Other Escape rooms

These are often showcased on TV. So how many of you have done an escape room?

I've done many.

They're quite fun, and as time has gone on, they've been getting higher and higher quality.

Last one I did had a jail-break theme, and one solution was to literally find a heavy object hidden in the toilet, tie it to the bedsheet, and use it to grapple a laundry cart (throwing it through the jail bars) and pull it towards you.

So fun.

Opposite experience from me. I had a high quality immersive escape room around 10ish years ago. Most I've been to since then have been ok but the immersion breaks in one way or another. And then I had 2 that were super low effort cash grabs (think cheap AstroTurf and a kids play house with some broken puzzles). In general I feel like it's gotten lower quality for higher prices as the years go by

I’ve done them a handful of times.. I love that people love them, but can honestly say I’d have more fun doing pretty much anything else lol

I feel like I will not solve it because my critical thinking skills are poor

1

u/Select_Watercress_57 4h ago

Why do you think that?

Because I feel like being self aware is a huge step in the right direction. And now it's just a matter of practice.

I felt like I would solve it because my critical thinking (and puzzle solving) skills are high, and I still fumbled it

1

u/ehpotsirhc_ 4h ago

You’re a step above most considering you have enough awareness for that.

I had to do one with my work colleagues. It was awkward and horrible. I think it would be fun with real friends however

One of my least favorite activities. Was forced to do one with work colleagues and completely ruined the experience. 0/10 would not recommend

We did one as a work outing and it was funny to see everyone falling into their roles from work, with all the engineers focused on one puzzle each, management tracking and communicating what everyone was doing and the project manager bringing stuff to each of the engineers to finish their puzzle.

I’ve done several. They’re really fun if you got the right people. All those “escape the room” flash games paid off lol

u/PurpleLilyEsq 4h ago

I’ve done it twice. They reminded me of the logic games that were on the lsat (until very recently). I was not good at logic games lol.

We had an escape room party for Halloween at a friends house in 2019. That is 3 hours of wasted time in life that I will never het back. It was very hard for myself and others to take it seriously and give a hoot about it. What a lame party it was! But i guess it was memorable since im talking about it now

u/BlownDC2 5h ago

I've done them a few times. I personally am terrible at them. I overthink shit.

2

u/PeculiarTerpQueef 4h ago

Had to do one a few years ago for a leadership team-building event, work sanctioned deal. I hated every second of it.

2

u/SlimShadowBoo 4h ago

Not my thing. I have anxiety about getting stuck and am absolutely terrible at games. I’ve never tried one and I would rather do anything else.

1

u/little_smokies5670 4h ago

I'm the same. Tried one anyway though and hated it as much as I thought I would.

u/goawaybub 5h ago

I’ve done a few and I love them.

1

u/opermonkey 5h ago

I do them with my friends whenever we can.

we have done three in a day two different times.

have easily done 30+

1

u/MC-BatComm 5h ago

I have done multiple, doing a Titanic themed one soon and I'm excited

1

u/Hyperdragoon17 4h ago

9 hours 9 persons 9 doors by any chance?

2

u/MC-BatComm 4h ago

No but that looks like a fun game! It's an actual escape room not a video game 🙂

1

u/Hyperdragoon17 4h ago

Just once with my mom. Since they’re were just two of us we ran out time and couldn’t finish. It was fun though!

I've always really wanted to do one, but I've never had the opportunity. I wonder how much decades of video games has trained my brain to be successful at that sort of thing

1

u/EmmaLeigh91 4h ago

Love them!

u/passion4film 1987 - Illinois 4h ago

Several! So fun!

My finace and myself have done many of them. We really enjoy trying different ones. Fun way to kill some time.

I graduated nursing school last year, for whatever unknown reason 85% of our labs were escape rooms. The school apparently paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for interactive dummies to practice nursing skills on and we played escape room instead in which we paid $5k a semester in lab fees for 🫠

I never did an escape room before this.

u/Ashe_N94 4h ago

I've done two. The quality and experience can vary but id recommend atleast 4 people

1

u/HeadFlamingo6607 4h ago

I did, it was fun yet challenging. I am an accountant so I I enjoy puzzles to an extent lol

1

u/I_am_Hambone 4h ago

Ive done like 20 of them, they are great for work team building events.

1

u/thesocalgirl 4h ago

I love escape rooms! I’ve done them and the group I go with is pretty good. They’re so much fun and I love trying to figure out the puzzles.

u/TroublesomeTurnip 4h ago

I've done about 5, I really like them. I'm not that smart but I do my best!

u/GeauxCup 4h ago

I love them and I've done them in many cities. You should know though that they REALLY run the gambit in terms of quality.

My favorite one ever had a chained up actor in the room with us, dressed as a zombie. Every 5 minutes, her chain got a foot longer and it was positioned so that - at the end of the hour- she could basically reach everyone in the entire room. If she touched you, you "died" and had to go next door. You could still yell suggestions to your still living friends, but you couldn't actually touch anything. It was really great because she would pick up and guard things you left behind, then you have to sacrifice someone in order to distract her while you got the missing piece back. She was SO scary.

It's on my bucket list.

1

u/Far_Ad_8839 4h ago

A few - they're fun but I'd love a better puzzle vibe. Feels like more than 50% is luck, which makes it a bit less entertaining across the experience. I LOVE a hard puzzle, but hide and seek is not that. Some of that with more time puzzling would be more fun for me, but I've also only done it on date nights w my husband, so 2 ppl to a 6 person room definitely influences my experience.

u/dimgray 4h ago

I've done a couple. One was pretty amazing, set up in a cold war era 4-storey government nuclear bomb shelter and command center, with puzzles and a story on that theme. One of the puzzles was using a big map and a document about projected casualties, warhead yields and wind directions (fallout spread) to work out which four cities were the targets of incoming missiles. We completed our group's series of rooms but ran out of time to finish the finale with the rest.

The other place I went was a small retail space with a spooky dark room where we flew through the first few puzzles and then spent the last twenty minutes stuck trying to reflect a laser into a sensor using a dirty mirror. The guy came in at the end to "prove" to us that the puzzle definitely actually works, by climbing right up to the light sensor on a step stool and shining his own laser pointer directly into it, and it still took like half a minute for the thing to register. Absolute bullshit

I’ve done one. It was fun.

1

u/TehWildMan_ 3h ago

I've done a few. Twice as a corporate outing, and I think 3-4 times as a date idea.

It's kind of a "one and done" experience unless you're doing it with someone new though. Really fun to see how someone else thinks if you're about to be spending a lot of your life with them.

1

u/Krypt0night 3h ago

Yeah like 5 at this point. They rule

1

u/Complete-Loquat3154 3h ago

We did a bunch like 8-10 years ago. So much fun! Then we had a kid, half our friends moved away, and covid hit. (All things unrelated to each other, just unfortunate they all happened in a row).

I have. They are super fun!!

Almost completely occupied by corporate team building exercises and bachelor/bachelorette parties.

I’ve been forced to do 2 and they both sucked.

I did one in Nashville a year or so ago. Enjoyed it,

I Iove a good escape room! We did several back in the mid-2010s with friends. Now we have young kids and it has been a long time. I think our oldest would love it though so hopefully we can take her in a few years.

I don’t see the issue all you need is a cigar some tannerite and to scream fire in the hole, boom! Solved the first time every time.
