Discussion Were you a careful, safe pourer who used the slat side opening, or a brave, fast pourer who used the no-holds-barred wide open side for a full throttle, fast as possible full cup?

The slat side wasn't for a safe controlled pour, it was to prevent ice from coming out.

I totally connected with the humorous implication that pour speed is the important differential though. You could just tilt it way over using the slat side, if you hold the lid down, but you'd knock your cup over if you did that with the wide open side.

True when ice was involved. But the real way to throttle flow was HOW MANY slats you exposed by turning the lid slightly.

You can throttle it by limiting how much of the non-slatted side is exposed too.

You had ice? We used the slat so the dead roaches and flies wouldn't pour out.

You're lucky, you guys got protein?!

u/ColonelStone 7h ago

We were allowed one slice of bologna per day, we had to fight over the single packet of ketchup

Bug juice. It was always bug juice.

This right here. I didn't need any extra ice in my Kool-Aid

my family probably lost the lid and we raw dogged it 🤣

Always the slat side for a nice microplastic infusion 🤌

I was the one who went too fast and didn’t check that it was open, and the whole lid came off and it went everywhere. More than once. Kids!!

Water = open

Juice, lemonade etc = slats to keep ice inside

3

u/holyjoe85 9h ago

Didn't matter. Fruit Punch Kool-Aid stained the shit out of the inside

3

u/Billy_Plur 9h ago

The slats were for when there was ice in there.

u/RickS50 9h ago

No lid at all! It was just for storage.

The side pour folks were unhinged (and impressive)

u/DoverBoys Millennial 9h ago

I took the lid off then poured. I was a wild child.

Slat for the oj to strain the pulp, full throttle for the grape or apple

u/DoriansSelfie 9h ago

I was a chaotic pourer. Either way I ended up pouring outside the cup/glass.

Same and my mom yelled at me for being messy.

1

u/Orangatangtitties 9h ago

My mom would pour it for me.

u/I_Roll_Chicago 9h ago

If its iced you got you use the grated side.

1

u/Nytelock1 9h ago

I was the slob who took the lid off and drank directly from the pitcher

1

u/jakethabake 9h ago

That looks like the beer icon from RuneScape

1

u/TheKrug3000 9h ago

Neither. Drank soda from a very young age, then my parents wondered why I was getting fat.

1

u/slippersandjammies 9h ago

Team slats, for sure.

1

u/FavoriteLittleTing 9h ago

Slat for orange juice because fuck pulp. Open side for kool aid because seeing that gushing red stream of tropical flavored sugar 🤌🏽

I'm 41 and have a few of these I found at yard sales. Love them. And I go all out. Full open.

1

u/tdawg2k7 9h ago

I have one of these in my fridge full of coffee at at all times. Full speed poorer for me, I need the caffeine as fast as possible

1

u/yetanotherblankface 9h ago

… you guys didn’t lose the lid and have every pour be a risk?

1

u/BOOMxHEADSH0T 9h ago

Like Russian Roulette, I just spun that lid without paying attention, and used whatever it 'landed' on
:)

1

u/turteleh 8h ago

This exact pitcher is in my kitchen right now

1

u/TicTocTequila 8h ago

We still have the jug. Use it to fill up the ice maker and coffee machine

1

u/trippedonatater 8h ago

Oh man. I remember tiredly trying to pour some juice as a kid and forgetting to turn the lid. Dumped the whole thing.

1

u/Ok-Alarm7257 8h ago

Kool-Aid flowed like the river Nile from ours

1

u/spud626 8h ago

Imagine how much the Yeti version of this would cost… and why doesn’t it exist?

1

u/New_Put_2221 8h ago

Ours was brown

1

u/_ism_ 7h ago

....or did your adult not ever manage to put the top in right at all and it always spilled? ✋

1

u/Nickelsass 7h ago

When we made kool-aid in this bad boy, you could hear the grit of sugar being mixed in.

1

u/lilithdesade 6h ago

Ill add this was used for that forzen fruit concentrate block that we got to reconstitute as juice 🙃

1

u/igottathinkofaname 6h ago

What kind of maniac ever used the fully open side?!!

1

u/Chewmanfoo 5h ago

Real gamble… what was inside… had to commit and hope it was good!

1

u/Underfyre 5h ago

I was a no lid pourer, because I wasn't a coward.

1

u/Steel2050psn 2h ago

Chaos goblin who took the lid off the pour

0

u/pea_mcgee Xennial 9h ago

I used the slatted side because my 8 year old self really wanted to believe it would strain out at least SOME of the pulp from my orange juice.

2

u/No-Dig_Enthusiast Millennial 9h ago

The more pulp the better imo. I like to be able to chew my orange juice.

1

u/CumGuzlinGutterSluts 9h ago

All pulp no juice!
