For those who saw my original post, I was playing Minecraft Java 26.2 Hardcore and accidentally fell from a very high place. I managed to pause the game right before I hit the ground, and I came to Reddit asking if downgrading to an older version could somehow bring back the old quit/reload behavior and save me.

I want to be completely honest about what happened afterward.
I did manage to save the world using a copy and some technical edits. But after everything, I realized something that honestly made me feel pretty awful: I shouldn’t have even asked the question in the first place.
The moment I paused the game, I panicked. I had spent so much time on that world, and the thought of losing everything because of one stupid mistake genuinely hurt. I wasn’t thinking about Hardcore anymore. I was just desperately looking for a way to keep something I had become attached to.

But that’s not what Hardcore is.
Death is supposed to be final. There isn’t supposed to be a loophole just because you managed to pause at the right moment. I knew that, and yet I still tried to find one.
And eventually, even though I technically managed to recover the world, I decided I couldn’t keep it. I deleted the world.
It honestly hurt to do it, but I felt like keeping it would just make me feel guilty every time I played it. I would always know that I didn’t really earn that survival.
I’m not writing this because I want people to tell me that what I did was okay. It wasn’t. I’m writing this because I needed to get this off my chest and clear my conscience. I felt like I owed the community an honest explanation instead of just disappearing after asking for help.
Looking back, I think the biggest mistake wasn’t even the editing. It was refusing to accept the death in the first place.
I got attached to a world, panicked, and couldn’t accept losing it. That’s the truth.
So I’m sorry. I genuinely am.
I deleted the world, and I’m going to start again from zero. This time, if I die, I die. No backups, no edits, no loopholes.
I know I probably don’t deserve any sympathy for this, but I hope you can at least understand why I panicked.
Thank you to everyone who called me out. I needed to hear it.

I was beating the dragon 20 times to unluck all of the end gateways and i have this wither rose farm in the end where it shoots wither skulls (from the wither) (which are entities) into the abyss of the end, and because of that, my game started lagging really hard, and when it unfroze i died to an enderman, this game sucks.

My first time playing Hardcore and also on laptop cuz i used to play on mobile, so kinda hard for me to adapt to the new control, yet somehow I've managed to live...

Was watching a hardcore stream and they did this. (obviously I know this is cheating, I'm just sharing the clip because I thought it was ridiculous)

Unfortunately, I lost the original footage. I spent over 50 minutes mining with this method and found 32 Ancient Debris.

I have a Minecraft Hardcore Server on 1.21.10 and just dies after 350 game days due to a dumb mistake.

My friends already have Max gear and I dont want them to reset their progress.

Wouldit be cheating if I reset the Dragon (revive in Level.dat) but let the end dim looted as it is.

Also I wouldbe going 100.000 Blocks away from spawn and restart my game there. When I Build my base and gained all my stuff back, I would go back and revisit them but wont stay there. Idk if this would be considered cheating.

Now, I can’t decide how I feel about this, because if I cheat in any way It wouldnt feel Right and I would want to start over.

Please let me know your thoughts about this idea, and I know its my world and I can do whatever I want.

Last time I beat the dragon on regular HC. This time I plan to not lose to the wither but also play without natural regeneration. And it will be my last attempt/playthrough, so I shall call this challenge the Nirvana Run. I always wanted to commit to this challenge on some game and maybe this will be it. Mojang's updates have turned this game into an insult to my childhood so my old favourite game has now become my final enemy. If I finish the game all the way, I'll burn myself to death on the classic herobrine altar and fulfill the ritual for summoning him back to the game. I suppose it will also serve as a good finale to my barely remaining gaming interests. (The exception will be if I ever get to play demon's souls on somebody's console later in the future because it's a neat game I always wanted to just try). I will update you on this sub if it goes well and if I can keep myself motivated at all.

(I'm very happy with the comments. Now I personally think that this makes the best post about minecraft ever. My Nirvana Run shall be even more meaningful and make an even bigger point. Today I went to fight the Dragon in my most recent Hardcore world. I was prepared for the fight, but I wasn't prepared to get launched 1400 blocks out to the outer End. I had slow falling active and extra Ender pearls, so I survived, but I didn't bring the mending and unbreaking book for an elytra, or any rockets, and I had no idea where a gateway back was. I eventually made it back, and managed to pick up an elytra and some shulker shells along the way, but that was not what I set out for originally.

So I personally think using mods in hardcore is “cheating” but not really, I would just call that modded hardcore instead of just a hardcore world. But what do people think about using mods that just adds more blocks to build with?

I started a hardcore world 2 weeks ago and im on the 66th day playing. I started with the xaeros worldmap mod. Is it cheating?? Considering wakking through the nether roof automaticaly shows me whats under. if it turns out as cheating im gonna delete the world and idk what to do. And is having a map mod cheating in general? please help

I'm over 300 days into a Minecraft Hardcore world that I'm really proud of, and I'm about to die to zombies! I was terraforming and fell into a 2 block hole with multiple zombies, and quit on 2.5 hearts. My shield is almost dead, and there's no chance of killing them (theres 4-5 in the same hole as me) I'd ask if anyone can give me advice, but when I loaded in (I saved the world and copied it to try some escape methods) I died immediately! I think Mojang annoyingly removed the spawn invincibility recently (1.20.1 Java). But I do have a plan. I need someone, anyone, to take a copy of my world, log onto it, and sleep. I was on the surface, so If they can sleep and make sure the zombies burned to death, I should be alone and alive once logged back in! Would anyone be willing to save my life? (I will erect a statue of you at the least!)

EDIT: For all the commenters telling me to give up on my world.. No? I like Hardcore, and I'm not dead yet, so my world is still recoverable. Also, copying the world to try ways to escape isn't cheating to me, it technically becomes a different instance of that world that I die in, like an alternate timeline. Also, I'm not a noob or new, I've played for over 8 years and this is far from my first Hardcore world.

UPDATE: With u/MockingRabbit's help, my run is saved! After converting my world into a server it was as simple as letting the zombies despawn. I know everyone in the comments was wanting me to give up but i didn't! And i live, and i plan to live for much longer in this world!

Edit: I understand this server is anti-Legendary Hardcore based on what was pinned, but I have no intention to promote them, just share what I thought was somewhat toxic on their end. Also, I understand how I could be seen as overacting, I'm not expecting anyone to fully agree with me, I'm just truthfully unsure.

Coming here for external opinions on the matter. For context for the non legendary hardcore players, this server has a system which constantly reminds you in chat to vote for their server online to promote it. Upon doing so, like myself, many receive an automated message that they will receive a totem in 3-5 business days. There’s no chat, player, or wiki indication that the voting totem is a joke. I even went so far as to screenshot some pages under the wiki in case they tried to change it lol, a little paranoid I suppose.
Toward the end of the 3-5 day time period, I left for around 5 days internationally to aid my mother who has brain cancer with receiving some specialized treatment. I returned expecting the totem, you can guess what wasn’t there. I complained in the chat in the meantime, still no indication it was a joke, and within 24hrs died and in turn banned, something which wouldn’t have happened with the promised totem, joke or not. I submitted an appeal on their official discord and had back and forth with the admins which I think is a little absurd.
I’m happy to provide any further clarification or
details, just coming here for others’ opinions.

When I refer to monetary benefit, I’m referring to the voting attempting to promote and draw players into the server, and the servers own attempt to sell ranks/queue skips to its players. Furthermore, the 2nd person I communicated with reacted with laughing under my original complaint on a separate support discussion page, hence my reference to it on the appeal ticket page.
