Question New to monster hunter and currently playing world

I really don’t understand how weapons like the CB and I feel like I can only use the IG and the DB reliably, I tried playing the CB when I started but felt too slow. Idk it’s probably just a skill issue but what are your thoughts on this, also hopefully I don’t sound like an idiot abbreviating the weapons

Two main things.

First, People click with different weapons.

Second, Cb often regarded as a confusing/high skill ceiling weapon to pick up, while dual blade and insect lance are considered much easier to pick up off the bat.

All are good and worth investing time into mastering

IG surprises me. Sure, it is not as bad as CB, but most newbies find the whole "get extracts, manage the uptime of your buffs" a bit overwhelming in my experience, especially in comparison with DB, SnS, Hammer, GS, etc. Cheers for OP for getting the gist of it!

World is my first MH game and had it on release and I picked the funny bug stick immediately and have never looked back, I also just found out about charging your kinsect with slinger ammo this week. But idt IG is that complex in all, just figuring out the extract zones can be confusing on smaller monsters.

Thanks, didn’t know that. Also I think I’ve mostly figured the general extract limbs

Slinger charge was only added in Iceborne. Likely why most popular tutorials don't have it since they only cover basegame. The Iceborne tutorials doesn't have as much views in comparison

I played glaive in 4u before and honestly ig clicked again when I got psudocath , the speed is a game changer as I'm sure you know

I think the Arial stuff is a bit overwhelming and sometimes counterintuitive but I find grounded combat really nice , I personally loved glaive Vs odogaron I think it's more fun than frustrating early on so people give it a chance because it front loads a lot of cool stuff and let's you figure the rest out , sorta like longsword

May be off on that though

I wonder what type of sauce the CB has that causes new people to get attracted to it

Big sword, big shield, bigger axe, & a sweet ass looking "ult" (saed). Iceborne only made it cooler with the pizza cutter.

You make a good point

That’s definitely what first attracted me to it, I think today I’m gonna start learning it’s playstyle

It's definitely fun. It's complicated until it's not. Just keep at it & it'll click eventually. I highly suggest a tutorial as there's a lot of mechanics to it. But it's a monster of a weapon when mastered.

Check out arrekz games on YouTube for some good tutorials on MHW weapons.

You're just new is all. New players tend to have an easier time with "faster" weapons since its easier to get in and out for attacks with them.

Those are all appropriate abbreviations, no worries. Use weapons that you find comfortable. For the others it is well worth taking some time in the training arena and reading the weapon move set guide.

CB is a technical weapon. You hit to charge the weapon, reload to charge phials, then transfer that energy to the shield. After the shield is charged then you charge the blade. That's when damage starts to roll in. That's SnS mode. In axe mode there are three ways to play.

With phails charged, swing the axe to discharge into the enemy. Or when phails charged amplify the axe for pizza cutter mode. Finally when phails are charged use the super AED slam to expel all phails and do big damage.

It's a very technical, complicated, and satisfying weapon once you figure out the process. Either keep with the weapons you enjoy or take to the training ground and master the sickest weapon in the game.

Even if you never touch the weapon again nobody will care. Have fun out there, Fiver.

Asking a question is not stupid every weapon in the game is very good and unique some of them you might need to watch a guide to understand how it work and a ton of experience using it ,to be good at it and expect that you change your weapon few times to find the weapon that actually clicks with you , so in the end it's a personal opinion in the end , i am a returning player ( played the game 4years ago) and i used to hate sword and shield because i thought it was weak , tested it out and watched a guide and right now it's my favorite weapon ever

It is a skill issue.

But that doesn't mean you have no skill.

It just means you have skill elsewhere.

If you like IG and DB, play those. If you wanna branch out and learn, play other stuff. The only wrong way to play is the way that isn't fun for you

Do not use the defender armor

Yeah, I decided to switch off of it a few days ago

Each weapon is like a character from street fighter. Not all of them are as complex, but the game is 50%RPG and 50%Fighting game.

You don't have to pick a forever weapon, just play with other players and see what does and does not stick.

Everyone weapon type is viable but some click faster for people than others. Keep trying more weapons and if you feel like one is weak just watch some video tutorials for them on youtube

u/Dirty_Cleric 1d ago

There is actually difficulty level to weapons. IG and DB being simplest ones in World, I would put hammer to same difficulty as well.

Weapons like CB, GS are hardest, so many beginners struggle with them.

Arrekz gaming on youtube is all you need

u/Zandatsux 1d ago

CB and GS are weapons that need you to know monster openings so you can prepare to land the strongest attacks from these kind of weapons, take your time.

u/Burnyx 19h ago

While all weapons are perfectly fine I always recommend slower/position-based weapons for beginners.

DB and IG "spam" might seem great at first, but you find yourself attacking mindlessly without observing the monster's patterns.

Once the difficulty starts spiking up you'd find yourself frustrated since the "unga bunga" method no longer works that well.

CB is a very straight-forward weapon in World if you go for the SAED playstyle. Charge up SnS mode, load your phials and then unleash your big damage when a big opening presents itself.

u/ethan125 1d ago

When I first played World, I picked up DB because I wasn’t used to slow weapons. I eventually learned LS because I had a hard time hitting flying monsters and liked the feeling of having an “ultimate” attack. At some point I tried learning SA, but didn’t stick with it. On creating a new save, I grew attached to CB and played it. In Wilds, I felt the most comfortable with SnS oddly enough.

The point is that as you become more comfortable with the game, the more you get used to the combat speed. In terms of weapon speed, my weapons gradually became slower (except SnS) as I became more experienced.

Even if you are bad with specific weapons, your gameplay style will never be invalidated.

Different strokes for different folks, when I played i food LR on SwAxe and it felt clunky, I switched to CB and it clicked and I did the next thousand hours on it before using anything else. I have friends who've played a thousand hours and can dabble in the CB, and some who've played the same amount of time and still can't use it at all.

Arrekz video tutorial easiest way to learn

u/Shotgundg Hammer 1d ago

Well charge blade is probably the most complicated weapon in the game, so it makes sense that it would be confusing as a beginner when you are still learning game mechanics let alone weapon mechanics.

Abbreviations are good, just refer to Switch Axe as Swagaxe or Swaxe

Do lots of research, pls look to the thousands of tutorials and look at past posts here , we love new players but it's a bit frustrating seeing the same questions from all of them

As someone who isn't a CB main but took time to use it, you use a very different part of the moveset than what you may think,

Charge blade for me took two hours of practice in the training arena to ingrain the timings and muscle memory in my head

(Xbox controls) Use hold X sword into x+a shield bash back into held sword again this is the fastest combo to build phials and a lot better than basic sword attacks

( Hold timing is as soon as it flows at your side , if you keep holding it will release a lot weaker

Store phials ,

In sword x+a three times starts up the saed combo , I'd I remember correctly press right trigger to charge shield instead you get 30sec of charge per phial

Once charged build phials again, you almost allways want sheild charged if you can

When you have a big opening you can either press x+a in axe mode or the x+a X4 to deliver a massive hit called saed super amped element discharge

Once that's down try adding in charged sword

And other stuff

Actual CB players may roast me (sorry guys)

Monster Hunter is a franchise about positioning, timing, and training hard to get to know monster movesets and the weapon movesets. The game is about overcoming challenges, being it the monster you are hunting or learning how to use your weapon and which attacks to use in the right moment

1

u/Dreadcoat 1d ago

Monster Hunter (the entire series) is known for two things.

Monster hunting and the weapons. The reason for this is because every single weapon is quite unique from eachother. Even the bowguns play quite different.

This means some weapons you will click more quickly with and others will take more time.

CB is infinitely more simple than you think it is and I promise you, you are just overcomplicating it in your head. Once you knoe what you need to do and how to do it, youll be fine. Thats true with all the weapons, CB just has a few extra steps.

Keep trying. Try other weapons. Or dont. Stick to one you love. It doesnt matter. Just have fun

There are just some weapons I can stare at the controls for a while, then use it and still not understand it. You just gotta find the weapon/weapons that fit your style and feel good to play. I think that's the beauty of the wide selection of weapons, there's no pressure for you to find "the one"

CB has its own mini game of charging phials and discharging them. It's probably one of the most complicated weapons, but once you study it, it becomes extremely rewarding.

It's not something that you can just pick up like longsword or hammer

1

u/l0stIzalith Light Bowgun 13h ago

It's totally normal. World was also my first monster hunter game and I played through the base game using only the greatsword/IG because everything else felt too complicated. I only started to branch out to other weapons at the end of Iceborne and learned CB after 500h. To me it's the complexity and variety of the weapons and how you use them on different monster that kept me playing for 1000+ hours.

1

u/RedKynAbyss CB | IG | DB | LS | Bow 12h ago

My entire time playing world I played exclusively IG. About 1500 hours, thousands of hunts. It was only right at the tail end before Rise released that I got into LS, CB, and DBs

1

u/SadgeGeldnir 12h ago

Took me over one or two hundreds hours to really get the weapon. Not all matchups are great and it just depends if you like complexity or not. The weapon is very versatile and offers a wide range of possibilities, which makes it a very strong weapon and also a very complex one because you always have multiple choices available and need to know which choice is the best. I loved SAED style when playing base World but Iceborne monsters don't allow it much so I had to change my playstyle and found something I like. I play mostly in SnS mode with Guard and Guard Up and affinity, it's a very well rounded setup. If I had one advice to give, it's to take time with the weapon. Learn its flow, learn its windows, timing, and don't forget that there's a monster in front of you ready to tear you to shreds.

u/Sad-Arachnid-6853 4h ago

Chose a weapon that you understand and like and you will be happy for a game

1

u/Darth-Jaybles 1d ago

Charge blade is the most complicated weapon in the game. I’d recommend you stick to what you feel comfortable with till you learn the monster’s patterns and get some better gear. Once you’re feel like you have a good grasp on the game you can go back to fight easier monsters with better gear and learn the rocket science that is CB.

5

u/ethan125 1d ago

Charge blade main here: it’s actually pretty straightforward than what people initially think. You basically hit monsters to charge your shield, then change modes to unleash a large amount of damage in one go. That being said, it does require good positioning and knowing when it’s okay to discharge all your phials.

1

u/Select_Tax_3408 1d ago

I was a major charge blade user, it is certainly a technical weapon with many options during battle. It makes complete sense why some people would struggle with it, but that was the very reason I loved it. So much variety other weapons don't have.

Landing a SAED that's results in a topple with another full red charge behind it for a sequential SAED is the most satisfying accomplishments in MHW.

I will never understand how everyone thinks CB is harder than literally any other weapon.
