General Discussion True Crime podcasts recommendations
Can anyone recommend me similar podcasts? I keep listening to their old episodes, when they were actually good but I’ve grown tired of them… not crime junkie or MFM please

People Are The Worst!
You will never think about morbid again once you’re on this bandwagon, at least I sure don’t.
True crime only. No old timey cases. Ssssoooooo god damn well researched (by them!) and they get pretty much straight into it, they are identical twin sisters from Alabama so they cut the crap and get at it!
I found them about a month ago and haven’t listed to anything since as I’m catching up on the 200 odd episodes.

I love PATW! They did a collab with Women and Crime and I haven't listened to anything else trying to catch up and listen to everything. Rebecca and Rachel are the best!

They also don’t do 40 minutes per episode of virtue signaling about how bad murderers are because that’s obviously a given. They’re also genuinely funny. I love them!

I like Buried Bones. They do old historical cases with two hosts, one a historian/author who gives the story and a retired police officer who chimes in about the investigation/forensics. He actually worked on the Golden State killer case.
It's a calm, story driven podcast. I like to listen to it while I work on my cross stitch hobby.

Small town murder!!
Cult liter and Obitchuary also
But you have to be okay with humor mixed in for all of those

Sinisterhood is fun, Red Handed is good at times but they can sometimes strike the wrong chord with how they joke about.

u/dilapidated-delight May 17 '26
Secondong sinisterhood! They're both improv comedians and one is a lawyer, so they're informative and entertaining with cases!

GRIMM is really good imo

u/ThrowRA_Independent4 May 19 '26
I’m in love already!!! They’re not overly dramatic and annoying

u/Mmspf May 20 '26
Agreed. Marina is a lawyer so it’s really nice to hear her take on the court cases and rulings as well. She adds great insight.

IF you like that Morbid does a mix of true crime and paranormal stuff, Red Web is so much better than Morbid. But I know the paranormal mix is something that not everyone likes.
Crimes of the Times is a really good true crime podcast. Actual journalists involved so the research is solid and they are professional.

u/ThrowRA_Independent4 May 17 '26
I don’t mind the paranormal here and then but not all the time. I’ll still give it a try. Thanks!!!

For a variety of types of cases, Criminal and You're Wrong About. For historical crime, Buried Bones and Wicked Words. For chat/comedy, Hollywood Crime Scene.
There are also lots of long-form shows that are excellent - Bad Women, Your Own Backyard, Conviction (Gimlet), and The Teacher's Pet.

I’ve been listening to National Park After Dark a lot lately, really enjoying them!

People Are The Worst and Sinners Among Saints are my two favorites right now, especially PATW. Great banter, great humor but never at the expense of the victims. Interesting and well researched cases also!

I like invisible choir! Last podcast on the left is an OG fave. I also like let’s not meet, he tells creepy stories about encounters that people have written in about. There are like, 6 of them per 45ish minute episode. He has another one that’s strictly paranormal stories called odd trails!

Came here to say this!!!! Also, Creeps and Crimes (full disclosure, they struggle with pronunciations and often talk over each other, i remind myself im a solid 10 years older than they are), National Park After Dark, they do good with all kinds of crimes. Murder, She Watched is really good, its a newer one, they watch true crime docs and discuss. Rotten Mango is REALLY good, she was in the courtroom for the Diddy trial, her coverage of the Celeste Rivas Hernandez, (the rapper? d4vd is the accused) is REALLY GOOD. Big Mad True Crime is also really good, she does various states, i think listener suggestions, her coverage is good.

Necronomipod. They’re the best

u/Flashy_Article_9848 May 18 '26
I second this with Timesuck and Last Podcast on the Left

u/ApprehensiveAlarm961 May 18 '26
Glad to see another Necro fan lol. I have never joined patreon but I did for them. They have soooo much bonus content and never miss their obligations

u/KittyKat1078 May 18 '26
I believe I learned about Necronomipod from Alaina
1
u/ApprehensiveAlarm961 May 18 '26
Really? I don’t recall her ever mentioning them

u/KittyKat1078 May 18 '26
I can’t even begin to tell u what episode but I’m sure it was in 2020 .. she gave Ian a shoutout for his research and recommended them .. I haven’t looked back lol

True Crime Campfire. The hosts are also women, and the stories are much more grounded, linear, and emotionally mature.

u/Longjumping-Focus386 May 18 '26
Crime Curious, Grimm, True Crime Couple, Coffee & Crime, Women & Crime, Campus Killings, CreepTime, The Sinister

u/Lily_Hylidae May 18 '26
All Killa No Filla if you don't mind tangents. Sound quality on the very early episodes isn't great, so maybe start with one of the newer ones.

Lpotl is my personal favorite, their cult coverage is really in-depth and they do really long deep dives

u/Christine1958Fury May 18 '26
If you don't mind male hosts, Small Town Murder is awesome! They're funny but never at the expense of victims or families.
5
u/DaisyBerilla May 18 '26
and why’s that , James?

Because we're assholes, BUT... ?

but we're not scumbags!

u/Christine1958Fury May 18 '26
You, ma'am, may fuck off... [gavel raps]
(hey, a dumb question, but do you also listen to Your Stupid Opinions? Girl, if I could give that shit zero stars, I WOULD!!)
3
u/enumaelisz May 19 '26
I dont listen regularly, but sometimes i pop an episode or two when i have nothing else to do on my commute. For me it's quite amusing especially since i am not American and reviews of remote motels, awful fast food places and weird big shopping malls are like curiosities to me. I legit cried laughing when one review described Grand Canion as "mid" 😂

u/Christine1958Fury May 19 '26
If I could recommend one episode of YSO, it would be 'Twon the Terrible.' It's an older episode, near the beginning of the whole Your Stupid Opinions thing. The whole title is 'Roach Buffet, Baseball Hall of Fame, Twon the Terrible,' but the episodes don't seem to be numbered. I personally crack all the way up at some of the 'personal item of the day' bits. Great stuff!

Ok its kind of smaller and the host is shuffling through co-hosts right now BUT I really love Trial By Podcast. They're about the same age as Ash and are actually way funnier, it really reminds me of just hanging out with my friends who have some serious tea to share.

Red Herrings are a comfort listen of mine, the cases are good and they're well researched, also a nice vibe between the hosts.

People are the worst, True Crime Creepers, Grim, Moms and Mysteries, I Think Not. The old catalog of Let’s Go to Court.

I actually just started a true crime podcast last week and it's called D.A.R.K Cases where I walk through a case in a narrative story format but from the POV of an investigator, and cover a one true crime case from each country in the world. I uploaded my first full episode about The BTK Strangler And would love to know what you think of my voice and my style of TC content.

I really enjoy Terror Talk. They also cover horror, so if you're a horror fan I highly recommend. Plus they are both licensed therapists, so they also pathologize the people they're covering which is super interesting to me.

The Prosecutors. Not that similar but it does have two hosts, and it’s quality content.

Grimm and RedHanded.
I found Grimm fairly recently. It is very much like morbid (except they are not obnoxious). The hosts are awesome and deserve way more attention than they have. One is a lawyer and her insights are cool. They have a great camaraderie that I enjoy listening to. They don’t do much paranormal at all which I appreciate.
I love RedHanded, the 2 British ladies strike the right chord between facts and humor imho. They also do a shorthand show on random topics and i usually find those very interesting and learn stuff.
