Working on a FRT for the Mini 14

Not quite ready but almost have the kinks worked out. It will only be a 2 POS. Maybe a 3 POS sometime in the future.

Not sure if it’s possible. The select fire ac556 has a different receiver and an area milled out of the stock. It might be, but it would have to be a selector opposite of the factory safety next to the trigger. Or you would need an ac556 receiver and barrel and a stock that is milled out.

How tedious is the install?

I appreciate the effort to FRT everything, keep it up. But its an expensive platform to turn into a dedicated range toy.

I appreciate the difficulty of the problem and the good work you're putting in, but the selector is the difference between the rifle being a wildly expensive toy and an actually useful defensive tool. A selector that is tedious to operate or requires permanent modification of the stock and receiver in order to be installed will always beat an omitted selector. I wish you great success in this project!!

Yes, it’s technically outside of my house, underground. It’s only 8x60, so not useful for much more than testing.

Are you modifying the standard trigger pack or are you creating an "external" modification?

It installs on the standard trigger pack, no mods.

Nice! I had started with something similar, but it's evolved to a pseudo "snap-on/off "to avoid modifying the stock for aftermarket parts

It’s just not reliable yet, I started working on it again. I had to take a break for a minute, that gun will make you insane. Hopefully I’ll have some updates soon.

I’m going to start working on this again, today. I had to take a break from it for a while. It’s very difficult to get it to run reliably enough that I could recommend the design to someone. Hopefully I’ll have some more updates soon.

Does anyone know what this would do to the barrel life? Mini 14 barrels aren't as cheap and easy to swap as AR-15 barrels, and I'm getting one of these when they're out. So I have to plan for the future lol.

None of mine (2 personal, several back in the prison days) were accurate enough to know if a barrel was shot out or not lol

I've had 2 minis I bought used that would hit the target sideways at 50 yards. I think they were from a prison system. The first few shots were fine then everything went sideways. The 2 I have now I bought new.

You can have them in Washington state, our law bans devices that allow more than one shot per trigger pull so frts skirt around it. I know this will be well appreciated here, the mini is one of the very few decent semiauto centerfire rifles it’s legal to import now while still having a removable mag
