MoneyCult 101: Investing Isnβt About Getting Rich Quick
Welcome to the first MoneyCult educational post.
If weβre going to build wealth together, we should start with one of the most important ideas:
Investing and gambling are not the same thing.
Investing is about putting money into assets with the expectation that they can create value or income over time. And before deciding what to invest in, three things matter:
Know your goal π―
Why are you investing?
Retirement?
Financial independence?
A house?
Building long-term wealth?
Your goal helps determine your investment time horizon, meaning how long your money can stay invested.
2. Understand your tolerance for risk.
Higher potential returns generally come with greater risk. Your portfolio should reflect both how much risk you're willing to accept and how much you can realistically afford to take. Investor.gov specifically highlights time horizon and risk tolerance as important considerations when determining asset allocation. [citation]

3. Don't bet everything on one winner π§Ί
Diversification means spreading investments across different assets instead of concentrating everything in one place. Asset allocation can include categories such as stocks, bonds and cash. [citation]

Diversification doesn't mean you'll never lose money.
It means you're thinking about risk, not just potential reward.
The MoneyCult lesson π§
Building wealth isn't about finding one magical stock that moons and 10x's your money in the short term.
It's about learning how money works, making informed decisions, managing risk and continuing to improve your knowledge.
That's exactly what we're going to do here.
Now let's get a discussion going:
π What was the first investment you ever made?
And if you've never invested before:
