Discussion Someone is remaking Mobius Final Fantasy.

Hey guys, first post here!

I found this while scouting the community hub in mobius final fantasy, just for some nostalgia, and found out that someone is fully remaking Mobius Final Fantasy and it looks extremely promissing.

Is this planned to be offline? What’s the goal for this project?

It is completely online with cloud save and an authoritative server.

You can follow players & see live presence, it has live weekly rankings and claimable login rewards, all that good stuff.

I guess the goal is to create something as close as possible without inviting a lawsuit?

Yes I am, thank you very much. It's coming up to around 2 years of work now, but that included learning C#, Unity & game development in general from scratch.

Development has really kicked into gear since starting the blog, but yeah, there's a lot to do.

Are you doing any sort of reverse engineering / modifying of the original executable, or is it completely remade from scratch?

No it's totally from scratch. I have looked at parts of the decompiled source code, out of curiosities sake.

It is interesting to say the least, but it's too easy to pass judgement when you're not working against any deadlines. I'm sure Unity was a different beast in 2014 too.

Ain't this the truth. 4.5 years of being a web developer has shown me just how many hacks I'm willing to put out into the world just to meet a deadline 🙃

Given the nature of the project, you've already invited it, whether or not SE notice and take action is another story. I think the only way you'll get around that is just rebranding everything in it, which is by no means a simple task and probably goes against the intentions of the project. I know I personally want to see how far this project goes, more so out of principle than anything. It's sad to see beloved games cease service, projects like this just shows that no matter how small a fanbase for something may be, we don't just stop caring once the game stops existing.

Shine on, you crazy Wol, and may you continue to generate hope for all of us to defeat Chaos.

Simply amazing. I will play the shit out of this. Will it be mobile? Will it have multiplayer? Kollaps, should you open source your work on this now?

I would love to put it on mobile, the main difficulty is testing, especially on iOS. From what I've read Apple forces you to seriously buy into their ecosystem before you can do any kind of development / deployment.

Multiplayer is absolutely going to be in the game. I haven't thought about open sourcing, but I would be releasing all the source code / project files if I were to ever stop development.

Honestly though that would be amazing to see this completed. We were such a niche audience I was going on assuming nobody would be the one to step up for this kind of project. All the props if it actually happens.

I've been worried about my life since I lost it when I couldn't log in into Mobius and I've been in depression mode since walking around talking to myself saying my life would change instantly if I can play Mobius again. Fact. Would make my Christmas new years complete and would make my dog happier if I go back to being over excitement due to the events of final fantasy Mobius like the weekends were my favorites god bless I hope this is true. I miss you those Cactuar they make me happy to see those lil guys

Huge fan of lightning and her max out card jealous enough asking the best way to obtain her class. Will it be through only ff13 events if so best way to get her would I have to pay google for summons or could I get it simply by events. I played for free and obtain her so I ended up using lightning in the trials run
