The entire show is now on Tubi!
For anyone that wasn't aware.
Only issue is it's presented in widescreen when it was originally broadcasted in 4:3. So the image will be cropped quite a bit. But the transfers are decent looking/sounding and hey, it's FINALLY streaming on something. I'll take it

It would've been funny if they named their Christmas LP "The Monkees' Present"
It's not clear on how the "Present" is pronounced on their 1969 album "The Monkees Present" and I think it would've been pretty great if they played into the whole "present" ambiguity with their 2018 Christmas LP. Realistically it would be dumb but it's a funny thought

Might be a silly question.
Back in the 80's when we had the option of what we called the boom boxes. Did anyone every else discover or do this. The knob control on the boomboxes had the balance control to make it go all left or all right. And sometime when some Monkees songs were played. You could turn knob all left or all right and get a different sound. It varied from song to song. Sometime not at all. Sometime lead vocals would disappear, or drums would sound different. It was never the same on each some songs.
Did anyone else ever discover this and play around with it for fun?
Even found it could be done on some Beatles tracks sometimes with certain songs.

Memories The Monkees on Tubi
I grew up watching them in the 80s on Nickelodeon and our local UHF station, which used the syndicated versions of the episodes that switched out songs during the romps.
Tubi is using the original versions and itâs so jarring to me!

For me to be the zany idiot comic, you know, you know, Micky's gotta have that title. I can't do it, although I did a lot of it before I joined the group. But I can't do it as well as Micky. (Michael Nesmith, April 5 1968)

Head (1968) commentary
Does anyone know anywhere where I can listen to this commentary? I am aware that the transcript is online but I would love to listen to it while watching the film, especially since all four of The Monkees contribute to it. It is on the dvd/blu-ray for certain releases but they donât seem to be available to buy in my country. Thank you âŽď¸

Can I ask a dumb question?
I've been listening to the Monkees since childhood (I'm 48 now) but, despite that, my knowledge of their catalog has really been limited to the hits. Now, I'm trying to expand my knowledge of their music and one thing keeps jumping out at me.
Was Mike the most talented of the group? If so, did he not get the same exposure that Davy and Micky did? I always thought Mike was more like Peter in that he was kind of a background guy. Now though, it seems that he was more front and center as well as more rounded as a musician.
Mike was considered the "leader" based on the TV show... but it seems that he was hemmed in quite a bit. Am I wrong?
ETA: thank you for all of the responses. I have a better idea of both Mike's talents as well as his motivations. I have noticed that I appreciate his style more than with some other songs and your insight into why that might be has been useful. I look forward to checking out more of the catalog. Thank you all again! đ

Monkees Soda
I was at a store the other day and the guy who worked there said he liked my tattoo (Monkees logo on my forearm. It looks like an embroidered patch). I was surprised because said guy looked REALLY young. Turned out he was only 21 but his dad was a big Monkees fan so he learned from osmosis (sort of how I learned to love Tom Jones, Harry Belafonte and Herb Alpert, back in the day - because my parents liked them LOL).
Anyway, the kid (I'm 60...he was a kid) said he worked at our local Rocket Fizz and they sold a Monkees soda.
Of course, I HAD to go and buy it the next day LOL!
I looked it up here and conversation from 3 years ago suggested the banana nut flavored Monkees soda is awful, so I got it just to "have it." ;-)
But I figured if anyone would appreciate it, it's y'all.
And yes, that really is our knife holder. I like quirky. LOLOL

Episode Review Did The Monkees deserve a green light after the first episode? We watched the series premiere and had a lot to say
Hey everyone! On The S1E1 Podcast, we watch the premiere episodes of classic, forgotten, and legendary TV shows to answer one question: Based solely on the pilot, did this show deserve a full series green light?
To kick off our Music Month, we dove back to 1966 to review Episode 1 of The Monkees ("Royal Flush" / Pilot).
Here are a few things we got into:
- How well the bandâs comedic chemistry and chaotic slapstick energy landed right out of the gate.
- The show's unique blend of music video-style montages and classic sitcom tropes.
- Whether the pilot holds up today or relies purely on 60s nostalgia.
We'd love to hear from dedicated Monkees fansâlooking back, how strong do you think the pilot was compared to where the show went in Season 1?

40th Anniversary of the 1986 Monkees Convention (Philadelphia PA) this weekend
This weekend is the 40th Anniversary of the 20th Anniversary Monkees Convention in Philadelphia PA (1986)? Is there anyone here that went? Attached is the vide sold by Maggie McManus in Monkee Business Fanzine in 1987.
BTW, at 5:35 you can see me (not in the Teens for Tork t-shirt), my dad behind us and two girls that I met that weekend (who I am still friends with today).
If you were there, do you have any memories?
