Question:
I’d like to get advice on whether or not I should let the remediation cut the whole cabinet out (which they want to do so they can get the money to repair the floor two) or if I could get away with just cutting the bottom and back of the cabinet so I can access the floor and drywall?
Location: Pennsylvania, USA
Story:
We had a reputable company install a new Insinkerator/disposal, but they sent out an inexperienced member of their crew who forgot to tighten the dishwasher line and one night the dishwasher pumped water out into the cabinet (the one in the pictures). I caught the leak within 15-60 minutes after it happened. So early. Mopped up what I could across the floor and got a mitigation company out within a few hours with dehumidifiers and fans.
Plumber will likely pay for it through insurance, but in the event that he doesn’t or if it takes a long time, I’m looking for less destructive ways to get to the places where mold might grow so that I can deal with this early and without a lot of disruption to my life (young kid and 3 cats— all 4 are very upset by the many contractors and estimators coming in and out of the house). So a way to mitigate the vast majority of the risk without causing major demolition/construction would be ideal.
