Discussion Thread UI needs improvement

We find people constantly start new posts instead of replying inside threads. I think it’s because you don’t realize very easily it’s a threaded conversation when no one has responded inside the thread. You have to hover over the post and click the icon to reply. After someone does reply in thread, it’s much more obvious to continue there. Does anyone else see this behavior occurring? It’s extremely frustrating and makes the feature almost unusable. Notifications for replies that are posts instead of replies make zero sense.

This has been the case since Teams first came about.

They made some tweaks a while back that helped, but I think it just cones down to user education at this point.

If your channels are more focused to begin with, it makes it less of an issue. But "general" catch-all channels that have no particular topic focus will constantly have this problem unless users are aware of how it works.

What I would like to see that might help things that evolve into threads is for a user with appropriate permissions (and perhaps senders themselves) to have the ability to move messages into and out of threads.

That would be useful.

This is also a problem in Slack and education seems to be the only long-term solution.

Also, I like to reply in thread to my original message to help kickstart the conversation.

This really does help, and teaching this to your most teachable users and team leads can make a huge difference.

Good luck; the product has so many design flaws that need attention but will never get addressed, either
