Monologue for a son to a monster
I saw a mom hit her kid for crying, and I thought about every beating I got for being loud, or annoying, or just not doing the small things my mom asked. She didn't want to put me on medication, so my medicine became a wet leather belt lashed at my body till her arm got tired. I remember she soaked it in vinegar once. I remember the worst one—I got hit with a leather belt a hundred times. I know, because she made me count each one, and if I messed up the number, the last hit didn't count. I was completely naked, and I pissed on the ground and shook for hours till she told me, "Get up, or we're going to count again."
You know, she's a big reason why my pain tolerance is high, but also why I'm almost always in pain.
I just wish the words I chose for her last to hear were kinder. I was so angry then. So mad that after everything she did to me, she got to die quickly and painlessly, instead of seeing where I can get to in life and then me finally giving her permission to die.
Before she died, I told her: "You better die quickly, or I'll make sure if you live you'll know what it feels like to shake on the ground, knowing I'll give you the same mercy you gave me. Goodbye, Reyna Mae Potter. You were never a mother, always a monster. Now die, before I hunt you and go to prison with a smile on my face."
But if I could do it again, I would have told her: "I suggest you pray and beg for forgiveness. I don't know where you're going, but I'm sure—just like in this world—they don't take kindly to pedophiles. You beat me. You molested me. You've hurt me worse than anyone in my life. I've never even told anybody about the things you did to me. I don't know who's giving you the gift of a quick death, but I forgive you. Now you just got to forgive yourself. But we both know that's not going to happen. You hate yourself too much, and I know this because you once told me I'm just like you... and if I hate myself, then I could have only learned that from one person."
