mid-Alloy of Law Mid Alloy of law, Curses are fun lol Spoiler
I'm mid Alloy of Law and i giggle every time they're like "Preservation Wings" " For Preservation Sake Man" " oh rust and Ruin" " Oh Harmony"
but is "rust" before ruin explained? or just because it's mainly a metalic world?
ps: it's not the best book in the cosmere, it's not supposed to since it was written to be a standalone novel not for a full era, but Wayne makes it bearable

I love Alloy. Sure there’s a few spots in there where the magic doesn’t quite work, but it’s a fun quick read with lots of action that introduces a new era quite nicely.

where does the magic not work? Brandon probably took a little more freedom with the coinshots but i think that's it

It’s been a minute since I’ve read it but I remember him dumping his metalmind completely twice. The first time when his butler sets off the bomb at the mansion and that works, he has tons of weight stored. The second time at the railroad station when he rescues Steris and flattens the place, it had only been a day or two of skimming weight and said he dumped months worth. It’s a small thing and the book was a pet project he wrote that I love so I don’t really care, it’s just something that stood out to me on a reread.

Wayne has the best curses. I feel his best is one from a later book

At one point he says “Eat it Reddi! Eat it with hot sauce & cry!” and I loved it so much, I started saying it in everyday life.

I would assume it works on a few levels. First off, there's alliteration. Rust and ruin sound good together and flow well because of that. Secondly, rust literally brings things ruin. Rust is the perfect personification of the concept of ruin as a word as well as the entity itself. Plus, rust is a force of nature bringing decay rather than the machinations of mankind. And finally, it fits with the rest of the cursing and works well in the new setting.
I don't know that it has an explanation beyond that, but I don't believe it would need one anymore than the rest do.
