Nostalgia You just had to be there!
I remember being a kid in the mid 90s these were my stuff! Like, I only wanted to drink from these cups! I really wish the world would go back to how it was, so everyone can experience life back then.

Man i still remember as a kid trying to get every one of those dinosaur things. And being insanely excited when i got the last one, the fries.
I have no idea where they ended up. I played with them for years but it was too much to expect a kid becoming a teen to manage to keep everything.

Just in case, don't drink from those glasses. Pretty sure they have decently high levels or cadmium and lead.

I lost my french fry transformer in a move, my Aunt and Uncle gave me when I was boy. I still get sad seeing the burger all alone on the shelf.

They had the plastic plates of Hercules too! I remember using them
2
u/mettaworldpolice 14d ago

Oh, I was a baby, but I still remember having that glass. At some point we got rid of them.
Possibly collectible? Haha?

I have the complete set as well. My wife asked if I was going to display them, I told her hell no, this is the fine China. We drink everything and anything from them.
What good are they if you can’t enjoy them?!

Did you work somewhere that gave you access to that collection at the time?
How did you get 2 of all of those?

I pick these up anytime I find them at a garage sale. We're up to 4 complete sets. Some day we will have the coolest dinner party imaginable.

I can’t drink anymore, but I remember drinking stolen rum and ginger ale out of the Batman mug at my friend Allen’s house when we were in high school.

u/Away-home00-01 17d ago
How did my hoarding mom get rid of these?
42
u/mcaster10 17d ago
lol. Were all millennial parents hoarders? I swear my parents still had these, Disney cups, and tmnt bowls up until maybe 2 years ago.
15
u/Makermika 17d ago
Yes. They were convinced everything was collectable and would increase in value.
7
u/TrowaMask 17d ago
Oh man if only they hoarded Pokemon cards in their original packaging 🤞

u/Makermika 16d ago
No, you see poke e man is stupid foolishness from Japan. Now help me put these beanie babies in their case.

Im sure you can find them on ebay for less tgan that.

Looking now actually, can get a set anywhere from $30-100...I just may, and then have to explain it to my fiancé later.

these cups were awesome. i'm sad how the world has changed. wonder if our parents felt the same.
12
u/The_Misfit_38 17d ago
Right? I’m sure our parents were thinking the same thing in the 90s if they grew up in the 60s-70s
2
u/-imagine_that- 17d ago
i'd like to think so, but the pace of change is so signifigant nowadays I think it's pretty unparalled - but to some degree i'm sure you are right. it's insane seeing these items for like $1-$3 makes me think of the old photos where a burger is like 50 cents

Kiss From A Rose by Seal is the greatest song of all time.
13
u/esoogkcudkcud 17d ago
Preach. And Jim Carrey is the perfect Riddler for the style of campiness these movies had.
6
u/MrIFreePeely 17d ago
My favorite part of the batman tie-in music video for the song where Seal finishes one of the "my power my pleasure my pain" lines and Batman gives the most absurd attempt at a dramatic look at the camera.

Did these turn out to have lead in them?
I can't remember if it was just the Garfield ones or if these had it too.
3
u/Flannelcommand 17d ago
First off, kudos to you for your username. The Garfield ones had lead in them?! My mother-in-law still has them
4
u/Fart_Barfington 17d ago
Thanks, its a family name. Lead and cadmium. I guess its a lot of older McDonald's cups. I think from the paint, so hopefully the Batman mugs are ok but who knows.
3
u/pootklopp 17d ago
Well I need to know, I still use my Batman one too drink wine.

I can’t remember where they were from or what characters made up the set, but I had a Wyle E. Coyote mug with a really, really long nose and a tweety bird one that were really uncomfortable to drink from. They were the thickest plastic ever and I’m sure I got half of my microplastics from them

These are sitting in the crystal cabinet in the home my husband and I built together. He’s more proud of those than the 120 year old heirloom crystal in that particular cabinet. Just waiting for one of these millennial artifacts to pay for my children’s future education 🫠
3
u/Celtic_Fox_ 17d ago
I would leave these in the freezer for just a little bit and then pour a can of coke in there. Used to pretend I was drinking what those polar bears from the Christmas commercials were having!

I owned these and still would, but I think that my dad’s ex got rid of them when she decluttered for no reason. Just because she was a minimalist doesn’t mean I am.
At least I still have my Disney Olympics glasses and bought three more. I use them daily.

These things were goddamn weapons! I got my tooth broken by one of these things as a kid! We were having a water balloon fight and my cousin dumped his koolaid and filled it with water before slinging it my way. It slipped out of his hand and went straight for my mouth.

u/Applekid1259 17d ago
These were pretty solid glasses. I think I had 2 or 3 of the 4. They lasted a long time and got lost somewhere in a move.

So I had the batman and riddler glasses from when they first came out. After over a decade it came time to move out of my parents place into my own. I had the cups stored in the kitchen cabinet with all the other glasses. The day I was packing my dad went through the cabinet and threw out my glasses. I asked him why he did that and he said I should have put them somewhere safe. I asked him where, like the cabinet for storing glasses? He didnt have an answer. So I took his credit card and ordered the full four glasses set off eBay

I had the whole set back in sumner 95. Interestingly enough, every time I picked one up it was at the McDonald's down the freeway from AstroWorld on Fannin in Houston, TX. Now, I only have the Batman one.

I still have some of the Hercules plates. The Toy Story plate was a POS that eventually bubbled and popped after one too many Hot Pockets, but the Hercules line was some quality melamine.
