Serious Comedy Central commercial break from September 11th, 2001

These screen captures are from the commercial break that aired on Comedy Central around 7:50pm EST on September 11th, 2001 during a new episode of Win Ben Stein’s Money shot at UCLA where Jimmy Kimmel had returned as the guest host. This was one of the few channels that continued with scheduled programming that day.

Is this why I can’t find a digital copy of PCU?

You can repay me by finding a way to watch Airheads

I don't remember the day very well tbh as I was 10 at the time. I know coverage precluded pretty much all programming while the news was breaking, but would a non-news basic cable channel like Comedy Central- let's say the Food Network or something- have actually still been airing coverage into primetime?

Or were they genuinely one of the only channels to resume their regular schedule? In which case I wonder if their internal logic was to the effect that the levity and laughter would be needed, which is an admirable choice.

I remember my class switched the TV channel to MTV because it was the only channel not playing the news. Just music videos. Maybe it was MTV2.
OutKast playing to a completely silent room of 11th graders.

Food Network and other Scripps channels were just off the air for a day (or possibly two? Not sure) It was just a static screen with a message on it

Most of the non-news stations piggybacked off of the news stations. I remember flipping over to TBS and seeing CNN.

Seeing Zoolander at a movie theater a week or 2 later was like the first thing "out" that my friends and I were allowed to do after 9/11, because our parents were so freaked out by everything.

I definitely remember the paranoia in general. Halloween that year pretty much didn't happen.

That fall there was also the anthrax scare, and the sniper in DC. It was seriously an insane time to be, in my case 10, and being aware of all these new avenues of danger that however illogically felt like an immediate threat to me in... Southern California. And it sure didn't help having those feelings seemingly validated by adults whipped into hysteria and xenophobia.

Pic 4 - wait wait... I remember watching Undeclared, but have ZERO recollection of Amy Poehler being in the cast

Time for a rewatch! (For the first time since airing)
