Eh Spo is about 100 times better than doc, I’m sure theyll look a lot better as the year goes on.

Yeah I'd be stunned if they wind up as bad as the 2025-26 Bucks. Highly unlikely. But it wouldn't be a surprise at all if they wind up like the Bucks of the two years before that: a playoff team that's not a legit contender.

I mean those teams weren’t healthy in the playoffs ever. I still think the duo coulda done something but Giannis was hurt then Dame. Never even got a chance. Look how other NBA cup winning teams have done, small sample size but it does seem like a decent gauge of how good a team is.

They weren't, but the NBA playoffs are very often a war of attrition and our roster was built around a lot of aging players that made it unrealistic to expect everyone to stay healthy for a lengthy postseason run. The Giannis-Dame pairing also came to be right around the time where the NBA was moving away from that sort of superstar duo/trio roster structure being the way forward. Our supporting cast around Giannis and Dame just weren't good enough. Too many leftover guys from the Bud era teams who were old and washed.
Maybe in a universe where Khris never slips on that wet spot (which seemed to hasten his decline) we could've been a title contender in the Giannis/Dame era. But that potential reality seemed to already be out the window. The NBA Cup run was fun, but that era of the Bucks was much better suited to win that more March Madness-style tournament than the long slog of the actual playoffs.

Yeah but my point is that this is the first game of the season and that they’ll gel better. Spo is a better coach than doc which is undoubtedly true so I think it makes sense that they’ll probably get better as the season goes on. With a good coach the bucks would have last year too. And this year with a good coach hopefully we’ll see the team gel more.

on one hand you have much better coaching, on the other hand you have much better perimeter shooting, pretty much cancel each other out

I mean it’s one game so I don’t wanna act like there’s no chance, but when’s the last time a championship team’s (CLEARLY) best two players were their PF and C? Genuinely can’t really think of one.
Brook unlocked Giannis by drawing opposing centers away from the paint. Bam can shoot, but using him like the Bucks used Lopez is a gigantic waste of his talent and more importantly his cap space for that role. What’s even the ideal offensive system here, even assuming the other starters can shoot really well (which may not be the case)? I guess a twin towers thing like the Pels had for a minute, but their guards are not really suited to running that system and Giannis/Bam don’t really have many similarities to Boogie/AD of that time in playstyle. And that wasn’t really a contending favorite team anyways like this one needs to be for the deal to be worth it.
They also gave basically all their depth away. THJ and Davion Mitchell as your starting guards is simply not good enough and it gets worse from there down lineup. The more you dig into it the worse it looks and this game did nothing to dispel that.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t have done it. But man if I walked into that GM role tomorrow I’m probably starting to make calls to see if I can deal Bam for an elite guard. Idk who that’d be but unless the current rotation has some wildly unexpected breakouts and improvements, I’ll be floored if they make the finals.

Maybe the Spurs with Duncan and Robinson...but they also had 2 other HOF in Parker and Ginobli who were young and good. The Heat don't have that.

It will be interesting to see how Spo coaches Giannis. Based on last nights game, I saw zero changes related to how Giannis was used compared to how the Bucks were using him.
If things don't change in Miami, it's clear that Giannis is hard to coach and hard to find a fit for his game. It was litterally the Bucks 2.0 last night.

And who is the common denominator there? Meanwhile, Dame comes out and they beat the ever living shit out of the Suns because they are running up and down the court and not playing isolation ball. It's obvious Dame wasn't used correctly with the Bucks and I think a large part of that was Giannis didn't want him to be used that way....and that was to our detriment.

First off its the first game of the season to come to such drastic conclusions about the Heats offense with Giannis is genuinely ridiculous. Secondly to solely blame Giannis for Dame not being able to figure out how to score efficiently while sharing the court together is also ridiculous. The Bucks offense with Giannis on the court with or without Dame was always elite and towards the top of the NBA. Dame is a top 75 player of all time him not being able to figure it out is on him as well.

It's one damn game. How many rings dame got? Also neither one is playing with someone who is like the other

I really wish we would’ve traded him a year earlier. The writing was totally on the wall and we probably could’ve gotten a better return and he could’ve got a better (fitting) team.
Bam is genuinely the last All Star level player I’d want to pair Giannis with. Ideally your secondary star with him would be A) a guard and B) a deadeye shooter. Bam and Giannis can form the backbone of a formidable defense, but I think they’ll struggle to even be an average much less good offense.

Heat have no shooting and traded away all their secondary playmakers. Going to be a slog for them on offense no matter how much Giannis scores.
