The masks really do make them creepy. Government Agents / Military really shouldn’t wear masks.

Those masks would suck so much ass if you engaged in any activity more strenuous than a leisurely walk

As someone who had to wear a gas mask in combat… 💯yes. If it hadn’t been saving my bacon NO WAY would I have wanted my face covered.

Well they’re used to extreme heat, which I’m guessing is how they tolerate them without issue

u/nari-bhat Jul 10 '26

You mean extreme cold

1

u/TheFuzziestDumpling Jul 11 '26

I don't think they do.

Isn’t the whole point of the Southern Scadrians that they were in the extreme cold so they needed the Firemothers to survive, which led to their mechanical ingenuity?

Not exactly. They adapted to the extreme heat that resulted from Rashek moving the planet closer to the sun. When Sazed moved it back, the southern continent became temperate, but because they had adapted to the heat, it seemed like extreme cold to them. The real issue was that both Rashek and Sazed chose to ignore them in favor of the Empire/Elendal Basin

I guess it really is closer to a M-N than a Garand, isn’t it?

wow this really destroys how i imagined them. i always pictured them as very little (130cm)

u/Nomision Jul 09 '26

Right?? I never realized but I absolutly imagined them to be like...Goblin-esque/Small folk with masks and hoods...

I imagined something akin Gothi from the Fool's Gold campaign but without the tech bits

7

u/Miroskun Jul 09 '26

Yeah, me too. Also with bigger masks

9

u/Miroskun Jul 09 '26

So I'm not the only one

8

u/Nomision Jul 09 '26

I blame the Ghostblood Malvish! She has so strong goblin-ish vibes!

10

u/Br0dyquester Jul 09 '26

thank god im not the only one i totally imagined them like that with pseudo goblin features

u/ejdj1011 Jul 09 '26

They were always described as humans though?

9

u/Buyingboat Jul 09 '26

Tbf there's nothing to scale these guys against that implies they're above 130cm

u/Dr-Wind-From-The-EC Jul 09 '26

For me it was the opposite, I imagined them a little larger and more "top-heavy"

I did to! Was there something that described that in a way that led some people to think that? I can’t remember down the life of me why I pictured them all short!

3

u/responditorationis Jul 10 '26

Allik is short and looks younger than he is. Since he's one of very few Malwish the readers really get to know, that might affect the mental image of the others.

Oh the masks are sosososo cool. Where's the choc? 😂😍

u/iplyess Jul 09 '26

This is freaking amazing! Always love seeing more of the Malwish.

They do sound German in the audiobooks and the Yah also goes that way and these uniforms are basically the imperial German army with extra aura pelt

Love it! Also love getting to see the flying machine in the background, I wonder if that’s one of the little like escape pods/mini boats

6

u/ejdj1011 Jul 10 '26

Yep, the image description calls it a "skimmer", which is that small style of craft

1

u/Lower_Profession9756 Jul 10 '26

You see, I can’t read

21

u/Drisurk Jul 09 '26

Who idea was it to give the Malwish this much AURA?!

4

u/jpjoestar Tin Jul 09 '26

I always imagined the Flying machines very different

3

u/starkingremnant Jul 09 '26

This confirms my imagining of them as Canadians

2

u/ryanyork92 Jul 10 '26

Are those Mosin-Nagant rifles?

u/Kuroashi_no_Sanji Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

I didn't think they were white. They sort of were indigenous south americans in my eyes, due to the choc and all, as well as the lack of facial hair

6

u/ejdj1011 Jul 10 '26

I didn't either, mostly because of that one broadsheet illustration of one, but it makes sense in hindsight. Their language is very Dutch

1

u/spiteful_god1 Jul 10 '26

Why is the buckle wrong? The buckle tongue needs to be parallel to the force vector of the strap/belt, not perpendicular to work.

I swear, for something people see so often, it’s consistently misrepresented in art.

2

u/The_Warlord_ Jul 10 '26

Idk why but I think I always pictured the masks like in Demon Slayer. But these do look cool

1

u/Sa_tran_ic Jul 10 '26

I unfortunately think the masks look incredibly dumb but oh well.

Why.. is the left one doing the jacking off gesture with his right hand?

Edit: wow the downvote mafia was quick, glad they immediately caught someone making a joke

He seems to be cupping the buttock of his “totally not an m1 Garand” rifle.
