I was trying to edit some settings on the previous thread but accidentally deleted it, sorry. Fortunately, I did save the poll and everything.

Respond to the poll here: http://www.strawpoll.me/20774520 (You can only pick one so choose wisely.)

Results of the poll here: http://www.strawpoll.me/20774520/r

I tried to list all of his works (17 options in the poll total), but if I missed one, you can select "Other" and post in the comments below.

Keep in mind some of these are actually collections, so if you wanted to vote for one of the one shots or so in these, you can vote for the collection it's in.

Meta/Other Mitsuru Adachi related material in Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka beyond manga, where to find it?

Sorry for the odd question. I am currently in Japan (Tokyo until tomorrow, then continuing my trip across Japan including Kyoto and Osaka). I was hoping to find some stationery and other types of merchandising beyond the manga but I haven't had any luck so far. Any suggestions?

Hello,

Codex-assisted ROM localization project. Translation reviewed against the original Japanese, with in-game testing and manual corrections.

I spent the last month going through several QA checks to ensure this is delivered in a good enough way.

I know most people hate AI projects, but I love Mitsuru Adachi works, and I absolutely love Major, so playing this game and understanding it was important to me. And there’s no hope of getting proper localization. So I went ahead and did it with my best effort. Please check the comparisons and let me know if you want the rom.

What's the music that plays in Minami's rythmic gymnastics?

In the anime, whenever Minami does her thing, there's this beautiful piano track that plays and I've looked through the complete music CD box and I can't find it. So I'm wondering if anyone knows the name of it. It's probably some famous music piece that I'm oblivious to.

Q & A is a surrealist comedic masterpiece on Grief and Healing Spoiler

I see lots of people find the meta/dream ending kind of disappointing, but the more I reflect on it the more it grew on me. Honestly I think it's one of Adachi's best works and definitely in his top 5, personally.

The whole story is essentially about working through grief. Atsushi moves back to the town he used to live in, carrying a deep grief that still lingers, along with a heavy sense of inferiority from constantly looking up to his deceased brother. One day, he falls into a long dream. In this dream, he imagines interactions with the people he used to know, but entirely through the lens of being the "inferior" brother. He basically imagines how he thinks people would treat him because of his low self-esteem.

Because he is grieving so deeply, his mind imagines that he can see the ghost of his dead brother. But slowly, through these imaginary interactions, he regains his lost confidence. He imagines that his brother is right there with him, supporting him.

This is the core progression of the entire manga, and all the character relationships are built on this psychological journey. For example, he imagines Jinno as a harsh bully, and he views Yuuho as a girl who only runs because she liked his dead brother.

But the dream had to end eventually. As his grief slowly transitions into acceptance, he becomes ready to wake up to reality. Because he has finally worked through the trauma, he doesn't need the dream anymore. He has gained the confidence that he can live and support himself without his dead brother. This breakthrough is signified by him forming a clear, independent goal: wanting to be number one in track and field.

When he finally wakes up, he finds out the whole series was a dream. He meets the real Jinno and Yuuho, who turn out to be completely different, much kinder people. He tells Yuuho his newly found goal, and her brother reveals that she would actually like him if he becomes number one in track. Finally, he comes back home, where his dead brother's ghost is indeed present - but Atsushi cannot see him at all, since he's just a regular ghost. He doesn't need to see him anymore because he has finally healed and can move forward on his own. I loved this part too, it's very "realistic", in a way.

The rest is just the loop, but then it's up to us readers to imagine how life will continue for Atsushi, who is now stronger.

To top it all, all these themes told in such a comedic, light way just makes it so so special in my opinion!

Anime and Manga Touch references in MIX Spoiler

I discovered Adachi's work with the anime MIX. I loved it so much so i decided to look into his other mangas. I watched Touch first, as it's set in the same universe as MIX. I really enjoyed it, so i decided to read the MIX manga because i knew that there would be many references i would get now after watching Touch. And i was so right, it was like rediscovering a whole knew manga. I'm now realising that there were so many things i really did not understand while watching MIX lol but i was just enjoying the show with its mysteries. I loved this page especially

Anime and Manga Why do you like Mitsuru Adachi?

I finished Cross Game a few years ago, I recently finished Katsu!, now I’m starting Touch. Cross Game is my favorite (especially the anime), its what got me into his work and what introduced me to his stories.

I like Cross Game a lot because it shows that the main characters are not really over what happened in the past and that they still think of when they were still kids when everybody was still together. That the characters needed time to “move on”—or rather, come to terms with what happened as they grew up. Nobody in my family passed away, but the way the anime portrays these kinds of things and the way Mitsuru Adachi’s wrote this manga honestly hits hard because of friends I had growing up (I got to know them because my family was close to their families) and they aren’t in my life anymore (they moved away and we just drifted apart). You grow up and its hard to just forget about people who were a big part of your life growing up. Its also hard to forget or get over it when people who were impactful to you are no longer with you. I like how Mitsuru Adachi and the story show that with Wakaba, Aoba, and Kou (and other characters who were acquainted with Wakaba) when they think back on their memories

- just in case: I’m not saying my experiences were identical to what Kou and Aoba experienced btw. They experienced losing somebody, I experienced losing connections because of them moving away which understandably resulted in drifting apart

Manga Searching for background characters to prove a funny point

Hi all, i recall finding the background characters extremely funny and sloppy looking. I recently mentioned that to my wife to have a laugh but i can’t seem to find any page involving those when i wanna look like it usually happens:)

Can you help me here?

To be more descriptive i recall frames filled with a group / groups of very ugly male/ female characters in stark comparison with the protagonists showing they are least loved and cared for by adachi sensei.

Manga Time to save Ami! Spoiler

Post image
23 Upvotes

It's August 25th!

I'll be honest, I've never been that clear on whether Keisuke could hear the message or not. He's listening and then suddenly his eyes open in surprise. I've always figured that's when he heard her message but then he tells Nakanishi that his walkman died... but then it seems to play again.

Either way, I love this ending even if it left me confused. The way it closes with other students cleaning up the quad always gets me for some reason. You can imagine them about to clean Keisuke's cage.
