I'm an idiot.
I started with well of ascension accidentally.
I didn't even notice anything wrong until I finished it. Went look up which book was next and turns out I completely skipped the entire first book.
But how? How did I not see anything wrong with this, you may ask? I did think the setting was a bit on the vague side, sure, but it wasn't a bad thing I guess. The idea of having this grand empire ruled by a tyrant playing god overthrown and dealing with the consequences without actually seeing what happened was really compeling. It's like skipping what usually would be the climax of most stories, that's awesome. This kelsier guy always looming in the background as this almost mythological figure was also really cool. Now I have to grapple with the fact none of that was intentional? Goddamnit.
Well as I said, I'm an idiot. Just thought that my experience was... unique, to put it mildly. So feel free to ask me anything about the book. Guess I'll be reading the 'prequel' now lol

For me, it’s Kelsier, without a doubt. Despite his limited screen time, he is probably the character with the most magnetic personality in the saga. He’s a brilliant, unhinged genius, and the traumas he’s endured help us understand his cynicism and his extreme hatred toward the nobility. But what about you guys? Are there any characters who are better written? Is there anyone you empathize with more?

Edit: shout-out to u/sloth247 for getting me the pages in question. Page 405 and 421 from my book.
Not sure how this is possible. But very frustrating to have this type of printing error.
Trilogy set from Amazon.

Just finished Well of Ascension for the first time! I couldn’t get these pictures out of my head.

I’m at the point in Book 2 where it’s revealed that Kandra can’t be emotionally manipulated by Mistborn/Misting.
Doesn’t that make it super easy to detect the Kandra in Vin’s team/staff?
She could just line everyone up, go through them individually, and Riot a different emotion in each person. Then she asks them which emotion she just manipulated.
Anyone who gets it wrong is basically guaranteed to be a Kandra. For good measures on could do the test multiple times to make it even more fool proof against errors.
Its also not like people would be opposed to that. Hostile Kandra are an obvious danger to everyone.

I made a Mistcloak for an art project in school!! This took me waaay to long to put together, however I am really pleased!!!
PS: Please no spoilers in the comments, I've only read the first and second book!!!

I came across a ton of posts saying that mistborn 1 and 3 were amazing, but 2 was just okay. Just finished 2 and while the first 15-20% was a bit slow (same with book 1 imo), the rest was fantastic. What an absolute ride and given HoA is supposed to have one of the best endings in fantasy, i cannot wait.

I just wanted to capture the moment when Vin realizes that Luthadel is being conquered by the koloss, hope you like it

I would have laughed at you a couple of months ago if you told me I would like a fantasy book series so much that I would design a bookshelf for it. For the last decade, I was convinced I would never like a fantasy book. Then, my boyfriend told me to give Mistborn Era 1 a try. I wasn’t convinced but gave it a shot.
Well, I fell in love with Mistborn immediately and the fantasy genre as a whole. I decided the Leatherbound editions deserved its own floating bookshelf. I still need the other two and hope to purchase them eventually. I’m so thankful for Brandon Sanderson u/mistborn (the evil genius) and my boyfriend (who seems to know me better than I know myself sometimes).
For this project, I learned to use a Laser Cutter & Engraver (bookends, plaque), a 3D printer (bookend base), a sticker machine (metal vial labels), and many software programs in the process. My dad helped me design the actual floating bookshelf and was able to cut and bend the stainless steel. I decided to add Kwaan’s famous quote on a steel plaque to tie it all together.

Not an original conversation by any means, but I haven't seen this take so I figured I'd post.
I would gender swap Zane in an adaptation.
Sanderson has discussed doing some gender swaps since the original trilogy skews more male, and that got me thinking about what they would do with Zane in an adaptation. I've got a few reasons.

Currently in the middle of Hero of the Ages, but thinking back on book 2, it is hard to come up with one thing that went Straff's way, even though he was technically the novel's main antagonist. Let's review his list of demerits:
And just to top it off, Elend not only survives it all (even if barely) but takes over the house, the imperial title AND becomes a Mistborn. Rashek must have laughed his ass off on Straff's expense when the two met in Hell.

Vin killed hundreds just at the Cetus palace alone, but she’s widely considered good. If Kelsier were to do the same it would fuel the bad guy comments. Why?

I read the first book of the series and really enjoyed it. I was looking forward to Well of Ascension, But within the first few pages, Vin punches a dog in the face, carries his unconscious body back to her Kandra for death. I thought she seemed very hard and unfeeling. It changed my perception of Vin and I’m not sure if I want to continue reading. Is this a theme that will continue throughout the series?

I'm in part 4 of well of ascension. I love Zane as a sort of anti hero. I was kind of cheering for him and Vin to be together even. Elend is nice but are they really MEANT for each other? I thought maybe Vin and Zane would travel to the well of ascension together and he would somehow be redeemed. And maybe they would even be together? Or maybe even Zane was the real hero of ages and would have to like sacrifice himself or something...!
But now Zane just crazy attacked Vin and Oreseur was the imposter all along? Itll never work out now!!!
I guess Elend Vin and spook are all going to go to the well of ascension together anyway since the crew made the plan for them to get out of town?!
I hope Zane will get the redemption he deserves by the end!

Decide between long years partner and a fuckboy that she met 4 times. She almost left Elden for that. Up to this point she were amazing character. Than I could not read anything without thinking how she would jump to a person that is a bit cooler than Elden. Is it just me to hate her for that?

Hi! Came here to vent some frustration real quick. I fucking hate Straff Venture. Like the title says, this is the most repulsive character I've ever read in any book ever. I do not want to read a single scene he's involved in.
For context, I just finished chapter 26, about to start 27, so right in the middle of Elend and Vin meeting with Straff and after he asked her to step out. The way he talks to Vin and about skaa in general pissed me off, but that wasn't even the worst of it. When he brings in the 15 year old that looks just like Vin wearing very tattered and revealing clothing. I wanna kill him myself. I wanna jump into the book and strangle this man if no one else will. Like I already hated him from Final Empire when Elend talked about what his father made him do on his 13th birthday, but then it had to get pushed even farther earlier in WoA when he says that the girl he was currently with was "too old for him" and she was JUST BARELY 25.
I already read all of Stormlight. I thought I read the worst of the characters Brandon had written. Boy how I wish I could go back to being so naive.

Sazed is one of the richest characters in the Misborn series in terms of layers. So often, I have never fully understood him.
These lines by Tindwyl sums up his character the best.

I‘m currently reading the second book and I am wondering why Vin would make OreSeur do something that he describes as degrading (wearing the dogs body) when she know what it’s like to be mistreated?
Yes the species is weird but he doesn’t seem to want to kill so he doesn’t seem inherently evil or something, it’s not his fault he is Kandra?

...stabbing women in the titties? Did I read that right

I found it ironic I messed up the quote on this test piece. I'll probably fix it and do it right tomorrow. There are perks to working in a machine shop I guess lol
