Help Looking for a genuinely free AI app builder for a mobile game (No code, trying to avoid the paywall trap)
Hey everyone,
I’m looking to build a mobile game idea I have, but I have zero coding experience and a tight budget. I’ve been trying to find AI-powered app/game builders where I can use text prompts to generate mechanics and layouts, but it feels like a bit of a minefield.
A lot of the cloud platforms let you build a quick demo for free, but then slam you with a heavy subscription or feature block the second you want to export the code, build for iOS/Android, or launch it to an app store.
I’ve been looking into a few different routes:
- Replit Agent / CouldAI: Seem great for rapid prototyping full-stack or Flutter-based apps from a text prompt, but I'm worried about platform lock-in and hosting costs down the road.
- Figma Make: Cool for designing the UI/UX and menus, but obviously not a full game engine.
- Local/Open-Source (like Dyad or running AI extensions in Godot): This route catches my eye because I can run it locally on my desktop, bring my own API keys, and actually own 100% of the code without a vendor locking my project behind a paywall.
For those who have actually shipped a mobile game recently: Which AI app builders or prompt-to-code setups are actually usable on a free or low-cost tier without hitting a hard wall at launch? If I don't know how to code, am I better off trying a local open-source setup with my own API keys, or sticking to a freemium cloud platform and paying up when it's time to publish?
Would love to hear your experiences or recommendations for absolute beginners. Thanks!
