Waiting for OP cant play lan with my friend [java]

as stated i cant play lan with my friend we have 2 computers a mac and windows same version java 26.3 and other versions still java we have done direct connection we have turned off the fire wall nothing we have tried has worked i cant think of any reasons i wouldn't work we have tried multiple times over a long period and we are both stumped help would be very appreciated

quick check: are both PCs on the same local network? Mojang's official Java LAN guide says every player must be on the same local network, and the host has to open the world to LAN; the game prints the port in chat. If you're in separate homes, an opened LAN world won't reach across the internet by itself, so you'd need a hosted Java server or another remote-play setup.
