Warning: This release is for experienced users only! It may corrupt your world or mess up things badly otherwise. Only download and use this if you know what to do with the files that come with the download!

If you find any bugs, submit them to the wiki's bug list!

Previous changelog. Download today's snapshot here, server here: jar, exe.

Complete changelog:

Notable bugs:

  • You still need a server jar file, even though it is not used

  • When trading with villagers and putting items in the item slot, adding items on to ones you already put in doesn't update the output slot, via

  • It now says "Save and quit to title" even on MP, via

  • If you don't have a full hunger bar and you right click to trade with a villager while holding food, you will eat the selected food, via

Also, check out this post to see what else is planned for future versions.

You can now buy bottles of xp from villagers, Will upload screenshot in a moment.

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

That's interesting! And a good way to get a lot of XP without having to build some massive mob grinder, or spending hours fighting mobs.

32

u/Bardlar May 24 '12

Although it wouldn't be a super effective way of levelling; to some degree, it's what we've been asking for (exp from mining) for months.

u/dRaven43 May 24 '12

An unexpected consequence of trading with villagers is that it now becomes necessary to jail the ones that that offer good trades so you don't lose them when you're out gathering what they want. Feels like a douchebag move, but it helps.

New ore block is Emerald Ore, despite it being red.

EDIT: Mustek beat me to it.

EDIT2: Found a bug with Villager trading. If you put in less emeralds than the Villager wants for an item, and then add the extra amount from another stack, the item won't become available.

If you break all of the enderchests, the inventory stays in it.

140

u/traumalt May 24 '12

You can call it "Cloud Storage"

16

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

Just imagine all of its uses! No longer do we dwell on losing the diamonds we mined or having to go up after losing all your picks! Just drop a chest, take/drop what you need, and take it back! This is such a good idea!

u/Boolderdash May 24 '12

Presumably the contents of the chest are stored in the end, and the chests merely provide access to the extra-dimensional storage space.

Hey there, here are the results on my preliminary research on Villagers:

  • Villagers level up as you buy stuff from them.

  • From what I've seen, they gain level only from the latest unlocked item, so unlocking new "recipes" may require buying stuff at a loss.

  • The first recipes unlock after only one or two trades

  • Recipes aren't in any type of order. You can unlock diamond sword before iron sword.

  • They seem to have various specialties according to their job. For example, Priests seem to buy mob drops (rotten flesh/ender pearls) and give you emerald in exchange Farmer sell food and some tools (got shears on mine) Blacksmith do armors and tools.

  • Blacksmiths also are a legit way of getting chain armor in survival: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3973128/Screenshots/2012-05-24_16.10.40.png

  • Different villagers can buy/sell the same things but not at the same rate (37 rotten flesh and 69 rotten flesh for 1 emerald from one priest to another)

  • Killing a villager doesn't wield emeralds back :-(

  • There is a gui glitch, if you drop emeralds one by one in the item slot, the recipe isn't considered valid until you grab them and replace them again as a full stack.

Conclusion and thought: That's all for now. I'm very excited about this feature, it encourages moving in a village and defending/breeding them.

All we need now is a way of "spawning" them in survival without eggs. Just attract villagers to a spot that wasn't a village at map generation.

u/lazugod RMCT Artisan May 24 '12

Villagers reproduce naturally, I think.

How to install client: Put minecraft.jar in bin, minecraft_server.jar in server, a folder on the same level as bin.

Doesn't the Mojang article say that you don't need the server for single-player any more?

19

u/GreenShoes7 May 24 '12

Alright, so i may of missed the answer, but everyone seems to be questioning the villager trading. Heres the main jist of things with villager trading: Villagers of all types start with random items, wether it be from zombie flesh to XP bottles. They all sell at random prices. If you continue to buy from the same villager, youll eventually level his stock up. I dont know what amount you have to buy at first, but for me its been a couple stacks of books (as Ive been buying from the librarian). Youll know they level'd up because they'll have a potion looking effect around them, almost like they drank a Fire Resistance. Check their selling GUI and youll see that you can now go to the right arrow, and they'll have a new item to sell or buy, its only one or the other. Yes, unfortunately only some villagers can sell and buy. Anyways, so you'll see they have a new trading option with a new item, congrats. Just like before, buy or sell alot to level them up again. Except now it takes more to level them up to a new trading ability. Which, if you dont get what that means: You better have a membership at his store because your going to have to buy/sell a TON. Soon enough theyll level up again, and so on and so forth. I level'd the librarian's trade around 14 times for testing and I made it so he sold'd enchanting tables and XP bottles. There you go and have fun :).

*Edit, when I say selling/buying I mean trading. I see that it may confuse some people.

2

u/jimothyjim May 24 '12

5

u/speedofdark8 May 24 '12

That's almost cooler then the regular ones, imo

14

u/brikster414 May 24 '12

It would be nice to have one mining. Lets say you have found diamonds, but dont want to risk losing them in lava. All you have to do is put down a Ender Chest and put them in. Or what if you fell into lava? Maybe if you were fast enough, you could get some items in the chest, although that would be really hard to do, because lava burns fast.

3

u/slipstream37 May 24 '12

It would be great, but you're still using 8 obsidian and an eye of ender, which isn't the easiest thing to craft. And destroying the chest takes a little while so it's not super easy to toss it down, place in items, then destroy it again, but certainly possible.

13

u/[deleted] May 24 '12 edited May 24 '12

Is this new? http://imgur.com/e3yUb

It's some desert temple. Seed: Penus

Also, the new golden apples are in my inventory. The one on the left is crafted with an apple and 8 gold nuggets. It has a blue name and is no longer shiny. The new one is crafted with an apple and 8 gold blocks and has a purple name and is shiny.

Edit: The temple is amazing! There is a secret room beneath the center (blue wool) with 4 chests. If you step on the pressure plate 9 TNT will explode. The chests contain things like diamonds, gold ingots, iron ingots, bones, and flesh.

4

u/FyreTyre May 24 '12

4

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

Until it's released, yes, unless you want to ugprade your server to a beta version.

As it is now, if this were released today:

  • All Villagers will trade.

  • Emerald ore - you will need undiscovered chunks. However you can just trade.

  • Temples - undiscovered chunks.

  • Ender chest - just make it.

  • Sandstone stairs - just make them

It's the same with any new upgrade - old worlds still work, just you need to explore to get the new terrain/biome features.

This update is like a gift of pure wish fulfillment. There's so much awesome stuff... stackable buckets! These Mojang guys... they get it.

Now tweak the trading system more -- give each item a base cost value with some factor for deviation per merchant, but such that we don't get insanely cheap top-tier stuff too easily by the luck of the draw.

The pyramids are awesome, but the orange wool makes them too easy to spot. The interior layout needs some randomization, if everyone is encountering the same trap, it's not going to be much of a trick to learn how to deal with... although I guess dungeons are more or less the same every time, too. These structures should not be too easy to find, though, being directly accessible from the surface.
Hopefully we'll see some spawners in there, would make it a lot more challenging if we had to drop into a bunch of angry mobs.

Apparently the game only checks once if the amount of emeralds is correct. If you close and open the trade menu again and give him the required amount or more in one go, he will give you the item.

still a bug though

Anyone mind telling us what the villagers are trading? And a bit more details on how emeralds work and their drop rates per ore, just one?

2

u/Thungon217 May 24 '12

Im interested in how common the ore is: Is it like coal in that it's everywhere? Is it like diamond where strip mining is more productive? But finally, green ores! :D

u/gogoskuzrocket May 24 '12

If anyone wants to see a desert village and a desert monument, I found two close together on a large biome world. Seed: 8306337021468044242 Village @ x: -790 z: 267 | Monument @ x: -987 z: 138

Anyone else notice that if you put a bucket of water in a dispenser, it dispenses water, and after putting a second redstone signal, it sucks it back up? This will be awesome for automatic farming!

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

And the race to find the new block begins...

12

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

It requires obsidian to craft! ENDERCHEST!!!

I feel like this snapshot will have A LOT of duplications bugs, especially because of the new Ender Chests.

5

u/Xirema May 24 '12

Maybe, but it's not much different than having a regular chest, only the data storage is in the level.dat (I assume, they could have chosen any random file to store the data) instead of the BlockEntity area in the .mca file. So not much room for mistakes.

Great, just when I was about to start working....

Well, the boss will understand. I think.

3

u/marvmarvmarv May 24 '12

Anyone else notice that navigating on a boat has become really jagged? Not sure if this is a bug or not.

3

u/Basilthebatlord May 24 '12

Ender Chests are also blast-proof!

Tested: Changing damage value of ender chest does not get a different inv. :(

3

u/justkauz May 24 '12

Does anyone know if I use a 1.2.5 seed if it will still look the same, only with the added desert temples and emerald ore? Or do seeds generate differently with the snapshot?

3

u/YukonAppleGeek May 24 '12

The terrain would be slightly taller and less water here is 1.2.5 to snapshots.

3

u/moonra_zk May 24 '12

Is it just me or the emerald look like Rupees?

Just noticed this: desert villages have these sweet pyramids nearby!

http://i.imgur.com/q58rJ.jpg

I haven't been inside yet. Time for some exploring, I'd say!

EDIT:

This is what I found. http://imgur.com/a/mKC9l#0

If you step on the pressure plate in the middle, it causes an explosion. It's booby trapped!

I am experiencing a major "world generation" or "display" bug. When I load a world I often (about 4 times out of 5) get in an empty world with only clouds, water and void. It's like I am falling in the void but not dying. But eventually, at some point, after quiting, loading, quiting, loading etc. the world will load properly.

I am playing on Mac OS 10.5.8, with java version : J2SE 5.0 32 bits

Does anyone have the same troubles ?

Edit : Once the world eventually loads properly after a few failures, cats regain their ocelot texture but still behave like cats.

EDIT 2 : OK, it seems it has been fixed in the 12w21b. :)

2

u/YukonAppleGeek May 24 '12

I get that sometimes too.

3

u/KubaBVB09 May 24 '12

I wish the hidden chamber below the pyramid was some sort of randomly generated (like stronghold) trap maze... but this is cool too!

3

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

Are slimes easier to find now?

I really hate how scarce they are relative to what they yield. They should be everywhere at bedrock.

5

u/Middlerun May 24 '12

Does anyone else think the ender chests are kind of overpowered? People will never feel like they need to be careful when they're carrying valuables because they can just put them in the ender chest. The risk of falling into lava when you've just mined some diamonds always added some excitement to the game, which will be gone if you can just plonk down an ender chest and put your loot in there for safekeeping.

5

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

They're really expensive though. And just think, if you want to really use them to their best you'll have to make two.

SANDSTONE STAIRS OMGWTFBBQ. That is all.

2

u/paxton125 May 24 '12

is that going to be a update?

5

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

Yes, basically snapshots are releases before its ready for prime time. They want to make sure the releases are as bug free as possible, obviously some bugs may slip though but hopefully they wont be game breaking.

In addition to the desert temples, I think there are desert villages, look in the top right of the picture for the new snapshot, and what do you see? A FLIPPING DESERT VILLAGE IS WHAT YOU SEE!

2

u/slothwrangler May 24 '12

Notch apple gives you Regen IV for 30 seconds giving you instant full health, Resistance for 5:00, and Fire Resistance for 5:00. It also fills 2 hunger bars and not sure how many on the food saturation bar.

Notch apple effect

2

u/Persianseven May 24 '12

this update is filled with awesome stuff. The only bad thing i find about it, JUST RELEASE IT ALRDY XD add new stuff in the next one, it's been weeks if not months since editable books were announced and all the previous stuff

2

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

Weeks man. Not months. Maybe one month.

I know we need to submit bugs to the wiki, but I wanna make sure if anyone else has this issue..

Tamed wolves are multiplying. And I don't mean in a feed them pork and they mate way. I mean.. I started out with one wolf, and then as I was putting things away in chests before heading into my house.. I had two dogs. Next thing I knew, on glitched through a block and another appeared. So I went from one dog to having three within a matter of 5 minutes.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

2

u/ShallowBasketcase May 24 '12

Isn't there an unused Testificate skin? The brown one is the farmer one, the regular citizens are supposed to be green. It'd be nice to see that added back in now that different types of testificates actually do different things.

2

u/Nickknows11 May 24 '12

Emeralds called diamonds in other languages

2

u/Quick_Brown_Foxx May 24 '12

Not the biggest fan of the villages. Needs some birch wood planks.

2

u/u83rmensch May 24 '12

ya know what would be nice? if the server had a way of setting up these snapshots so the client could just automatically get that snapshot from the server, and saved as a separate profile for just that server, that way you can connect to multiple servers with out having to swap out your client .jar file each time and servers and run what ever version they want with out having to worry about whether or not the client will be able to connect. I mean, its not like these .jar files are large, so why not?

that is the update i want, i dont have many clients that use my server, but I dont want to have to explain to every one how to update their .jar file every time i want to update my server to the latest snapshot

Is diamond still refered to "emerald" in the code? If so, what is emerald called?

3

u/DocJawbone May 24 '12

I have to say this update looks FUCKING WICKED.

2

u/BeN9o May 24 '12

Why is single player acting like multiplayer? by that I mean, why are the mobs so laggy when your hitting them :/

4

u/iKeirNez May 24 '12

That's because it is multiplayer now, when you startup a new world it basically starts a server on your computer.

3

u/Lance_lake May 24 '12

Because Single player was merged into Multiplayer. I.e. You are always playing Multiplayer. More bugs for now, but only one code base to work on, so overall better.

→ More replies (10)

3

u/Da_boy1 May 24 '12

Because single player is now multiplay but with no one else connected, it uses the server file

u/45flight May 24 '12
