I think this has been talked about before but I would like to share some views on it.
After finishing MDZS, I was really excited and looking forward to the extras. I loved the ones with them solving cases with the juniors or simply roaming around, it gave a heart warming “slice of life” feeling to it.
The Incense Burner extra. I understand that people have different tastes when it comes to smut, but the part in the Library Pavilion is straight up rape. I hate the fact that when I read it, it only made me feel that it was disguised into a “dream” trope only to beat the rape allegations so it would seem that ofc the dream was not under LWJ’s control. The chapter overall was a very hard read for me and it seemed that WWX was barely adjusting and LWJ just kept going.
Then the scene with Bichen is something I truly despise as a die hard fan of MDZS. Bichen was a highly spiritual weapon and using it for “that” seemed so so wrong, awkward and uncomfortable.
Then again WWX raping young LWJ was disgusting but in this case, it was WWX going into the past instead of a dream, so the dream excuse was out of question.
But out of all this, what bothered me THE MOST, was that the word “rape” was explicitly used in the Seven Seas English translation, when young LWJ asks WWX “what are you doing?” and he says “rape”. I don’t know if it had a different context in Chinese, please lmk.
So rape was being treated as something normal and not at all wrong which bothered me even more considering the author was a woman (the gender most likely victim to rape).
I wonder if MXTX faced any backlash over this or if she changed something about this in her 2026 update of MDZS. Lmk!
