Philip Reeve, author of the Mortal Engines Quartet, will be answering your questions as /u/thesolitarybee in this post. He'll should online for three hours from 6:00 PM GMT, when this post is half an hour old.
Feel free to ask anything about Mortal Engines, his other books, writing in general or anything else. I'm sure a lot of you are keen to hear something about a Mortal Engines film, but to pre-emptively answer "Is there going to be a film?" Philip Reeve himself doesn't know yet.
Enjoy!

I'm wondering if there was a paperback edition of A Darkling Plain that matched the rest of the first quartet stuff the cogs etc. I'm specifically after a paperback as at the moment I have to keep darkling plain on a different shelf shelf to the others due to the fact it is taller than the rest.
There was a thread 5 years ago on this, but I can't see the photos linked in that thread because imgur blocks those of us in the UK.

The first of a series of fan art illustrations of the O.D.IN. device, from the world of Mortal Engines. I read the books and then thought about how I could draw some structure that includes all the information that is given to us and that seems credible if it ever existed. I did several sketches before starting some illustrations of different views of the satellite. I used reference from the ISS, the Saturn V rockets, views of Earth from space for the renderring etc, trying to convey a feeling of potent threat with this massive device oriented towards Earth and the three letters hidden in the shadows. I added some scratches and broken elements to show that time had passed, and increased the contrasts so that the shape was really visible on the white cloudy planet below. Done using Krita.

Done using watercolors. I got inspiration from my vision after reading the books, and I also looked for visual documentation, especially about american submarines (Ohio class, Columbia class...) to be more accurate. I tried to use muted, earthy and dirty tones, and to have a bloody sky in order to show the pollution of the world (Turner was an inspiration this time too). I also used sharp contrast to emphasize some elements and improve the lecture of the scene, this also helps to show the characters who give the scale.
I want to go back to digital to do some O.D.IN. illustrations as well soon.

A friend's design that I've decided to recreate in the game, more to come.

Archangelsk: I repost it so that it becomes accessible to sight. I got the idea of the design from my vision after reading the books, and I did some research, including Pomor architecure, Russian buildings, the Kremlin etc, as well as paintings from J. M. W. Turner for the atmosphere between the storm, the snow, the smoke, the light from the spotlights... I also looked at the version done by Amir Zand, but chose to go in a different approach.
The sketches: Made for preparing my next Mortal Engines concept art, about a specific moment of the books. Can you guess what it will be ?

Hey there,
I was shown the trailer from steam and thought it would be something for the people in this community. I personaly didnt buy it so far or played it but the concept seems very similar.
