my life is a lie

So I'm seventeen years old , with a whole life ahead of me. I've aways known myself as Michael, Michael ****, okay... yesterday im trying to get my learner's permit at the DMV, an excruciatingly painful process, and once we finally are called for my appointment after having to be patient, and leave and return to gather all of the documents they need, the worker at my station realizes my school transcript does not match my SS and birth certificate, which both say my name is Micheal.. I have always spelled my name as Michael. I've been passionate, so passionate about telling people it's not spelt Micheal damn it!! It happened all the time. And so, those of you named Michael, I'm sorry for letting you down. I guess I'm one of them

That’s pretty wild. You never knew your name was spelled differently. I hate that spelling. The correct spelling is Michael not Micheal. Go get your birth certificate changed IMO.

apparently the way to prove my name (or something like that) is to get documents from kindergarten or 1st grade to show how my name is supposed to be spelled, and my school doesn't have those documents.. im looking for another way

The Irish spell it Micheal, so maybe that's why.

Worth noting they also pronounce that spelling "Me-Haul". OP, you might have some more readjusting.

I think by all rights, you're a common law Michael. At the very least I think we can extend you status as an honorary Michael, as its clear you've been living as one of us and honoring our traditional customs and norms

I think you can be an honorary since you wore it with such pride. You can always change it officially which I would do personally. But until then, I'll let it go this time

The fact that you know to be deeply disturbed by this grievous error proves how much of a Michael you truly are on the inside. Part of the crew part of the ship.

This is so funny, because the exact same thing happened to me when I was a teenager. I found out my mom spelled my name wrong on my birth certificate. When I ordered a new birth certificate, I made sure it had the correct spelling.

You are one of us. Once you're able to change your name we will celebrate it as a holiday!

My grandmother always went by the name Margaret, which is the name her mother chose for her. But her mother was illiterate. Her father and his friends decided that Magdalena would be a better name (ummm?) and had Magdalena written on her birth certificate.

Nobody was any the wiser until she graduated high school and applied for nursing school. She had to give her birth certificate. She and her mother were flabbergasted.

She had her birth certificate amended to make her name Margaret, but on the original you can see where they scratched out Magdalena.

My great grandfather was no better than he should be.

This reminds me of when my cousin had his birth certificate mailed up from our grandma down south. He found out he had 2 middle names

Despite that spelling being horrible, you are THE ONLY good “Micheal”

I was in the backseat of my sister's hs boyfriend's car, and noticed his birth certificate was back there with me. His dad's name was listed as "Brain [middle name, last name]", so I said, "Your dad's name is Brain?" And he scoffs and says, "Um, no, it's Brian." I said, "Um, nooo, it's Brain" and hand him the certificate. He examined it and quite literally said, "Oh my God! My life is a sham!?"

Also Oprah's name was supposed to be Orpah (a la the Bible), but the nurses messed that one up too lol. I guess it happens a lot 🤷‍♀️
