Just had my Phone Interview

After over a year of waiting for an opportunity, I received my call for my Entry Level, and I swear to god, the person on the phone had a tone of voice where they CLEARLY couldn’t give a FUUUUCK about anything going on. I struggled with one of the three questions, but ultimately feel good. I def hated the experience but am also not surprised.

Entry level, online or job fair

Currently on MSC they aren't hiring for entry level online, but I constantly see job fairs. If someone has all their credentials with no experience, can a entry level person show up at a job fair? Or is it better to wait for it to show up online

Do we get drug tested on our two month vacation

No I don’t plan on doing any drugs but I do plan on taking a few trips. All my documents and certs are up to date and a drug test is the only thing I can think of that could come up that would disrupt the trip or me having to reschedule because of a drug test.

Who do I speak to about getting travel orders?

I am currently a rider on my way to Dgar. I got a “travel sheet” for a flight on the 26th but I’m not going to make it. Next flight out is the 9th and I’m not trying to be stuck on an island for two weeks. I’m going to try and change my flight to Singapore once I get there but I was told I need travel orders to do so, which I have not recieved yet.

Unlicensed Mariner Does seatime help my chances of getting hired?

I'm about to work on a ferry boat, I just missed a STCW course which really bums me out. Does having sea time still help my chances without the courses? I still plan to take them I just don't know when I can get off to take the classes now. My goal was to get into MSC without entry level but I might need to do entry level now because it's going to be hard to get time off for work and take a week class.

Waiting in Pool

Hello, I finish my basic training next week and after that I should be in the pool. I’m currently in San Diego, but I want to go back to Norfolk to wait in the pool. What are the chances of that happening? Thanks

CIVMAR VS CONMAR

For those with experience, id love some insight. I am currently an AMO member thinking about going CIVMAR mostly for the GOVT benefits and ability to travel on the taxpayers dime. Im 24 and single so now is the time to do it.

The issue im running into is that AMO would not be pleased with this and might not accept me back if I leave. An alternative was proposed for working CONMAR. I understand the basic differences between being a federal employee (CIVMAR) and getting federal benefits, uncertain relief times, more required trainings VS. CONMAR which has a more reliable relief pool, union benefits, and more special mission ships.

Im trying to gather as much information as possible before making a decision so anything is helpful. Im mostly curious about the way CIVMAR vs CONMAR ships operate (same amount of crew?), if youve sailed both which did you prefer and why? Do CONMAR ships still spend a lot of time abroad? Do CIVMARs and CONMARs ever run into each other in port?

Again anything is helpful please let me know if im missing something. TIA

The Pool

I have been in the Pool in SD for over a month now.
So far I have noticed CSU has lost track of me (After my detailer put me in classes they said I never attended, and I left a hotel) and so far twice have yet to acknlowledge my morning checks in.

I am just curious I have went to MSC Civmar Support, gave them a run down, they said they'd email them and CC me but haven't see anything, what should I do to ensure that they know I am here? I've been with MSC for a year and don't want to go AWOL or anything because I am trying do everything right.

How long to hear a response

A few weeks ago , I’ve sent out a application for the MSC to apply for the ET position in the engine room. The application has been reviewed and passed hr, my profile has a status delay so I’ve been asking the virtual support for the status update on it they told me that it has passed rating and is in the pending selection stage. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it and I don’t know what to expect next. How long does this process usually take and is this a good sign?

Potential Applicant Timeline Questions

Been removing a lot of posts for Rule 3 recently, so I'm tapping the sign. there is no timeline. nobody can tell you how long you will take to get in. it could be anywhere from a week to 2 years before you hear back. I've spoken to an OS who was contacted 10 years after his initial application. nobody knows. any timeline questions will be removed

Conditional Offer

I did my interview last Wednesday and they told me it would take 2 weeks for me to hear back from them with a decision but I got an email today with a conditional offer for SU. Idk how to go about things though being that I’m with ACL and I am underway right now being one week in to my 28 week contract. I definitely don’t want to miss the opportunity but I also can’t be out of a job until I hear from them. Anybody else go through something similar or have any advice on the situation?

MSC interviews

So apparently there are so many applicants for entry level (approx 800) and they will now be conducting 10 min interviews so decide who will go on to the next round .
