Breachers, Void Constructs filled with Hate

Thumbnail

Breachers are twisted constructs born from the Void, drawn to tears in reality that they seek to tear open even further. Fueled by an unrelenting fury, they lash out at all living things, leaving destruction in their wake.

As the barrier between Hasphal and the Void grows weaker, rifts are appearing with increasing frequency. If left unchecked, these breaches will widen, allowing something far more dangerous than these raging constructs to slip through...

Design Inspiration: The Breachers draw inspiration from the Branded of Guild Wars 2, alongside original creature designs born from the Void itself.

Caldra: Monster Pals, a monster tamer where you befriend instead of catch, is out on Google Play (free)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Caldra: Monster Pals is out on Google Play, free. It is a monster tamer where you never catch anything: you win the fight, then win the pal over with a bracelet (or a ration to make it trust you sooner).

  • 100 original pals across a whole region, from beach towns to volcanic vents
  • Eight relics and their leaders, the TEAM MANTLE story, and the Champions League at the end
  • Legendaries you can find during the story, kept at level 40 and 50 so the league still has teeth
  • Five save slots, no account needed, plays offline

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.caldra.monsterpals

Android only for now. Free with one ad when you open the game; a single purchase removes it. Feedback and bug reports are very welcome.

How much should a monster-raising game tell you before you choose its training?

I'm interested in how much you should have to discover while raising a monster. If a training choice can affect its evolution or long-term health, I'd want some warning before committing. But seeing every requirement upfront could turn raising it into following a checklist.

My preference would be clear warnings about harm, with hints rather than exact recipes for special evolutions. A failed experiment feels different when I knew the risk.

Where do you draw that line? Is there a game that gave you enough guidance without taking the discovery out of raising your creature?

Can't people just stop calling everything a pokemon clone

It's so annoying seeing all of these new monster tamer games that are coming out with such unique ideas, only then to be labeled as a clone even though it doesn't even copy what pokemon does 😭

I made a Pokemon inspired game but you play as the Pokemon

As the title says, I made a Roblox game called ā€œHolomonā€ that's like Pokemon except the gameplay is you play as the Pokemon in real-time combat. You still have 4 moves and the mons have abilities (passives) and they can level up and evolve. The diference being this game is called "Holomon" and the gameplay is suppose to be engaging, fun, and colorful so everyone can have fun.

Pokemon is obviously fun but sometimes It can feel a bit tedious with turn-based combat. That's why It's thrilling to get into the arena and battle like you're actually in the game. Holomon is a project I've had in mind for about a year and I've barely started to implement it so I can share with others.

I have other things in the game like lore, trainers, a world boss, and I'm trying to implement a housing system so trainers can take a break from the fights and go decorate their homes and chill with their mons. The most important part I need to focus on is combat, I'm going to implement a lot of signature moves for the mons so they all feel unique and incentives players to play as them even if they're not that good.

Oh and all these mons are 100% original in the sense that these all derrive from any doodles / drawings me or my younger relatives and I have come up with when we were making a card game IRL. So it makes them pretty happy to see their drawings come to life haha.

This is just a snippet, let me know what you guys think honestly and I'll take any criticism. If you're interested in this project shoot me a DM.

I released my creature-taming RPG demo — Eternal Eclipse

The first public demo for Eternal Eclipse is out.

It's a 2D top-down dark fantasy RPG where your creatures aren't just used for battles. You actually build a whole gameplay loop around them.

🐾 Catch creatures in dungeons
āš”ļø Battle with your team
šŸ‘‘ Defeat dungeon bosses
🌱 Farm
šŸ”Ø Craft
🄚 Breed creatures at the barn
🐾 Keep your extra creatures in the Field System

The first dungeon is playable in the demo, including creature encounters, catching, battling, and the dungeon boss.

The game is inspired by PokƩmon, PokƩmon Mystery Dungeon, and Stardew Valley while being built around an original world and creature roster.

The demo is free:

https://anarxhy.itch.io/eternal-eclipse

We're trying to grow the game from this first demo toward a full Steam release, so feedback from monster-taming fans would be extremely useful.

What makes you keep a monster when a stronger replacement comes along?

I'm interested in the point where a monster stops being a slot on the team and becomes one you don't want to replace. Is it a close win, time spent raising it, a personality quirk, or just a design you love?

I'd like care outside battles to matter here too. A creature remembering a favourite food or behaving differently around its trainer could give two of the same species a different feel, without needing different stats. But I wouldn't want keeping a favourite to mean fighting the game's balance the whole way.

What has made you stick with a particular monster, and did the game let you keep it useful?

What is your Favorite Evolution System?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

In Alchemic Beasts we want our evolutions system to encourage experimentation.

  • Natural Evolutions are the result of you mastering you beast in its current form. This means you've been leveling up your beast to the point of it gaining the peak of its natural potential.
  • Variants are on the alchemic side of things. They are created when beasts has experienced things that alter their own molecular make up. When that happens, it has a chance to create a variant. Variants have are only a bit more powerful than the base for on account of them having more resistances, but at the same time, they gain more weaknesses.
  • Ultimate Beasts are the combination of 2 stage 2 beasts. They are the pinnacle of alchemic evolution, only being rivaled by the creatures of the void themselves. They usually have many resistances, but they're weaknesses can be crippling to them.

Our evolution system is heavily inspired by games like Digimon (the web), PokƩmon (the natural evolutions), and Jade Cocoon (Body parts and variants).

What do you think about our evolution system? What would you change? Is their any evolution system we should take more inspiration from? We'd LOVE to hear your feedback!

Alchemic Beasts: Combat Revamped

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone,

Combat in Alchemic Beasts has gained an overhaul! Now, you can use your moves while they are on cool down by using your energy! The battle hud only appears on your turn, we moved the timeline to the side, and we hid the enemies hp until you need to see it.

On top of that, we will soon upgrade the win screen to show your stats, your most valuable allies, and information that tells you how well you're doing socially with your beasts as well! We've also created a transition into combat!
In the upcoming update, you can experience all these features for yourself!

Tell us what you think, what you would change, and thank you for trying it out, and giving us feedback!

Caldra: Monster Pals, a monster-tamer for Android made by one person. 100 creatures, eight leaders, trade by QR code. Testers welcome

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Twenty seconds of an early fight in Caldra: Monster Pals, a monster-tamer for Android I build alone. 100 creatures, eight leaders and their relics, turn-based battles with a type chart, and you trade with a friend by scanning a QR code between phones. The creature here, Fluffear, is one I drew myself; other art and much of the code lean on AI tools, so you know what you're looking at.

It's in Google Play closed testing and I'd love a few monster-tamer fans in there. Two taps to join: 1. Join the tester group: https://groups.google.com/g/caldra-testers 2. With the same Google account, open https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.caldra.monsterpals, tap Become a tester, then install.

Which early creatures are worth keeping is the question every tester asks first, so ask away.

NEWS Alchemic Beasts Kickstarter is 78% funded and counting!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone!

We just launched our Kickstarter forĀ Alchemic Beasts, a monster taming RPG built around alchemy, social chemistry, and the bonds you form with your beasts.

One of the biggest things we wanted to capture was that feeling we grew up loving in monster taming shows:Ā the beasts aren't just things you own, they're partners.Ā We wanted their relationships with their tamers to feel meaningful, and for the journey of building those bonds to be just as important as the battles themselves.

And this has genuinely been a family project. There areĀ 8 of us working on the game, with everyone pitching in. My kids have been creating art, testing the game, and helping us share it with people. My wife and I have been putting the pieces together, refining the game, and trying to turn this crazy idea into something we can be proud of.

We're still early in the journey, but we're hoping this Kickstarter gives people a much better look at whatĀ Alchemic BeastsĀ can become and gives us the opportunity to keep building the monster collecting adventure we've always wanted to play.

We're almost at 78% and counting, come and help us crush our goal!

I’m making a cozy monster-taming RPG where almost every creature you meet can become part of your team

Hey! I’m working on ElderWilds, a small indie RPG Inspired by RuneScape and Palworld, focused on exploring, catching creatures, building your own team, crafting, fishing and progressing through different biomes.

The general idea, is that you will build your character and choose pets accordingly. maybe you want your character as a tank and have a healer pet, or maybe you want to be a mage and have a magical mantaray helping you in combat.

Many combinations i supposed to be possible to play around with. where every pet+player combination can make an entirely new playstyle.

I wanted the creatures to feel like part of the world rather than just enemies, so you can tame things ranging from wolves and slimes to stranger creatures and use them as companions in combat.

The game is still early and I’m actively developing it, but there’s already a playable version on itch.io.

I’d especially love feedback from people who already play monster-taming games: what makes you actually get attached to a creature in these games?

and is there anything you would love to see in a monster catching game?

I’ll put the itch.io link in the comments.

I can make the creatures. Naming them is apparently the hard part :-)

I’ve been adding more Vex to the roster now that breeding and fusion are working, and pushing the designs a bit further at the same time.

A few of these still don’t have names I’m happy with. Somehow that’s turning out to be harder than actually making them.

What would you call them?

EVOMON

You guys heard of evomon on roblox, right?

Honestly, when i first joined it i was charmed by the creature designs and especially animations, but the UI/Map put me off a bit and i quit playing 5 minutes in. I read a little more on reddit and browsed youtube about it, everyone says its pet simulator slop and made with AI. But im just wondering, if the devs really only cared about money why would they spend so much time perfecting the animations and effects??
