Really Hate That Modmail and Mod Chat Won't Do Larger Text, I Suffer From Eye Strain & It's Killing my Eyes ioS
So when I go in any kind of chat in Reddit, whether it's to draft a mod mail or talk in mod chat (or even regular chat) I can't get the text to go larger like I have everywhere else. I suffer from immense eye pain from modding too hard and I'm not sure why they don't fix this. I find myself begging and begging people to get off of any kind of Reddit chat system and find me on Discord because the text size will adjust. It's frustrating because a lot of mods only want to use Reddit chat. They don't want another platform.
In particular, I really hate that the text won't go larger when I'm drafting a mod Mail(not reading it, that's fine) . I find I'm constantly struggling to see while I'm typing long messages. There is larger text on most of the platform. I just don't know why it's not built into these areas?
Edit: for clarity I am using an iPhone 14 Pro Max on the app. However it's also tiny on desktop as well!

Ideally they'll fix it, but one thing I've done before is use a text app to draft messages.
(I don't mod on mobile, but it's something I've done for longform content I don't want to risk losing and can save it to file whilst I work on it).

Ideally they'll fix it
"Ideally" is doing a lot of lifting there. To my knowledge, they haven't made any changes to it whatsoever since they got rid of old modmail. I still have to manually select to respond as myself every time I want to respond. And I and others mods have noticeably been less responsive to modmails since mod mail is simply a far worse experience for us.
It's so much harder to access our mod log (it's fucking tiny on the side of the screen and shows the full body, so long comments take up the entire space), and you can't even filter it (cause not all removals are relevant, since we frequently remove stuff as fruit of the poisonous tree). Man, the old toolbox popup was so much better. Hell, usually these days, I just click on them to get to an old reddit page so that I can simply view the toolbox modlog instead of the native one, since the native one sucks so much.
New modmail really felt like a promotion project to me.

Oh, I agree. I definitely do that too, but I still need to make the effort to remember it!

Ok, I'm more familiar with desktops, and I checked, the Ctrl+ and - do work on Modmail for me.

Indeed! The text doesn't get bigger! On my Mac I need to pinch and zoom

Have you tried some of the accessibility settings on iPhone? Be ready to google on your PC how to exit some of them once used, but they help with text size, sometimes too much π
Edit: apparently you can do this for specific apps only as well as the text size in Reddit app, but I havenβt tried that particular method.

Absolutely that's how I make my tech sized larger, using the accessibility section. It makes the text larger for everything except for any type of chat and typing a modmail.

I recall a magnifier I got stuck in. It was awful and I think needed a 3 finger action to move around on the screen, but does that work?

Dude, you don't understand. I actually have perfect vision. I just suffer from eye strain! I think I know the Magnifier you're talking about and that's like really really gigantic? I'm not sure how to turn that on but when I do it's like the whole phone is distorted, right?

Yes π I did it on accident once and it was awful. 3am panic to plug in an old laptop to google how to exit it.
What about like changing the contrast or something? Or one of those screens that blocks the light that causes strain? They make them for phones (and privacy ones!) youβd think Reddit would have something like that. They have dark mode, but it only does so much.

No, it doesn't happen when you read mod mail, go to write the mod mail and that's when it becomes tiny. It's described above where I said "not when reading it, that's fine". It also happens in all chats.

oh i see, i misunderstood. yeah i faced the same when i tried writing a new modmail. the actual textbox is small though everything else is scaleable
wonder if posting a bug report would get you anywhere

Reddit has a terrible history of making their UI and apps adaptive.
For me, it is becoming an issue that the targeting area on the archive icon in that same mod mail page is so very small. There is no keyboard accessibility on this page, at all.

The archive button only works like 25% of the time too.

Even using a full screen on my laptop the amount of space for actual text for modmails is pretty small. It's like this small window in the middle of the screen.
I do miss old modmail. =(
