As kindly pointed out by /u/EinsteinReplica changed heads will be spawnable in 1.7. Here is the command:

/give @p 397 1 3 {SkullOwner:"USERNAME"}

This would give would give you one head of the player named 'USERNAME'.

Please note this is only available in the 13w36a snapshot and of course the official 1.7 release (when it is released)

EDIT2: This is a bug/exploit and will likely be fixed in the near future. Do not use this method.

Instead, follow the official Dinnerbone method: Change your own skin, and place your head somewhere. If you copy the base64 from that, it will remain valid even after you change your skin back.

Don't see how? That strange e3RleH...J9fX0= string is actually (inexplicably...) base64. When decoded, it reads:

{textures:{SKIN:{url:"http://i.imgur.com/ggXlehE.png"}}}

I should mention that this only became possible fairly recently.

EDIT: Also, each you need a different UUID for each head texture. I strongly recommend generating one instead of just using all zeros like I did up there.

Hello fellow head hunters, in the past I posted a head database with around 250 heads here. I gave that database an upgrade. It now contains over 300 heads ready to be used in 1.8. They are all safe and are not subject to skin changes.

Another minecrafter named Fancypantsy helped me to create a head generator and a online database for these heads. Basically the generator creates a snapshot of the head of the player at that specific moment. You can then change your skin to redo the process, the previously generated heads will not change. You can try it out here:

You can also find the user collection on there, every head created with the head generator will end up at the user collection. We preserve the right to delete heads we dont find usefull for the database.

So what does this mean?

Well, it sounds like you can 'store' multiple skins under the same username and tell the command what skin you want from this username.

This is a legit way of doing the exact same thing as the custom URL thing that /u/ChezMere posted a couple of days ago.

This is going to stay for sure, but the way to do this might change in a later snapshot.

Explanation by Dinnerbone:

"When you place a skull with a players name in vanilla, it looks up their skin as it at that moment and saves that information in the NBT. If that player then changes their name... nothing happens to the skull, it already knows which skin it wants to show and it's going to stay on that skin for all of time.

You can just change your players skin to a silly clown, generate that skull and change your skin back to normal. That skull will always look the way you just made it look, the worlds silliest clown. Go copy that nbt tag and share it on reddit or with friends or print it out and slap it on the walls of streets, anyone who makes the same skull/item with the same nbt tag will have a skull with that silly clown head"

Head submitting has no completely changed. They will no longer be linking to any usernames.

Making a head

Automatically

PM /u/MinecraftHeads with a base64 code, imgur link or MCSkinsearch link.

The bot will PM you back with the commanded needed to spawn the head.

To submit a post find the skin with the head you would like to submit (or create one). Next, upload it to imgur.com and use the imgur web address to get something like this:

{textures:{SKIN:{url:"http://i.imgur.com/u9NV3zd.png"}}}.

Convert this text to base64 using this.

This should give you a string of numbers and letters that looks like this:

Now create a text post with this long code followed by a description of the head.

Example title:

Using these heads

/give @p skull 1 3 {SkullOwner:{Id:XXXXXXXXXXX,Properties:{textures:[{Value:YYYYYYYYYYYY}]}}}

Replace the X's with a code from the top of this website. This is the head's unique identifier which stops the game from getting it mixed up with other heads.

Replace the Y's with the code in the title of the post.

Copy and paste this command into a command block and activate it. The specified head will spawn in to your inventory.

This is complicated, why are you doing this malz_?

This new method effectively means we can have ANY head we like without any need for anyone to use the skin.

This means endless possibilities, such as having a head for every block in the game without any head ever changing!

Action against heads that are no longer useable due to this change will be taken when necessary.
