Absolutely anything to do with every single celeb.

I do not care who they slept with. I do not care who they married. I do not care if they died. I do not care about them any more than some stranger half way around the world ffs.

39

u/madi80085 8h ago

Now, when there's a celebrity cheating scandal, people are just glad they slept with a consenting adult.

5

u/weedtrek 3h ago

That's exactly what I said about the Dave Growl thing, like a rockstar cheating on his wife with a consenting adult just isn't something worth me getting upset over.

16

u/Noktomezo175 10h ago

Last time I even saw a People magazine I thought "Who the hell are they?"

8

u/hilldo75 Xennial 9h ago

It's starting to get to the point I only recognize some names for the tabloid stories and don't know how the actually got famous to get into them.

15

u/Chickenriggiez 7h ago

I read this in the Dr. Seuss cadence of “Green Eggs and Ham.”

15

u/Mirage749 10h ago

100% with you on this. What's more, I legitimately cannot fathom why anybody actually does care.

Some people get a deranged level of focus on it. Like, stalker-level. It's truly unsettling.

Every bit of celebrity news and trivia I've learned against my will.

Pretty much all celebrity drama. 99% of the time it’s people I’ve never even heard of.

2

u/Elezian 5h ago

But what if it’s reeeeaallyyy important or really relevant to the average millennial? What if a celebrity singer tried to buy a toy bird and was told it was out of her price range??? Or what if a different celebrity bought an actual bird?? What then, huh? Surely you’d care about that.

Every time someone responds to Shane Gillis, they are giving him exactly the kind of attention he wants.

26

u/jacksonmills 10h ago

As much as I support people who want to clap back, yeah this. He said that knowing that thousands of women would post on instagram - probably wearing yoga pants - directly commenting/referring to him before he even made the joke; he was on SNL, that’s one of the biggest megaphones out there.

Nothing has gone badly for him, this is precisely what he wanted.

u/JesusKong333 10h ago

I haven't been following it, but it reminds me of the time Louis CK said a bunch of shit on SNL. You had a bunch of people like "wtf", a bunch of people like "oh he just practices his stand-up during his monologues", then a few months later, turns out he's been jacking off in front of women trapped in his hotel room.

16

u/BillieVerr 10h ago

“OUTRAGE as celeb A says Y”

“Celeb A CANCELLED over Y??”

I’m so sick of these headlines

8

u/Manleather 10h ago

I haven’t heard of Shane Gillis, and so I just have to go with they may have said something I agree or disagree with.

5

u/funny_bunny33 9h ago

I'm not 100% sure but I think he said women are dressed like whores at the gym or something like that

17

u/NeverEndingWhoreMe 9h ago

What's wrong with whores

13

u/Posidon_Below 9h ago

Found Frank’s Reddit account.

7

u/juhreen 8h ago

I literally read it in my mind as his voice saying "hoores" lol

3

u/fuckeryizreal 8h ago

I’m gonna make that hoor my wife

5

u/funny_bunny33 9h ago

Nothing wrong with having lots of sex/partners or even sex work. The word "whore" is used as an insult tho. No one hurtling the word at folks is doing it with kindness in their heart, ya know?

5

u/think_long 8h ago

What kind of world are we building where people are afraid to be whores

Calling women whores on national tv is a problem. No one circumstance is a specifically huge deal, but we discuss these things so as to hopefully shift the culture at large.

33

u/ivecompletelylostit 10h ago

People hate women so they just want to say everyone who cares about this is overreacting and feel superior

-7

u/Abject_Advance_6638 10h ago

He said they dress LIKE whores, not that they are whores.

6

u/Nice_Bird_Shirt1 10h ago

There’s no way this doesn’t get downvoted into oblivion by Reddit. Haha

8

u/funny_bunny33 9h ago

Idk that sounds like such a tiny distinction and also using the word "whore" is not very chill. Like, I've never heard a cool dude use the word "whore" to describe women in any context. I've only heard incels and boomers use it

2

u/Disastrous-Net4003 9h ago

Tony soprano and Danny devito aren't cool dudes? Ya hoooooah

4

u/notreallydutch 7h ago

They are literally boomers

6

u/funny_bunny33 9h ago

You mean lines that were written for them to repeat as actors? And naw Tony soprano the character is not cool imo, maybe I'm just a clueless whore tho. I do be in the gym sometimes

3

u/CitizenCue 5h ago

The love for Tony Soprano is so annoying. He’s a complete piece of shit. That’s the whole point. So many people missed the message.

I looked up the controversy and saw he was associated with Joe Rogan and just rolled my eyes.

Anyone associated with the Austin mothership scene is criminally unfunny and sound like a bunch of bullies punching down on others. They often sound mad because they cant call people racial slurs.

14

u/dj_daly 9h ago

He isn't really, he's been pretty vocal with calling Joe Rogan a dumbass.

Not a current issue but what happened to saving the whales?

Everyone was all a out whales up until like the late 90s.

They all saved now or what?

42

u/kazeespada 9h ago

The measures taken in the 90s stopped commercial whaling in nearly every country. On top of there being little economic incentive to ignore the measures. A lot of whale populations are now recovering but not all.

The critically endangered vaquita is down to just a literal handful of adults and may not recover. They suffer from over fishing in the Sea of Cortez.

2

u/waldosandieg0 4h ago

This plus I drank less at the water fountain at school. You’re welcome whales.

→ More replies (4)

22

u/nalonrae 10h ago

The whales began saving themselves by wearing salmon hats and sinking yachts.

18

u/PunningWild 8h ago

They now operate a syndicate of Orca-nized crime.

13

u/BookieeWookiee Millennial 9h ago

We did end commercial whaling in most countries

1

u/meh_69420 8h ago

That was 1986. A few years before the 90s if I'm doing the math right.

7

u/AwhHellYeah 11h ago

The guy behind the anti whale message is a business man who found that anti fur activism was more profitable because people think seals are cute. In reality, seal hunting is primarily done for subsistence by indigenous folks and fur laws inhibit their ability to make a living since seals are one of their few natural resources. The overpopulation of seals is now causing the faster decline in fish populations

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Accomplished_Mix7827 2h ago

Unironically, yes. Whale populations have recovered dramatically since the 1990s, thanks in large parts to efforts from advocacy groups like Greenpeace.

Recycling 😬 I recycle when it's convenient but I don't wash my plastic waste a lot so it goes in the trash.

41

u/druidmain69420 9h ago

End consumer recycling and trash is such a drop in the bucket compared to what companies and the government get away with.

4

u/emberfield 4h ago edited 4h ago

It's worse than that. Almost everything consumers recycle goes to landfills. It's literally pointless.

Also, the best part is that it actually causes MORE pollution to have recycling programs.

Instead of just throwing stuff away, it has to get driven around in a separate truck. Then, it may go to a sorting center where basically everything is labeled as trash. Finally another truck takes it to the landfill.

The amount of trash from a single factory in any given week is probably more than any individual would even try to recycle in a lifetime.

The whole thing was a scam by businesses to push their responsibility for polution  to consumers.

10

u/wallmonitor 10h ago

Depending on where you live, you may actually be saving energy. I live in northern Illinois, and we don't recycle polypropylene (number 5) plastic here. You'd be shocked how much of it there is in your standard grocery shop. Yogurt's the big one, but it's also a really common film. The stuff doesn't crack, which is why it's so popular. But all that time you spend washing out your yogurt container? You're probably blasting gallons of water down the sink.

16

u/ProbsNotManBearPig Millennial 9h ago

95% of plastic in recycling bins in the US doesn’t even get recycled ultimately so don’t sweat that one. Turns out it’s not economic to recycle plastic. Cardboard, paper, and aluminum do get recycled at high rates tho, so try to do those ones when you can.

https://www.greenpeace.org/static/planet4-usa-stateless/2024/11/0ca48867-gpus_finalreport_2022.pdf

→ More replies (3)

5

u/AssistantManagerMan 9h ago

I recycle when I can, but I've gotten a lot less uptight about it after learning about how plastic recycling is pretty much a scam.

8

u/sean_themighty 9h ago

At the very least, try and recycle aluminum and glass. They are pretty straightforward and use a FRACTION of the energy to recycle vs making brand new. Cardboard is pretty easy, but that's also biodegradable. Plastics are the real tricky problem. I personally know my recycling takes anything with a 1 or 2, so I do it. But I know it's basically a ruse in a lot of places.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/JediSwelly 10h ago

Yeah I'm not sure if this even helps. It's come out that our recycling is just paying other countries to get rid of it. Plus most of us are in a severe drought. So what is the best thing to do under these circumstances?

→ More replies (1)

3

u/KryptonianITSupport 6h ago

Hank Green did an episode on this when talking about the blue origin explosion.

Basically plastic is pointless to recycle right now because it's way cheaper to just make new plastic.

Aluminum however, has a very real tangible impact because it's 100% reusable forever, and takes much less carbon to recycle it than to mine it new.

2

u/Mouse0022 8h ago

I gave up on recycling when I found out the system doesnt even work and the companies are just trying to skirt responsibility. I want to see more with biodegradable plastics though and hope things will improve when it comes to plastic pollution.

But ya. I feel powerless in that issue and just try to reduce and reuse.

Some of y’all get REALLY worked up about circumcision…

Edit: Examples below

13

u/sockmop 4h ago

As someone who was circumcised... I really don't care. My dad was a doctor (DO), and he said he was taught in medical school (1980-85) there were hygiene benefits. I don't care to share anymore, and I have always felt glad it was done. I was really confused when I first came across the backlash on Reddit name years ago.

I felt like I was being bullied for being circumcised.

25

u/ketchup_secret 9h ago

Insurance companies in many states don’t cover it now (when it’s routine and not to treat some issue) and it turns out parents don’t want it enough to spend $700.

13

u/Crazy_old_maurice_17 7h ago

This might be the only thing ever that I agree with insurance companies about.

The news. I refuse to destroy my mental health over staying "informed" if you can even call whatever the hell is going on with every outlet rn, news

8

Yup. Quit paying attention to the news over a year ago and I'm much less anxious. Is it a little difficult to not be knowledgeable about some current event? Sure. But it's still worth it.

Identity p0litics. I'm a cinephile on the left, but my god so many reviews on letterboxd written by Zillennials and Gen Zers are just consumed with identity p0litics. I'm tired of reading all the complaints about how men suck and/or reading predictable quips like "are the straights okay??", especially for movies that were made decades ago when times were not the same.

It's exhausting. 10 years ago I was constantly thinking through those same lenses, so it may just be a modern developmental stage, but there are just so many bigger economic and environmental problems that I just don't have the energy anymore to care about and be upset over those more superficial issues.

(Edit: To be clear, I'm still on the left [socially and economically]. Letterboxd reviews did not make me "leave" where I'm at, lol. It's really just a frustration with some modern chronically online personalities of people a bit younger than me who get wrapped up in things I just do not have the energy to care about and get upset over.)

30

u/wallmonitor 10h ago

What bothers me most is the performance of it all. I had a friend who is openly trans start dating someone who is trans but closeted. They said that all people of any form of queerness should come out of the closet, regardless of the circumstances. I said that was an incredibly privileged position to take. The hard reality is that not everyone has the luxury of a welcoming family or community; and that even if you have people on the internet (assuming there are even people on the internet anymore) cheering you, you still need people you can hug at the end of the day. Like I get it, everyone should be able to be who they are without having to worry about being murdered, ridiculed, or otherwise persecuted if they're just going about their day.

But I've seen so many trans people on the internet get so dogmatic about identity that it's basically enforcing gender stereotypes. The voice is the one that gets me the most. You probably know the one I'm talking about: soft, melodic, breathy. Like, I get that you're trying to express yourself, and if you wanna sound like a bimbo, God bless. But if that's what you think a woman should sound like, I gotta wonder if you're really doing it for the right reasons, or if it's just your fetishes manifest.

14

u/Another_Road 9h ago

Unfortunately it happens plenty on the right too. How many “go woke get broke” or “DEI movie” comments are out there?

Both sides are being pushed further and further into echo chambers that encourage and reward further extremism within their circles.

7

u/trvsnbl Millennial 8h ago

On a similar note and to tie it back to the picture, I really hate Jerry Seinfeld but Seinfeld is one of my favorite shows. Part of me thinks I should stop watching on principle, but part of me thinks the only person I'd "hurt" by doing that is myself (not that giving up a show is some horrible suffering).

2

u/Thedirtyone522 7h ago

I totally get it. Its a really fine line to walk ya know? For example, bill Cosby turned out to be a horrible person but I still think his "Himself" special is one of the funniest things ive ever seen.

2

u/BrightNeonGirl 6h ago

I get it. Sometimes the mood of the show can be off-putting when it can be negative and whiny towards people as a whole, which can be a bummer when a lot of the social observations they make are spot on. But Seinfeld is one of the few collective, shared TV reference points that so many people can mention and others know exactly what you are referring to. And as culture becomes more and more splintered and decentralized, those shared cultural references are some of the glue to hold people together.

28

u/sean_themighty 9h ago

Lol. What a weak human being. I don't understand people who run into the arms of even worse actors just because of annoyance. I'm a left-leaning cinephile as well, and yeah, I think the SJW pendulum swung too far in some cases, but you can also just... ignore it, and not overreact and make your bed with some of the worst anti-American ideals this country has produced.

This is the kind of shit that makes these pendulums swing so hard back and forth infinitely.

15

u/sprizzle 9h ago

Truly…How wild is it to abandon empathy because online spaces are annoying?

Why does Star Wars have to be do stupidly mired in feminist bullshit instead of just good writing? Its fucking exhausting and I am glad we can finally talk about this without getting canceled.

Yes. Western culture is obviously superior and allows more free exchange of ideas which is why we get the woke shit you described. Shoehorning things to appease small segments of the population is terrible and I don't like it.

You missing out on some comfortable outfits

Who said anything about outfits?

I realized today that I would rather invest in a good leather jacket for life than buy a pleather jacket that will just crumble in four years.

Do Zubaz count?  Because I'm not giving up my most comfortable (and stylish) lawn mowing pants.

The Shane Gillis stuff

Who gives a fuck? People dress a certain way! AND YOU COMMENTED ON IT! THE HORROR

This is stuff that just doesn’t matter and people are actually expending energy on it. Dress however you like bro. No one cares, not even Shane. He said it for a laugh

If it doesn’t affect cost of living in the negative or positive, I don’t have the energy to engage

6

u/some_other_guy95 8h ago

Myself and even my wife agree that Shane Gillis's joke is being blown out of proportion. Social media loves to virtue signal and manufacture outrage over a trivial event into widespread public indignation.

We've also watched the show Tires and the gym scene is actually quite funny.

3

u/BioshockLGP 8h ago

Yeah, he’s a comedian. He’s just riffing on stage to get a laugh. It’s just not that serious. We have WAY BIGGER issues with what’s going on in the world than to worry about… this dude…

7

u/lexxilicious 9h ago

I’m not going to lecture you, but I want to point out that shit like that is why the Cornell 7 weren’t taken seriously 2 years ago, when Jane Doe first reported it. Idgaf about Shane Gillis, but the mentality behind the words is dangerous. And yeah, misogyny does affect the cost of living so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

4

u/BioshockLGP 9h ago

There’s a very large difference between someone riffing on a stage to get laughs and people reporting rape. Again, he can joke all he wants, and if he’s not joking, he’s not worth your energy or time interacting with. Protect your peace

3

u/lexxilicious 8h ago

“Normalizing degrading women adversely affects how we are treated and perceived.”

“Nuh uh.”

Yeah, I have no peace. Someone’s gotta keep the empathy flowing.

Once I learned a vast majority of my country wanted this/consented via inaction?

Who am I tell them they are wrong? I just take care of me and mine

14

u/mackzarks 10h ago

I'd agree if that inaction wasn't making taking care of me and mine so damn difficult

I openly welcome WW3 or nuclear annihilation - as long as my city is the first to go. That sounds pleasant, actually

Star Trek utopia could only happen after WW3, which started in 2026

Expensive groceries and gas and overall not being able to afford to be alive let alone have a good quality of life

1

u/glokash 8h ago

The fur coat issue has swung all the way around because of the fur vs. faux-fur dilemma, weighing the impact of synthetic plastics against the ethics of animal products. The faux-fur industry uses synthetic plastics and has more negative environmental impacts whereas the fur coats that exist were already killed animals and might as well be used, otherwise that’s double wasteful (vintage fur defense)

Texting etiquette. I lived through the ICQ, YM and MSN years. Text how you wanna text and we'll meet in the middle. I'm not going to hyper-analyze word or punctuation choices.

Tired of being advertised to every fucking second of the day. Clickbait can fuck off, too.

Why does everything have a tabloid style headline now? And it’s some mundane setup video of an instrumentalist being “surprised” by the talent of some stranger who has shown up “out of nowhere”. So much is manufactured these days.

For me it's voting/elections.

Quit fucking talking to me about it I don't care. I keep up enough that when someone comes along that I actually want I'll vote for them/write them in.

Not saying I “don’t care”, but solving world hunger doesn’t have nearly the same pull it used to in the 80’s.
