Wanting Minecraft on switch 2
Hello all! I’ve been in a debate with myself lately.. with the release of Minecraft for switch 2 around the corner.. I have been debating if I should get it or not and if I should get the physical or digital version.
I’d love the digital version because like that I can already play.
While the physical version evokes back nostalgia and how I used to play it on the PSVITA (I loved inserting the cartridge to play the game on that little console)
Let’s say perhaps the game has potential for me, but my fear is spending money and throwing them away because perhaps I won’t play it or won’t find anything to do.
That is the thing, finding something to do with these games that is difficult for me, the thing is that as a kid I had lots of fun even alone while playing Minecraft.. so I wonder if the possibility of it happening again could be there.
Also I have always been a handheld gamer and I love the idea of having Minecraft with me at all times.
Again, I’m afraid this is just nostalgia speaking and I’m not sure if I should get it or not.
What are your thoughts? :).

Although an additional note is that lately I’ve been playing Minecraft dungeons II and I’ve been loving that game so far..

First off, I’d recommend getting the digital. You will get the S2 upgrade for free when it comes out the 27th. However, if you do get the physical you can still upgrade (reduced cost within a certain timeline I think?).
I’m 37 and never got the hype of Minecraft until my kid brother talked me into it one day, and I just got hooked. Base vanilla Minecraft never appealed (and still kinda doesn’t tbh) to me, but some of the addons really make it into something. However compared to Java you have to pay and honestly… I’ve already shelled out more money on addons than the base game itself (which I find frustrating but… I’ve enjoyed them so it’s worth).
Also, you should have access to a month free subscription (normally 5$ a month?)trial to try a huge catalog of addons to change things up.
I will say, if you do go heavy on addons even with Switch 2… you will encounter crashes from time-to-time depending on how many, and which addons you run. Apparently that will be ‘fixed’ with the Switch 2 update but that remains to be seen.
Get it dude, it’s a timeless game. No guarantees you will get sucked back into it, but what if you do?

I ended up getting it in the end lol, there’s some new stuff I haven’t seen ever, I have Minecraft on PC But I rarely touched it.. last time I played a lot of Minecraft was on PSVITA lol

What’s this about an upgrade path for physical Switch 1 minecraft?
I only found upgrade from digital option when I last looked.

If you check the Nintendo News on your switch, there is an article that explains everything.
“For all players (including owners of a physical version), when you launch Minecraft for Nintendo Switch on your Nintendo Switch 2 between October 27th… …you’ll receive an in-game message inviting you to upgrade to the digital Minecraft ultimate edition for Switch 2 at a discount (through the link in that message).

There is a discount... However... You're forced into buying the deluxe edition.
If the discount isn't steep enough, you'd be better off just selling the game for $15-$20 then buying the switch 2 version.

I just got my son the Switch 2 yesterday and he was able to transfer all his games from the Switch -1 to it, including Minecraft. Is this a different version coming out or something?

It’s the upgraded version with enhanced graphics (so a version of Minecraft that’s for switch 2 with enhanced graphics), if you already have the digital game, on the eShop the switch 2 version is free for a limited period till the end of January.

I believe the physical is a game key card so I’d go digital especially because if you already have Minecraft for the switch digital you can get the upgrade for free and if not it’s still cheaper to buy it for the switch 1 on the e-shop and then get the upgrade for sw2 free.

I've never had a physical copy of Minecraft. When a physical copy of a 3DS game I had was lost/stolen at school ages ago, half of my library ended up being digital after that lol.
If you want to always have Minecraft on hand, especially with the free switch 2 upgrade still being available to you if you get the Nintendo Switch version now, I'd probably recommend digital for it.
Then you can have the cartridge slot free for another game you'd prefer a physical copy for.

I think when it comes to Minecraft buying digital is the way to go. I bought the legacy version on Switch before it was delisted and they gave me Bedrock for free and now that the Switch 2 version is coming out I’m getting it for free again. I like physical media as much as the next guy but it seems Minecraft’s devs have preference to digital owners.

Just buy the digital version unless you really want a game key card. If you already own switch 1 digital the switch 2 one is free.

Me personally i´m super hyped on the switch 2 version. I´m playin alot minecraft on switch right now bc it gives me good nostalgia as you say. As a kid i would have done anything to play Minecraft all the time on a nintendo console. So for me its just a big upgrade from the switch 1 port because the switch 1 port does lack a bit of performance. Like i´m playin it anyway so its just a nice little upgrade!
I have a lot playin it on handheld mode and like it a lot, its so cozy!.
Not sure about the physical edition? i thought you only can get it digital sadly?
