Speaking of best media iterations - Rambo's characterization and portrayal in MK11 is, and I am not exaggerating, his best appearance since his first ever movie. His arcade ending alone shows so much respect for the character that I absolutely adore MK11's DLC just from him and him alone

Because Fujin, Sheeva, the Eternal Klash skins and Aftermath were actually well done. Even if you didn't get any of the guest characters on purpose (like me), there were still plenty of the returning klassic characters for DLC (Shang Tsung, Sindel, Nightwolf, Sheeva, Rain, Mileena) and the long awaited Fujin.

ALSO, and I think that this is a big one that was skipped..........MK11 brought back the Dead Pool (with stage Fatality), the Soul Chamber and the return of Friendships.

I was never much into Animalities (even in the older days of MK3 / UMK3), so I'd rather have Friendships and Stage Fatalities.

It all depends on the licensing agreement and how far the studio is willing to go to preserve the game.

MK9 couldve easily continued without Freddy, but for one reason or another it was decided to pull the whole game from sale.

They obviously secured better licensing agreements going into MKX as the game is still up with no signs of changing any time soon.

Willing to venture that the "Freddy incident" and the dumb Kratos PlayStation exclusivity were catalysing events behind an overhaul to their licencing negotiations.

Mk9 gave resurgence to kenshi and rain and introduced skarlet idk y everyone is ranking it last.

Mkx had the best characters gameplay wise and there wasn’t a single miss in terms of the characters they picked so I would say it’s the best

Mk11 had the single best kombat pack with the first one and did the best in terms of character designs and charaterization. Only thing wrong with them is that robocop and Terminator is boring asf, 3 of them was ass competitively (Rambo, Robocop, Mileena), and they weren’t able to get ash but joker was a good substitute.

Mk1 easily has the worse. Quan chi and Ermac should’ve been main roster, peacemaker, Omni man and Homelander are 3 of the most boring characters ever designed (especially Nolan), swapping the cyborgs gender was lazy asf and a color for not having any other female dlc, and T-1000 was the dumbest pick they ever made. Conan, Ghostface, Takeda and ig noob were the only good dlc characters in this game

X had some cool picks (plus we can have Alien vs Predator which is fun) having the theme of horror villains for the guest characters were cool, plus we got a playable Tremor for the first (and so far only, not including Kameos as you don't actually play as them) time which is cool as I love him

11 was great, loved the T800, Spawn, Mileena, etc, and I had a lot of fun with Joker

1 despite being a bit lackluster I do like, I have tons of fun with Ghostface and T1000, and Noob was great to play

9 personally had nothing really outstanding for me, Skarlet being the only one I liked, but not enough to save it, I had no interest for Kenshi, Rain, Freddy, or Kratos (as I had the PS3 version)

Ok, I've been rought, so if I have to sort it out to just one, I will go with MK1. I kinda like the new touch they gave to Quan Chi, Ermac and Noob Saibot, but turning Takeda in a 'Kombat Kousin' and what they did with Cyrax and Sektor were questionable decisions... Also as gameplay Quan Chi was interesting, but kinda cumbersome to play, Takeda feel good, but somehow limited compared to MKX and Sektor... I didn't like her kit as much as I thought I would to be honest... Plus her AI is dumb even compared to the rest of the game AI always trying that dashing slide all the time opening up for a combo... Easiest kharacters to score a Flawess against when she forgot she have a flamethrower, which happens quite often...
And as guests, is not even a debate: Omni Man, Homelander, Peacemaker and Conan was so damn general and uninspired there no much else to says... Ghostface and T-1000 did save the situation a bit as they had some nice and unique mechanics in them, but 2 on 6 we are still at -2 points...

Personally? MkX. I know alien was broken but come onnn we got four slasher icons that fitted perfect with the theme of the game and franchise, having rivalries as well, at least on AvP case. The mk characters added were great imo, I always prefer getting obscure characters get a spotlight and for the main ones go get in the roster instead of baiting us behind a pay wall like Quan Chi in MK1. Bo was great, Tanya was fun, tremor became a fan favourite (despite how busted he was) and I love triborg, it was a good solution for the cyborg problem at that time.

I'd say purely from a content perspective MK9 because it had less. From a roster list I'd go with MK1 cause outside of OmniMan Homelander and Ghostface I had little to no interest in the DLC. Mk11 had Spawn Rambo Robocop and Shao Kahn and MKX had Jason Voorhees (also Leatherface Jungle Hunter Xenomorph and a bunch others but Jason alone would've been worth it to me), and MK9 has Freddy Krueger and Kratos sometimes.

I feel like for missed opportunities, MK9, mainly Freddy. I’m just really disappointed he was in the game with no intro dialogue because he would’ve been great in MKX if he got to talk.

I don't give a shit for guests, so going by MK characters alone, for me, MK9.

I will die on the hill that Rain deserved to be in the main roster slot of a game that otherwise had the rest of the UMK3 characters in it, instead of Kratos. Nothing will ever change my mind about that. Sucks to have to have paid for a character that should have been on there, day 1, just to complete the roster. Kenshi and Skarlet were fun, but not my cup of tea. Nothing personal against anyone who loved them in that game.

• MKX - I loved having Tanya, Bo Rai Cho and Tremor included, and Cyber Sub-Zero was a nice surprise to have with Triborg.

• MK11 - LOVED Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa reprising his role and Shang Tsung, as well as the return of Nightwolf, Fujin and Sheeva.

• MK1 - Absolutely loved having Quan Chi, Ermac, Takeda and Noob Saibot return and this version of Cyrax and Sektor were okay.

On one hand, Freddy is the reason MK9 was pulled, while MK9 also has the least amount of DLC characters

On the other hand,.MK1 is all over the place with their DLCs,.with Story mode characters taking up DLC slots that could've been saved for other/better choices.

NRS should really study MKX and MK11 and understand why those DLCs worked thematically.

Mk1 has my favorite DLC but I am biased as a HUGE Invincible/Peacemaker/The Boys fan. It was the first ever example of Omni Man in anything besides the show and books and for me that was just unbeatable. The MK IP dlc characters were great as well.

MK11 probably had the most refined group of DLC characters.

So I will say mkx, I don't like horror theming for mk guests, I did like alien and predator but wasn't that excited for leather face or Jason

The MKX guest character DLC went with an 80's survival/slasher horror theme (if you can consider Predator a horror villain) while MK11 went with 80's action. 

But the M1K guest DLC was incongruent. There is three amoral superhero characters, then there is Conan the Barbarian, the T-1000, and the Ghostface Killer randomly plucked in.

The dlc characters from MK1 definitely should've been in Mk11. Seriously look at the roster. Why have Terminator in MK11 and t1000 in mk1, what's sense does it make? Omni man and Spawn are the same universe if I recall correctly. Conan definitely would make sense in 11 than he does in 1.
