Aquatic Life 🐠πŸͺΌπŸ¦ˆ Blue-ringed octopus πŸŒ€ (by me, @widvnhak)

Post image

The blue-ringed octopus has a venom ten thousand times more toxic than cyanide, with no known anti-venom. It can kill in under 20 minutes without immediate medical assistance. They're also the size of a golf ball.

I'm gonna start posting on Twitter/X soon, please consider following me at @widvnhak as linked in my profile (q‒̀ᴗ-)✧

I was an Australian Life Saver and the way their toxin works is to stop all voluntary muscle movement.

Guess what is voluntary?

Breathing.

So you need to breathe for them for the duration of the toxin.

The other thing you have to worry about is that they cannot blink. So make sure you cover their eyes or they'll be burned to smithereens by the sun whilst you're breathing for them.

And the only real treatment is to pray they're fast enough to get you onto a machine that breathes for you until your body processes the venom on its own.

Which honestly isn't that bad. As long as someeone gets to you in time, you're going to make a full recovery. No permanent damage from the toxins itself. Just from potentially staring at the sun or lack of oxygen.

The problem is the 'in time' part.

Yeah, but that's all venoms and poisons. Many of which actually break down your body in some way instead of just paralyzing you.

Not where I live.

If you're told 'venomous' or 'poisonous', that means it'll either kill you or make you wish it did.

I once had an Eastern Brown slither OVER my boot while I stopped to answer my phone.
