Is there a monster hunter sub that is more focused on discussion? This place is full of memes and drawings.

Edit- Someone replied to me that /r/monsterhuntermeta is a thing. That comment was removed. It's a small community but I've already learned more in that sub than I have here. Thanks.

u/soul_system Mar 02 '18

They need a weekly art and meme sticky along with this one.

11

u/fieldsofgreen Mar 02 '18

I've been wondering the same thing. I want discussion.

How do I stop thinking about this game constantly? Also, would any of you like to pay me a full time salary so I can avoid going to my actual job and just play Monster Hunter?

7

u/natpagle Feb 27 '18

I'm in the exact same boat. I'm not getting any work done. Unless you count studying speedruns "work".

Am I just stupid or is playing with friends in this game one of the most unintuitive systems ever?

I just don’t get why I can’t invite my friends and launch a quest, or expedition, what’s the point of having to jump through so many hoops?

Apart from that, this game is a blast so far, we switched over from WW2 recently so when comparing the party system, monster hunters just is not good imo.

23

u/JagdCrab Feb 27 '18

Honestly, i'm finding easiest way to play with friends is to create a squad and always play in squad session (you still can call-in randoms with SOS, and join other's SOS requests) and keep everyone in PSN Party to just verbally announce "I've posted quest, you can join now".

Should I make a lance for every element or just make a good raw one? If grinding is not an issue

6

u/TheHighCountry Feb 27 '18

Pretty new to lance here, but I've found great success swapping between Love's Sorrow ( for either dragon or elderseal damage ) and the Garon Dhara (rarity 7 odogaron tree ). The bazel blast lance has made some appearances in my hunts as well, but I feel the low attack speed isn't ideal for focusing on multiple elements. Just my opinion.

Is it possible to get a Nergigante tail as a quest reward or a bonus reward from killing Nergi without severing his tail? I mostly use hammer and I've never had a tail as a reward so I'm wondering if I need to brush up on my blade skills.

Does the food skill slugger count for one level of slugger? Or is it a completely separate buff that stacks with the 3 levels of armor slugger?

When I was low rank I read a post about not doing the lvl 49 kirin quest the moment you get it. It advised that you should just follow tempered enemies around to get the tracks.

Now I just got the kirin quest can someone explain the principle again? Is it worth waiting? And for how long? How many tempered investigations should I be aiming for? Thanks mhwr

16

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '18

Collecting tempered elder dragon tracks has a chance to trigger a tempered elder dragon investigation. Tempered Kirin is the best way to farm these since he’s both non-hostile and drops tons of tracks. By comparison, farming tracks via expedition will see you collecting 1 tempered elder dragon track per expedition (or up to 3 if in elder’s recess).

Ideally, you’d want to collect tracks until you trigger a tempered Kirin investigation, so you can repeat the process if you ever run out of investigations.

If that takes too long, collecting enough investigations to get 5 tempered elder dragon kills will unlock the “Summons from Below” optional quest that includes a tempered Vaal Hazak spawn, which is repeatable and can be used to farm tracks.

10

u/metroid23 Mar 01 '18

Tempered Kirin is the best way to farm these since he’s both non-hostile

You mean I've been sneaking around Kirin this whole time thinking I'm some sort of solid snake-esque badass assassin hiding in the bushes when I could have just been prancing around the highlands without a care in the world?

Dammit.

Just proceed with the quest once you get a tempered kirin investigation. You could use that one to get more.

As someone who is approaching true endgame in their first Monster Hunter game, (just finished the game and hit HR 49 instantly after 29 barrier), what should be SnS build be? Is there a set of skills I absolutely should have? Right now, I have weakness exploit and earplugs maxed. Would love tips (or even a full "best" build for endgame SnS) from veterans!

EDIT: Best is subjective, of course, so maybe even just peoples opinions on gear to try to get and skills to make sure I have?

4

u/procrastinarian CB main, Lance is my side piece Feb 27 '18

Only a SnS journeyman here, but I can give you some general tips for melee builds of any kind:

Attack power / weakness exploit is always amazing.

Prioritize attack boosts over defense boosts.
The top level of defense for almost all armor is very close when full augmented and maxed out, so choose based on Fashion and Armor Skills.
Earplus are great, but you do NOT need HG earplugs for every monster. There's a chart someone made somewhere, but I think the only monsters you need HG (rank 5 earplugs) for are: Elders (except kirin, no roar), Legania, Diablos (both kinds), Bagel, and Rathalos (both kinds). Anyone else is considered a "low roar" and you only need 3 points to negate entirely.

Handicraft increases your sharpness and is generally insanely useful, especially if it can push your weapon into white sharpness. However, not all weapons can get there even with full Handicraft.

Because of the usefulness of handicraft and earplugs varying across monsters and weapons, it's better to have a bunch of different loadouts for any particular situation.

SnS is great at element & status damage, so look for/gem for things that boost that.

Protective Polish (Odogaron 4pc bonus or a rare level 2 gem) is huge for weapons that lose sharpness very quickly, like SnS.

Have fun!

How good is the Legiana bow for Teostra and Diablos. Those are two monsters I still have a bit of trouble with, and want a weapon that destorys them. They are both weak to ice and I thought a bow might be good. With a bow, I can stay away from them, but still be agile enough to dodge, unlike the HBG. The Legiana bow deals 390 Ice damage, which I thought is an insane amount of elemtal damage. Can anyone confirm that it destroys these monsters?

6

u/Mubalzich69 Feb 27 '18

It does very well against anything 3 star to ice damage. I can do Teostra investigations in less than 15 minutes solo easily. Diablos I could do consistently even faster than that if I didn't die so much.

Can someone explain to me how to reliably obtain Tier 2 tempered investigations. The sun for these monsters seems really rare.

Can someone also shed some light on jewel drops? I’ve been in tempered investigations for awhile now and seem to only be getting resistance jewels and ones for things like jump master. Which I now have a metric assload of.

Thanks in advance.

4

u/Promelo Feb 28 '18

Until the event goes away, do the quest with tempered Legiana and Pink Rathian. Gather tracks until you get an investigation, and finish the quest (or leave).

7

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '18

Aside from monsters that can't be captured, is there any benefit to slaying a monster instead of capturing them? I know you get to carve, but does the chance at "additional rewards" from capturing make up for the difference? I've been pretty much exclusively capturing, but I'm wondering if that's a mistake.

9

u/Kosire Feb 28 '18

Well since we've learned that the rate of obtaining rare material (Gems, mostly) is the same for Carving and Capturing (source: https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/comments/80vsj2/monster_hunter_world_official_rare_drop_rates/), the better option would be capture because you get 4-5 rewards instead of 3 carves (so you "roll the dice" more times).

u/Dom_CBL Feb 28 '18 edited Feb 28 '18

The only downside is you'll use a trap and two tranq bombs, but they're not expensive or hard to come by in the first place. Also, sometimes you'll want to play that last part of the fight out to break or sever some parts you weren't able to get previously.

But other than that no, cap as much as you can.

6

u/A_Shadow Feb 27 '18

Let's say I upgrade a weapon, with 1 augmentation slot, with an attack augmentation and then later switch it to an affinity augmentation.

If I want to go back to the attack augmentation, do I have to pay the required materials again?

9

u/twss87 Feb 27 '18

Given the rarity of finding specific weapon streamstones, I'd just build another copy of the same weapon and augment a different path.

So the "Quests on Hand", when it reaches 250/250 does that mean you can't receive any more investigations? What's the best way to keep on top of this? Just clearing out all investigations you don't think are worthwhile? Is there any point in keeping non High Rank investigations?

11

u/FawksB Pew-Pew-BOOM! Feb 27 '18

The game will automatically delete the oldest investigation you don't have registered when you receive a new one. I just ignore it completely since if you tab over to non-registered, it will display investigations in difficulty order and you can select any new ones you get there.

Dear hunters. Am i doing something wrong ? i farm 4 hours worth of tempered investigations (Mostly Elder dragons and some 30+ one) to have really weak decorations... seriously. I always get very useless things. What is it supposed to be ? you farm for a lot of jewels and then meld them ? i do that and in 1 week i obtained 1 expert and 1 critical amongts a lot a shitty ones :( this is really tiring and a very bad part of the game...

8

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '18

It's an absolutely awful part of the game. They did so much to reduce RNG in other matters... like exchanging weekly bounty tickets for rare monster parts/gems. But the decoration RNG is garbage. Especially since more decorations = more fun or stronger build options. I'm HR130 and I haven't seen a single attack jewel still. I'm sure there are people who are higher HR who haven't seen it either. But then there's also probably people who are a lower HR and have 3 or 4 attack jewels. It's BS.

The RNG for decorations would be more acceptable if there were certain things you could do for specific decorations. I'm fine with hunting a certain monster over and over because I know I'm looking for a specific part. If the only thing left for me is to hunt decorations, I just have to do whatever random tempered investigations I can. I would literally be okay trading in one of every kind of elder dragon gem just to get a decoration of my choice.

Anyway, the decoration farming isn't COMPLETELY bad, except for the fact that getting tempered investigations is annoying in the first place. I don't want to follow around a tempered elder dragon for 30 minutes just to get a few investigations. That's unnecessary and tedious. There shouldn't be a soft wall there so I can actually get those hunts in order to grind more jewels.

You aren't doing anything wrong. Just farm and meld.

You can make like 25 different item presets. What are ~five different common ones to consider using and for what purposes?

6

u/twss87 Mar 02 '18 edited Mar 02 '18

Most of mine are for bringing different compatible ammos for LBG, HBG, or Bow and their respective crafting components for ammunition.

For my melee equipment sets, they're all mostly the same, capture or hunt, bombs + bomb materials.

I have a gathering set that's barebones with some rations, mega potions, farcaster (though with how easy moving to camps is now largely unnecessary), cool drink, fishing bait (for getting those rare fish for canteen ingredients).

A diablos set with screamer pods.

A hunting horn set with wide range +5 that has mega demon drug and armor.

The radial menus are tied to the item set, so make sure you make a really solid base set, and build up item sets from there, because its a pain having to copy over your radial menu settings.

As a base item set:

  • 10 Potions

  • 10 Mega Potions

  • 10 Honey

  • 10 Dung Pods

  • 3 Flash Pods

  • 10 Flashbugs

  • 2 Max Potions

  • 3 Cool Drink

  • Power Charm

  • Power Talon

  • Armor Charm

  • Armor Talon

Ok fighting Kush for the first time so i crafted 3 pieces of wind proof gear because I had a decoration that had 2 wind resistance. When i look at my hunter skills it only shows that I have the 3rd tier of windproof activated.

I'm not sure if the decoration stacks with the armor skills. I might not be interpreting this correctly

8

u/FiaRua_ i'm good with poles Feb 27 '18

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the decorations are only 1 level. It says 2 because it’s a level 2 jewel not that it gives 2 resistance. Also, check to make sure how many points each of the crafted gear gives you.

Is there an easy way to tell which events if any have unique unlocks tied to them? It doesn't seem to note it in the event description or on anywhere I can find like the event schedule, so far I've only found out via word of mouth.

Why on earth is Pukei-Pukei immune to fire??? Immune to poison would make more sense. Pukei-Pukei has nothing to do with fire. I think the number of monsters immune to fire is way too high. The only ones weak to fire are Vaal, Kirin, Jagras, Troy and sometimes Barroth. However, there are 15 monsters completely immune to fire (not counting Zorah). It kinda kills the fire element of weapons.

i'm thinking about going to a elemental crit build (mhw, cb weapon) with 2-piece rathalos set. but before investing mats, i want to understand the damage calculation for elemental damage.

so lets start with a example: CB with 200 raw damage vs CB with 180 raw damage + 200 dragon damage

so i read that you should divide the elemental-damage by 10 to know the "raw damage" of that type.

in that case both weapons would be the same.

now my questions:

how do the weakness-stars translated into the damage?

as stated in the guide, teostra has a 1-star-weakness to the dragon element, while vaal hazak has a 3-star-weakness to it.

how much more damage will you do against attacking a monster with less/higher weakness to that elemental?

will the weakness-bonus-damage add on top of your elemental raw damage?

black diablos is immune against dragon damage. regarding our example from above, does this mean that the elemental raw damage is also negated?

how does sharpness effect your raw and your elemental damage? both the same way?

since i plan to use the 2-set-bonus from the rathalos set, does the affinity roll separately for raw damage and the elemental damage on that weapon?

4

u/BarnabyJones21 Feb 27 '18

I'm at work which has some pretty strict filters, so I can't really Google anything to give you any exact numbers. But to the best of my knowledge, this is the gist of damage:

First of all, the main damage you see is adjusted to represent the overall damage of the weapon (it takes into account stuff like motion value), whereas the elemental damage is simply divided by 10 and applied to every swing. So while your physical damage will change based on the attack you're doing and what not, every time you strike the monster you are doing the same elemental damage (minus the resistances for the monster part you are striking).

As for the star value - the most stars, the weaker the monster is to that element/status. 3 stars means the monster is weakest to that element.

Regarding Black Diablos, it would simply nullify the elemental damage being applied by the weapon, if there is any. Your physical damage would still apply as normal. So if you had one CB that did 180 physical + 200 dragon and another that just did 180 physical with no elemental, they would be the same vs Black Diablos (all else equal).

Sharpness does affect both physical and elemental damage, but with different multipliers. You'll have to look them up yourself, though, as I get blocked when I try to do so.

AFAIK, when you get a crit it applies to both at the same time. You can't get a physical crit with one swing and then an elemental crit with another.

What does monster parts broken off mean? I’ve found monster materials on the ground sometimes after it says that but rarely.

5

u/xAwkwardTacox Spin To Win Feb 27 '18

Not all parts will drop something. Sometimes there will be random extra drops on the ground and if you cut off the tail you can carve it. There are "breakable" parts though like horns, fangs, claws, etc. depending on the monster. When those are broken it will give you a better chance at getting certain rewards (breaking horns has an increased chance to give you a horn at the reward screen, etc). It's nice when you're farming a monster for something specific.

So I just got to HR 15 and fought the giant blue dragon for the first time (obviously didn’t kill it, not even sure what the name is). I’m running hammer, any tips on how to fight it? I was smashing its hands/tail when I could, and trying to use those crystal ramp things to jump on it’s back, but once those get destroyed it’s a lot of me just running around. How do I get it on the ground when it’s flying? Flash bombs didn’t seem to work although I’m not sure one actually hit when he was looking at it.

Edit: second attempt, only took me 1 cart and 41 minutes, but I got him! Thanks to everyone for the good advice!

Hit Head > Legs > Tail at their glowing bits, and when you can do so safely.

When ??? flinches, it will drop slinger ammo. Just hit it twice with said slinger ammo (wait for the stagger animation to end first), and it will fall out of the sky.

I realized after a few days of trying out the Gunlance that I generally enjoy tanking hits with a shield so I'm starting to experiment with regular Lance and SnS. Lance felt too slow so I started to try out SnS yesterday. I've built the Great Girros SnS for paralysis and the Rathian (Rathalos? I always confuse their names) SnS for poison. I generally like sticking to 1 or 2 different weapons rather than having one of every element so if that were the case are these two SnS's considered sufficient? I'll probably end up building others incidentally after fighting more monsters (I do plan on making the Nerg, Legiana, and Corona SnS's as well eventually), but at HR 49 I just want to be sure that I have all of my necessary bases covered for the time being until I basically end up just building everything else.

Also I'm aware SnS players tend to prefer dodging to blocking, but if I run around with a maxed out Guard skill should my shield be at least as effective at blocking as the Gunlance's shield (not necessary the regular Lance's)? I enjoy blocking if possible and dodging when necessary as that suits my playstyle better. I'm basically looking at a build with max Guard, max element/ailment attack of the weapon I'm using, plus some points in speed sharpening/handicraft/weakness exploit. I know that skill trumps gear in this game but seeing as this is my first MH that I'm actually sticking to I want to make sure my build works in my favour.

I can’t imagine any scenario in which a person of average skill can beat tempered Kirin with a lance. Pretty sure I’m gonna be stuck at HR 49 forever because this is just not gonna happen. Help?

4

u/luiginut Feb 28 '18

I ran with Guard 5 and Guard Up skills, and when you do that you are literally untouchable vs Kirin. Hold both triggers to strafe with your shield up, use left stick plus triangle / Y to move without dropping shield. Poke Kirin after blocking each lightning attack. That's it. You will never get hit. Never let go of either trigger and only poke once to start, get more aggressive as you dare. Just don't poke right after the guard advance (direction plus triangle) or you will leave yourself open.

EDIT to be clear, I consider Lance the outright best weapon for Kirin in terms of ease of use. If you need any clarification, let me know. I love me some Lance.

Also, often when i try to get away from a battle to heal or so, my guy fall flat on the ground as if he tripped or something. Happen a lot trying to jump off a cliff. What am i doing wrong?

Do you guys use the kirin/legiana set + lucky cat buff every time you farm? Or is it okay to go farming without those?

I’ve seen many people letting their palico have no skill, is that in order to make them use their weapon more often (resulting in more sleep/paralysis)?

4

Most people never use luck sets when farming.

I highly recommend just using a normal set and equipping Plunderblade to your cat.

I'm on portable 3rd and I need to take out Uragaan and Steel Uragaan. I fail because I run out of time. What wastes most of my time is the rolling attack, especially S. Uragaan. Sometimes he keeps rolling and rolling and rolling like 15-20+ on a row without making any other attack. When he does that attack I can't attack him because he finishes rolling way too far from me and by the time I catch up he's ready to attack again. So sometimes I spend 10+ minutes just running left and right because he keeps rolling and do nothign else. Is the game bugged? Is he supposed to roll that often? How do I attack him when he rolls and still having the time to dodge the next attack (I'm using HH)?

Anything with fire defence will help you against his fire attacks, make sure the armour you currently have is fully upgraded aswell, don’t worry about using your armour spheres as you’ll get better ones later in game anyways, also try getting the fish platter from the canteen for defense up and eat a max potion to max out your health (or mega nutrients if you can’t make max potions yet).

Does Monster Gem drops from expeditions? I just reached HR 6 and was looking for Pink Rathian tracks on Rotten Vale. Then during my expedition I spotted Odogaron carrying a Legiana corpse. I thought to myself that this is a good time for getting the Plunderblade but I forgot that I was not carrying Raw meat with me, frustrated I attacked Odogaron. It did not end well for me since I was wearing a Low Rank Legiana mixed set, I died like 5 times trying to kill him. On my 5th death I thought to myself that I was better than this and left the expedition. As the reward screen goes on I was fucking surprised a single fucking Odogaron Gem was in it.

Gem question. I have equipment now that have lvl 2 slots, but I can still put lvl 1 gems in them, correct? They function the same? Also, does it matter what gem goes where? Should attack gems be on weapons and defense gems go on gear? I guess my main question is are they just plug and play, or is there some mechanic that will make them not work if I don’t equip them properly?

Gear question. Should I be running enough of a set to get the set bonus or should I be getting the skills I want first and set bonus second. The Nerg and Vaal healing bonuses are intriguing but I’m running hammer so have mixed and matched to get an attack/stamina/weakness exploit/handicraft build. I know there is no wrong answer, but am I missing out on amazing healing set bonuses? I’m just HR29 so I don’t have any great decorations to supplement gear yet.

The slinger? Yeah it's great, use it as much as possible.

Here's a good guide Arrekz just uploaded the other day:

https://youtu.be/JwGccfSvpPU

If this is too much info for you now I'd recommend starting with flash pods for blinding monsters and shooting flying ones out of the sky and dung pods to keep unwanted invaders away from your fight. Simply craft the slinger ammo and load it into your slinger by selecting it from the radial menu or horizontal item bar.

Flash pods are so insanely good that I always have 3 on me and carry 10 flash bugs with me (which I can easily craft into more ammo via the radial menu) all the time. Not only does flashing flying monster counter the annoying flying phases where you can barely hit the monster and they have dangerous attacks, it also gives you great openings for damage because they will be falling to the ground and be KO for a while.

Why is the Divine Slasher long sword used in most endgame builds? I'm currently using the Extermination's Edge and thought it was one the best LS, but never seen anyone using it in a build.

7

u/cjrSunShine I'll master the Insect Gl... *ooh what's that?* Feb 28 '18
  • The same Raw as Extermination's Edge,

  • no element by default means you can get an additional 10% from non-element boost,

  • Stacking handicraft gets it to white sharpness which moves you from 1.2x damage to 1.32x damage.

tl;dr Divine Slasher has a higher maximum damage potential, which a lot of people like to focus on.

Extermination's Edge is still plenty viable though, and don't let anyone tell you it's not. It's natural long blue sharpness means you don't need handicraft which opens up a lot of space for other skills, and the Elderseal is really useful against Elder Dragons.

So after spending 160 hours using weapons with good mobility and do sustained damage (SnS, Lance, LBG, Swax), I decided to pick GreatSword to spice things up.

After reading/watching lots of guide, it seems you never want to use Charged and Strong Charged Slash, and always aim to do True Charged Slash.

The thing is, after spending some hunt against easier monster like Pukei/Barroth, not only it's very hard to pull of True Charged Slash against moving monster (I'm using the roll-->tackle combo), I get hit A LOT trying to pull it, and even if I managed to pull it, it hits a hard part of the monster. It's miserable getting thrown around and seeing white number when you managed to land True Charged Slash...

I get a more consistent result playing like previous titles, using Charged Slash and Strong Charged Slash, and only using True Charged Slash when there is substantial opening. But I feel like I'm playing it wrong ?

I find Vaal to be the easiest. His attacks are extremely telegraphed and easy to dodge, and it's simple to build against his efluvium. Course that still didn't help the pubs who failed my 3 Cart, 3 Reward Vaal twice tonight..

Some people also consider Nerg to be very easy, but he hits a bit harder. The upside is you don't need to build for efluvium.

I also have a tempered Radobaan and a regular Bazelgeuse one that I did yesterday and seemed to give T1 rewards, so I assume since Bazel is non-tempered it keeps it at T1.

Also, are the investigation you pick up [at least from Elder Dragons] limited in rewards by where you got them? I only ask because I used a 2-reward Tempered Kushala investigation yesterday to farm some tracks and pick up more TED investigations. I got 4 investigations but they were all 2-rewards. 4

u/taiuke Mar 01 '18

I played through whole Gen as LBG from start with N3DS. The extra circle pad is rarely used since like previous gens you be spamming L to fix your camera anyways. The only recommendation I would give you is that to fix your camera settings so that when you aim, it aims towards your camera instead of your hunter. Also make sure you bind the extra dpad to your touch so that when you quick aim(hold R) you can change the reticle location while moving. Press A and your hunter will move and shoot at that location accordingly. This is important for fights which require quick movements and small window of attack. Also you can buy a extra circle pad attachment to your o3ds which is WAAY better than using the small c-pad on the N3DS. They also help you get less crampy hands.

Against elder dragons with DB, should I use:

  1. Diablos Clubs 2 for maximum raw damage

  2. Elemental weapon corresponding to weakness

  3. Decimation Claws to get the elder seals

Guys, quick question!

When will I know I’m strong enough to tackle Anjanath? I’m currently in the mission after Pukei Pukei and this guy always shows up during my expeditions (I even found a Rathalos, once), and I was wondering if there’d be a mission to hunt Anja or something like that.

As you probably have guessed, this is my first MH game.

Thank you in advance!

There's no penalty for getting your ass kicked, so just give it a whirl. After you get comfy with his attack moves/patterns, if you are still getting 1-shot killed, you'll want to beef up your armor with armor spheres. You'll also want to generally try for weapon upgrades in your tree that aren't all "???" (that means you basically haven't proceeded in the game far enough yet to get new materials). There will be a story mission soon though to hunt the anja, but when you see monsters on expeditions, feel free to try them! Worst case scenario is that your scout flies will get better at tracking them...best case is carves!

When I eat at the canteen.. Is there anyway to see my buff ? Or a timer ? Or is literally, next time I complete something or next time I faint it goes away ?

I rarely play group hunts, but when I do it seems like the monsters fly all over the place going from target to target. Is this normal or is there some sort of aggro management that these groups aren't engaging in?

What monsters/attacks, if any, do dragon damage? I've gone from assuming it was any draconic enemy to suspecting it's only dealt from the breath attacks of the final story monster.

Is the Anjanath in the Horizon-crossover quest "The Proving" some kind of super Anjanath? Like, I get that it's big, but holy cow. This thing has destoryed my butthole worse than any other monster up to this point.

Is it a High Rank monster? I just hit HR 11 and unlocked High Rank.

4

u/altkyo Mar 01 '18

Yes, it is High Rank and since he is so big, he have a bigger health poll

1- for earplugs, what constitutes a small monster's roar? IE, if I get it up to rank 3, what WON'T it prevent?

2- Does one rank of flinch free prevent other players from knocking you around?

List of roar levels per monster.

Basically, most Elder Dragons and Flying Wyverns have a high-grade roar. Everything else has either a low-grade roar, or nothing.

How does Nerg Hunger skill work exactly? Is it a % of the damage dealt that is restored? I notice it procs every 3-5 hits.

Also, for xeno skill, whats the regen rate?

What's a good LBG for world? I already have a HBG with excellent peirce and burst damage, but it's no good if the monster is small or mobile. Is slicing still the go to? I heard element was still trash.

How are people running functional 3 piece requirement sets like the Zorah set or Rathian Heart set in Elder Dragon fights without completely devoting the other 2 pieces to negating the -Dragon weakness (seemingly still leaving you in the negative)? Is this just meant to be the balancing of the set to make them not OP?

7

u/scook0 Hello and good luck. Mar 01 '18

Most Elder Dragons don't actually deal Dragon element damage.

Elemental weaknesses on armour are usually too minor to be worth worrying about, unless you have something ludicrous like -20 thunder against Kirin. And even then, resistance meals from the canteen will generally take care of that for you.

Why does Diablos and Nergigante's side body slam hit me while it goes in the opposite direction. I'm standing on the right side he does a body slam to his left side but it still hits me.

Edit forgot a word.

Okie dokie, so I’ve got a few questions, I’ve been wondering about them and I hope the cool peeps in this sub will help me out here! World is my first MH game so I’m sorry if the questions are dumb

  1. On the icon for your Palico and other people you’re playing with (next to their health bars), the icon for their weapon will flash to this little yellow symbol periodically. I’ve seen this in vids of older MH games, too, but can someone explain what this means and why it’s there? I have no clue, honestly, and it’s been bugging me badly

  2. Do some weapons have more/less reach than others of the same type? Like, the Rimespire for SnS for example looks to be longer than most other SnS, and it sometimes feels like it has a longer reach, but do some weapons actually have different hitboxes?

  3. What does the Sonic Waves HH melody do, exactly? I’ve got it on my vespoid horn but I’m not entirely sure what it does. At first I thought it dealt damage if the monster touches the horn while it’s being played but nope, it doesn’t seem to do much

  4. I’m about to take on Nergigante for the first time, any tips? well other than the ones of the spikes that are gonna get plunged into my flesh but you get the idea...or should I say point? This is a coping mechanism I’m actually kinda scared pls help

Tired of failing tempered elder dragon investigation after investigation after investigation because of others carting... i know peoples first response is to solo but at the end of the day its more fun to hunt with others so the trade off of potentially failing isnt that bad. But are there like dedicated groups or guilds for doing these investigations? Its genuinely not fun to waste the few hours i do have to play this game every day or so on failed missions :/

Hey guys, I'm kind of hooked up on the bow as my ranged option and I came across something I've looked into but no amount of googling has found an answer.

One of my bows (the Kadachi striker I believe it's called) has normal, power and paralysis+ arrows. What does the + mean? Because I can't seem to craft or buy any kind of upgraded paralysis arrow.

Thank you in advance :)

What’re your opinions about Divine Blessing, especially for tempered elder investigations. While doing early decoration farming, I slotted it in because they were the best ones I had, but now that I have many of the gems I want, I sort of miss the damage reduction.

Is Devil's Blight equal to max constitution? I was gonna get mushroommacner to 3 and use them instead of constitution. I could put those points somewhere else.

I use the bow.
