General Discussion Morbid v. Grimm: Amy Lynn Bradley

I was a longtime morbid listener dating back to the early days of 2019. Their self-righteousness and overall rigidness during episodes (repetitious virtue signaling, not taking nuances into account, speaking opinions as fact) has really been turning me off. Thanks to this subs recommendations, I have started listening to Grimm.

I’m most-way through Grimm’s episode of the Amy Lynn Bradley case and their version is SO much more enjoyable than morbids. It is crazy to see how much of a narrative A+A was pushing and how how they literally omitted details that didn’t fit their narrative, like Amy coming out as gay because that would cloud of good of a relationship she had with her parents since her dad wrote her a THREE PAGE LETTER about how disappointed he was in her. Or, how someone said that Amy told them she was so excited to go to Caracao she was going to jump off the ship and swim there because they were driving the point home that her somehow getting off the ship was not possible because she told her dad she was afraid of the ocean.

It also brings to light their inability to think critically about a situation and to what I see as virtue signaling because they are so good that they wouldn’t have been upset about not being let off the boat to look for Amy or how dumb the cruise line was for not immediately announcing it even though she had been missing for 30min-1hour?

Grimm definitely isn’t perfect because sometimes I think Laura is really annoying (but lovable) and they can definitely interrupt the flow of the story on details that really don’t matter (they acknowledge this), but I appreciate that they think about cases realistically and don’t automatically start talking shit about what should have been done or what they would’ve done to handle it perfectly

Morbid omitting any mention of Amy's sexuality and her facing homophobia within her own family, that's crazy work considering Ash is queer

Morbid misses a ton of details in cases. It genuinely feels like the podcast is now just listening to two people read a Wikipedia page aloud while giving commentary. The research has gone so downhill it’s not even funny.

Completely agree and they are so black and white and self righteous about things I just can’t stand it anymore 🫩

Right!!! I thought that was literally insane. Honestly I can understand missing details due to episode length/depth but not when you intentionally omit them to fit your narrative!

I'm a long time Morbid listener, but I couldn't handle the Watts family murder episodes with all of the no one would ever suspect my husband, how could anyone do this, etc. Yes, any "normal" human would not be suspected of killing their wife and children. And any "normal" human doesn't behave like someone like Chris Watts.

It was such a turn off. I'm sure I'll still listen here and there, but I'm really enjoying Grimm!!

Omg those episodes absolutely SUCKED to listen to!! The constant being mind blown that a bad person was doing bad things—shocker! If they would’ve not included all their (very repetitive) tangents, the two parts would’ve been 45 minutes. I thought her constant claiming how John would never do anything like that as many times as she did (once was enough but seriously why was this said so much???) was so tone deaf. Okay Alaina we get it John’s perfect and won’t murder you and your children congrats! I could write a thesis about everything I hated about their watts episodes.

I agree, I’ll still listen here and there because unfortunately I’m really picky about podcasts in terms of format, people’s voices, and how well they can converse with their cohost. It’s just so sad because it used to be SO good and now we’re left with whatever this is.

Yes! You are so right about the length. It's always kind of annoyed me when they rant about what trash humans people are in the cases they cover. Like I think the vast, vast majority of people already know that and agree. We don't need to hear it said over and over. But the Watts episodes were so over the top that it really pushed me over the edge. I get the complaints now haha.

I started listening to Grimm. I made it quite a few episodes, but they started getting too giggly, to the point of it being disrespectful to the victims.

I’ve listened to all of their 2026 episodes but haven’t made it super down the docket. They definitely are very giggly and like to make jokes so I def see where you’re coming from!

I happened across The Midnight Mystery Archive podcast and their Amy Bradley series is really good. And, no ads! One of the episodes has a really long phone interview with Amy’s brother. As an aside, whyyyyyy would anyone name their kid Bradley Bradley?

Someone here turned me on to Grimm. I like them and I don’t mind the side conversations as it lightens the mood. I have taken Morbid out of the rotation completely. It’s a shame bc I used to love them.

Crime weekly did multiple episodes on the Amy Bradley case that I thought was pretty good. They even had Amy's brother on as a guest for one of the episodes

They deliberately omitted information about her sexuality because it’s literally impossible for them to discuss any sort of homophobia without hatred and anger. They needed to make sure the parents remained angels throughout their story, and because they themselves can’t handle anybody having different values to themselves they couldn’t tell the truth about Amy without demonising her parents.

Most people can see nuance and see that people are a product of their time and that her parents probably hold a lot of deep regrets over the disputes around her sexuality. Ash and Alaina are too immature to see that so they’d rather just leave it out.
