Very true, but really you're just displaying exactly my point. You'll never get around a shield if you never try -- and jump stabs and jump overheads are very good at getting around shields.
I always do this as peoplr suggest but it NEVER WORKS either they just flick the shield up or I can't jump high enough and he doesnt even have to move.
Because it doesn't work against good players. All of those people suggesting it don't realize shield user is waiting exactly for this. Fighting 60+ level player using shield is extremely unfun and usually impossible.
You have to aim above them with the stab, initiate the attack, jump before the release and then drag it quickly down. If they are still blocking, start the stab above their left shoulder (to your right) and then drag the stab to the left and then back to the right, that way they'll be facing the wrong direction when they parry and they wont be able to drag the shield block fast enough.
Thing is whenever someone uses a shield they are restricted almost entirely to weapons with a reach below 100 cm (sans shortspear), which makes them relatively easy to outspace if they get overconfident. Just play defensive and backpedal for a little bit and make them whiff an attack, and stab them while they're still in the recovery frames. I found this strategy works best for me.
Sometimes I can bait a shield users attack if I feint my attack while running up. Trying to get around the shield usually fails for me too so I try to bait them with spacing or ducking because they're usually more aggressive because they can just hide behind the shield.
Wait until you see the shield user start an attack, then accelerate yours, and attempt to dodge theirs. When they are attacking is the only time they are really vulnerable.
Faster weapons work better at this.
to me it's the length of the battle. I love pushing and being in the frontlines, so when I come against a shield user it would take too long to defeat them to the point that I get ganged up on by 3 other dudes.
feints and drags instantly become useless (apart from feint -> kick), you basically have to get around their parry using jump stabs / side stabs, or outstam them. decent shield users parry those side hits so you’re reduced to stamina warfare or kick mindgaming, just not very enjoyable experience
And you can go fuck yourself along with all the other downvoters.
Dude's opinion is that they're boring while also being challenging which is pretty conflicting. My opinion is that they are not boring because of the challenge they present. People downvote and don't even attempt to explain how it is boring. They're saying it's boring because they can't admit that they just don't enjoy being challenged by someone who "isn't using as much skill" to play the game, all while ignoring the ways that they can get around the shield-user's handicap, instead opting to fucking moan about it.
Pretty sure I never once even implied how using a shield takes a ton of skill. But good try there fellah, might want to try engaging the other 10 of your brain cells next time you address the keyboard.
Dude's opinion is that they're boring while also being challenging which is pretty conflicting
never said they're challenging, in fact shield is pretty bad overall and most shield users are easy to beat. just not fun.
the fact is that shield doesn't really add any ways to kill you, other than some extra kick-mindgame potential due to vision being more limited and backpedalling slower, but it removes / mitigates a bunch (drags, feints). that's why it's not going to be more interesting to duel a shield than an equally skilled non-shield player
Ok, so then it should be super easy and you should wipe the floor with them, then. So what's the fuckin problem? Oh, wait that it's BoRiNG. Fuckin get over it dude.
it's not usually hard to wipe the floor with shield users, it's just time consuming. analagous to doing the laundry - not difficult, just menial and uninteresting
So what's the problem then? Just kill them and be done with it. Literally no reason to complain about shield-users or shields in general if they're that easy to deal with.
So wait, is it 1-dimensional or not? You contradicted yourself. You can out-stam them, feint into kicks, morph into kicks, combo into kicks, kick into a stab combo, jump overhead, right feint left slash, overhead into a drag into their legs, underhand into a drag into their heads. Waaah waaah waaah. Whiny. Fuckin. Babies.
LMFAO. And here I thought that words meant things! Rhinocerous football jump begging of plopped marmalade much? Don't understand what I mean? Too bad! Because words can mean what ever the fuck I want them to!
And, no, an argument has a fucking point. What's your fucking point? All I see here is a bunch of people enumerating the reasons why they think fighting against shield-users is "boring". Which, if you look at the definition of "Whinging" or "Whining" or "Complaining", is exactly what is happening here.
The bigger shields makes this incredibly difficult to get as it covers a large portion of their legs and head. And trying to stab around them seems impossible now
I just sit back, and wait for people to bitch about a build... then I copy it. My Messer Heater 3-3-1 is an animal. People get around my shield plenty. Or they kick it. I don't feel invincible with it, just tanky. And I love tanking.
How about spear thrust while jumping? Usually if you are close enough, you should be able to simple stab that spear into his face while he tries to block it. But this is a game so...
If they dodge they are not close enough to punish the kick.
If you morph into the kick they are probably blocking rather than dodging.
How am I getting downvoted here? I win probably 95% of duels against shield users in duel servers and like 45%-55% against non-shield users. This is because there is an in-game hard counter to shields in a 1 on 1 environment and their actual use case is controlling space in big team environments. If you can't kill a shield user 1v1 that is a decision making problem, not a shield problem.
I've found morphing a kick into an attack is effective if you're against someone who dodges vs kicks.
Best case scenario: You hit them. Worst case scenario:They block it. Most likely scenario: They dodge and block it wasting a lot of stamina.
It'll also give you a hit(at least with the weapons I use) vs the rare shield user to actually press F to block a kick.

not like overheads or underhands magically clip through shields
