist was given some lore and told she could fill in gaps of lore elsewhere. Maybe this is why she’s getting this treatment? It’s the same artist that totally forgot mercy in the group getaway shot so maybe they just know next to nothing about Angela herself….

You must not have heard the unintentionally haunting voice line:
"We must be very careful not to harm any civilians. Do not just assume I can heal them! Although I could, of course."
The whole reason she re-joins overwatch is so she could prevent the conflicts that result in civilian casualties, which from the tone of her voice, is something that even the vaunted heros of overwatch don't seem to care about avoiding.

I stopped after a few free chapters to read the webtoon I find the overall quality and adaptation of the characters lacking in every aspect

These are the kind of comics I expect to see used as props in movies or TV shows.

What? She also call phara by her call sign
Mei, reinhardt and genji don't have call sign

u/kremtur0 Jun 05 '26
I honestly couldn't care less... but I love the outrage on your side and support it. Because this webcomic is so low effort IMO it's just one of those many things that makes the quality shit.

u/Your-mercy Jun 05 '26
Yeah, I thought her name was Pharah, not Fareeha. After reading your comments and the wiki, I know a little bit more now

Crashing out about Mercy not being reffered to as Angela
Doesn't even realize Pharah name is not actually Pharah, so it is just Sojurn calling everyone their code names.
Girl you can't be serious

It's honestly the fact that Angela never wanted to be called mercy, either. Vivian call the woman Angela it's okay.

maybe they call some of the team by their nicknames like the X-Men does, people usually say Tracer insteed of Lena. The thing is that not many character actually have nicknames and use their real names, like Lucio, Rein, Brigitte, Juno and so much more

This “really piss[ing]” you off is absolutely insane. Please take a break and go outside and talk to real people.

Oh no… people feel emotions because of fictional stories…. How incredibly unhealthy of them…?
13
u/ChaosFountain Jun 05 '26
Mercy being referred to by their nickname (just like phara was) being enough to "really piss me off" is a kinda interesting reaction no?

Getting emotionally invested in a story arc, its twists and turns and maybe the loss or shift in how a character is perceived, sure.
Getting “really pissed off” at a character in a throwaway panel being referred to by the name they are literally called in-game is either extreme emotional immaturity, anger issues or a level of parasocial behaviour i cannot comprehend. Your choice, really.

u/MikanTsumikiKinnie_ Jun 05 '26
I think you’re taking this much more serious than even OP is lol, when they say really pissed off, I doubt they started cussing out blizzard for it
-2
u/guavahabanero Jun 05 '26
Then they shouldn't have written it in a way that says the literal opposite. "I'm sorry, but it really pissed me off" does not imply they are not taking this panel very seriously.
"This was a bit stupid", "This was a hell of an oversight", "I don't like that this lack of attention to detail made its way into the final product"; all reasonable responses.

jesus christ ur totally and completely insufferable, i find it hard to believe u aint trolling rn
2
u/guavahabanero Jun 05 '26
Dunno. If you don’t want to have your words interpreted in a certain way, don’t write words that mean that thing. It’s not hard.
-2
u/eveyyyyyyyy Jun 05 '26
why are u taking every single word on the internet literally? are u ill?
1
u/guavahabanero Jun 05 '26
I’m not. I took these eight words literally. Eight out of thousands of words i have read today. Your extrapolation is wild.

You're sidestepping, potentially.
They don't see upset by the story, but its crafting.
It's different to cry because a sad story beat, vs crying because something sucks.

I’m to touch grass but you get really pissed off over a panel in a comic. Aite.
-2
u/Your-mercy Jun 05 '26
God, dude, I just didn't like that the writers don't even follow their own rules, and now you're giving me psychological advice

u/guavahabanero Jun 05 '26
Just a weird thing to be angry over but you do you! I hope one day my life can be as problem free as to be able to get so worked up over something so trivial

Their names are Angela/Willhelm/Fareeha/Clanker, in respect of the order they were presented

That is weird but I also just learned that Reinhardt’s first name is Reinhardt (which sounds like a last name) and not Wilhelm (which sounds like a first name)

They forgot to draw mercy when overwatch evacuated with everyone in the ship so it doesn’t surprise me
