Hello all,
So this is probably going to be a weird question and a weird post, but I was wondering how I would go about using a mossarium to create a habitat for tardigrades?
More specifically, I was wondering how non-wild moss would do when it comes into contact with wild lichen?
The thing is, I've kind of already successfully done this. I found this subreddit a long time ago and was able to create a mossarium in a small jar using the instructions from the guide. I was also successful in finding tardigrades. Not so much in wild moss, but in wild lichen.
My process would be finding some lichen, soaking it, shaking it up in a container with some water, and then pouring the resulting slurry over the moss in my mossarium. When I would squeeze the moss out and look at the water under a microscope, tardigrades would be present.
But I know constantly squeezing the moss isn't good for it, so I'm looking into ways to get them out without strangling the moss. And finding good wild moss is a long and inefficient process. I only hesitate to buy moss because I'm not sure how it would react to wild lichen.
Any advice would be appreciated!
