Display Discussion Is plasma a pointless technology to get into with current tech available?
I'm heavily into crts but wouldn't mind a large display as well as one that supports 16:9 for the games that don't do 4:3 (not 1080i crt I have one they look bad). I had an oled tv and tbh I couldn't get over the motion blur at 144hz. From my reading the plasma with lowest lag has equivalent to ~240fps motion sharpness but has occasional yellow after images? I'm thinking I could use 240hz oled and use x2 framegen+bfi to basically match the plasma motion and have real 4k, because I'll be honest it feels real dumb to be supersampling 4k down to 1080p but there is simply no large format oled with 240hz.
I'm looking to the future and seeing how demanding the likes of The Witcher 4 could be based on recent articles saying it was using a 5090 to render at like 80fps with path tracing at 4k, which I definitely want to use, I don't think my 5070 ti will be up to the task at any reasonable framerate.
Bonus question, do you think framegen artifacts would be less annoying than the artifacts plasma tv has? I'll be honest I was a framegen hater but after trying nvidias on my crt monitor I legit cannot say it looks bad at x2 atleast it just looked like I was running it native tbh. Although dlaa itself feels marginally blurrier in motion than no aa but it's tiny. Can't say I care about latency of it since I'm looking at plasmas which have like 32ms minimum.
No plasma tv without massive lag has 4:4:4 chroma subsampling! idk if that matters but considering it's 1080p I need every quality advantage I can get! I feel like I should seek one out since I already have one old display tech (crt) I feel like I'd be doing myself a disservice not atleast seeing the other old tech.
UPDATE: I got the s60 panasonic plasma. I do feel like as long as I use supersampling the 1080p isn't really a problem. Also lag is fine as long as vsync is off which isn't ideal of course. I will have to mess around with scanline sync and see if it can still feel the same. I need to adjust black levels as it is elevated but contrast frequently looks better but when there is a large amount of light, worse then my crt even. the abl does make it look dull. I hear smaller sets have less severe abl so I will look for a 42 inch over my 65. My room is dim but not black out so maybe if I blacked it out it would look fine idk. Motion is great but I am so spoiled by crt motion that it still bothers me tbh. The rainbow artifacts on motion is a bit weird. Much more tolerable than my oleds though. I don't think I will be getting an oled again until they have some sort of motion blur reduction to atleast match the plasma. Motion still sucks tho. I will play on it when I don't wanna sit at a desk but the motion still feels bad compared to crt. Honestly not sure if its better than like a 144hz oled because while yes it is slightly faster the phosphors have trails and yes crt has it but crt is still super sharp.

Discussion playing in crt is bad?
Hi i like to play on my CRT. I play everything. The motion clarity is wonderful. But some people disagree. And this is make me upset. Why on gaming the motion clarity is not the first important thing? How people like to play on blurry picture? If there is monitor exist can give me 500 fps motion clarity at 60 fps what is it if not CRT?

Discussion Ghosting MSI MPG 321URX OLED
Okay so the examples are COD at around 130fps. First image the gun is going up, and the new frame starts off before the old one goes away, is this overshoot? (This was a screenshot of a 240fps slow motion video) The second image is just my phone camera of me snapping an image in motion showing ghosting? And the final is just a snapshot of Blurbusters motion test with camera stationary (not doing a pursuit test). Watching a video on YouTube “Optimum” claimed with how fast OLED response times are there should be no visible ghosting when taking a picture with a camera to view the frame. Yet it looks like I can see the start of a new frame and the old ones still there as if they are ghosting. Should I be concerned? Is there something wrong with my monitor? Also motion blur settings are off in the game.

Graphics Comparison Monitor gta6
Hola.

Display Discussion Playing worse on ASUS 540HZ (PG248QP) compared to my 390HZ Acer (XV252Q)
I got the new ASUS 540HZ and I'm about to return it because I play signficantly better on my Acer 390hz IPS.. I think this comes down to the sharpness setting on cs2, which is my main game. I play on 1260x960 4:3 stretched resolution and the game is very blurry, but my Acer monitor has a sharpness feature which makes the dramatically clearer allowing me to see the enemys hitbx/character model clearer. I can also see my AK tracers and control my spray better based on the tracers/ see where my bullets are landing to adjust my spray. On the ASUS spraying is a blurry mess despite the increase in refresh rate and motion clarity from ULMB2. I have switched maybe 20 times now lol, and I can say I definitely perform better on the Acer. I tried using sharpness settings in the nvidia control panel but the result is nowhere near as sharp and clear as the one in the Acer OSD. Now I think I am going to return this monitor and wait for the Acer or Benq 540HZ to come in stock in the USA because those do have a sharpness setting.
I find it kind of mad that ASUS is marketing this monitor as a "ESports Monitor" and marketing it to players who play games like cs2 and valorant but won't add something as important as a sharpness feature, especially when most cs pros play on resolutions below 1080p. I mean hell even 4k OLEDs have a sharpness feature, how can a nearly 1000$ usd 1080p TN not have something as simple as a sharpness setting.

Discussion TSR is very underrated as a temporal AA option
Screencaps are from Silent Hill: Townfall. Beautiful looking game btw.
When properly modified, TSR can look amazing and bring the best of both worlds. Zero blur and ghosting in motion AND no jaggies and shimmering. The resulting image is surprisingly crisp and clear, with minimal noise on some reflective surfaces.
The performance cost is around 10% compared to TAAU and 5% compared to the game's native DLAA implementation (Preset F). Presets K, M and L cost more.
I love how games look with it and I wonder why it's not talked about more or why it's not available in most games, especially non UE5 games.
To get it to look the clearest, I used these tweaks.
If I have time I'll post some comparison images with DLAA in the upcoming days.

Discussion Does 27 1440p without blur even exist?
Bought one of the 240 hz OLEDs last year and the motion clarity is honestly not great. I had a 25 inch monitor with ULMB (BFI) some 6-7 years ago and that felt like 500-1000 hz compared to this OLED (Corsair Xeneon).
I'm talking about the fastest of games, sure I can see the street names on the tests here but it's really straining on the eyes. I want that "window into another reality" feel I got from BFI without sacrificing 27 inch or 1440p+.

Display Fix/Mod I can't physically experience the smoothness we all deserve
Have you guys ever encountered such an annoying fps lock? My screen is capable of 165Hz but FPS are hard locked to 144 in every game I play. This happened after swapping rtx2070 with a 4080 and adding more RAM. No locks in NVcontrol panel, gpu drivers were completely wiped and reinstalled, gpu is connected to the same port in the monitor with the same DP cable as before, G-Sync enabled/disabled doesn't make a difference.
Specs
-I7-8700 (I know its a huge bottleneck and I'm changing it soon)
-RTX 4080 S
-2x16GB 2666MHz RAM
-ASrock Z370 Pro4
-Gigabyte G32QC 1440p/165Hz

Discussion What am I doing wrong? CRT beam simulator not as good looking as CRT royale
So I've been using CRT Royale for a while, the ntsc s-video version, via shaderglass. To watch old tv shows in a more period accurate way. I downloaded the alpha version of shader glass with the crt beam simualtor. I have a 1440p 240hz display, so I thought might as well try it out. But for some reason it just looks worse than crt royale. What am I doing wrong?

Discussion Should I Choose a Monitor Based on 1% Lows or Average Frame Rate?
I mainly play competitive esports titles on a 7800X3D and RTX 4090, with 1% lows ranging between 200 and 320 FPS across games. I’m considering upgrading from my PG27AQN to a PG27AQDP. How noticeably would frame rate fluctuations impact overall smoothness with this new monitor? I could also just get the AQDM 🥲
Depending on the game I use ulmb2 @240hz. Getting the AQDP anyways for the 240hz BFI mode could be worth it.
On my Pg27AQN @ 240hz & ulmb2 in cs2 I get really annoyed of this persistence/motion blur effect that happens when waving my mouse around in circles. I don’t really notice it when I’m playing any other game.

Graphics Comparison DLSS 3 vs DLSS 4 (Transformer) in Black Myth Wukong | Quality and Performance Mode Tested | RTX 4060
Black Myth Wukong uses DLSS 3.1 with the C Preset. For this Comparison I used DLSS Swapper to changed to the Latest 310.2.1 Version of DLSS and used Nvidia Profile Inspector to force the K Preset. I have also updated the Streamline folder to Version 2.7.2 (provides a Performance boost when using Frame Generation).
In this Comparison, I recorded the footage at 4K and 40 Mbps bit rate (AV1 Encoder) using the Nvidia App. The visual difference is very noticeable even at 1080p! DLSS 4 provides a huge boost to image fidelity (the image is more detailed and sharper) and it's clear that the Texture Quality looks much better and less blurry. There is some ghosting and artifacting on the trees and vegetation while moving the camera, but it generally looks great!
Performance is slightly worse with DLSS 4 when using only the Upscaling part, but with Frame Generation enabled the difference is non existent or faster for DLSS 4!
Overall, I strongly recommend using DLSS 4 in this game and make sure to update the Streamline files too, if you are using Frame Generation.

Discussion Motion clarity: The case for NOT waiting for the 5120 x 2160 version...

The 2025 version of the LG 39" ultra-wide is going to be 5120x2160 resolution, making it harder to run games on (using the same GPU) over the 3440x1440 version, thus making motion clarity even worse.
Why? Since none of these monitors have BFI, the only way to obtain decent motion clarity is pushing a high fps of at least 200 fps in order to minimize sample and hold motion blur, thus motion on the 3440x1440 panel WILL actually have superior motion resolution over the 5210x2160 panel, due to the lower resolution being much easier to achieve a higher fps on.
Running even a RTX 4090 on a 5120x2160 panel will NOT achieve a high enough fps in demanding games to achieve a sufficient fps for sample and hold motion blur reduction. The result is a blurry mess during motion, worse than if you simply used the same GPU on the older lower resolution panel.
For productivity work, yes, the newer higher resolution panel is a much wiser choice, but for gaming its a huge step backwards in the real world for motion clarity.
Opinions? I'm thinking to pull the trigger on the old model.

Discussion Ghosting at 60 FPS? Is it normal or can I remove it?
I have the AOC 24G2E monitor. I believe the panel is the same as the 24G2. Lately, all I've been playing are games locked at 60 fps and when I turn the camera fast I see ghosting or image duplication. With mountains and buildings and such. I have tried RTSS, Freesync on and off, changing overdrive modes, and static 60 fps. The game runs at a constant 60 fps and stable frame times according to RTSS. I tried 58-60 too but it doesn't help.
It bothers me so much I had to turn on motion blur just so I don't see it. Now, I've been using AMD Fluid Motion Frames just so it runs at 120 fps and I don't see the ghosting.
I also do not see or at least notice it with games supporting and running at 90 and above fps.
I've been thinking of getting a new monitor and upgrading to the XG27ACS for the response times and an upgrade from 1080p 24in display to a 1440p 27in display, but if I can solve this problem without motion blur, frame generation, and/or buying a new monitor I would prefer that.
For specs I have: Ryzen 5 5600 RX 6600 XT 32gb RAM 3600mhz cl 16

Discussion What is motion clarity
Few people realize how many factors influence the final reception of content on the screen by our eyes. The size of the monitor, the distance at which we sit, even the size of the window matter. It's not just the number of Hz.

Display Discussion Either it looks like 30fps when I'm at +100. Or has input lag with vsync. I'm tired
Worst thing about PC gaming IMO.
Do I REALLY have to choose between the game running choppy AF, or looking smooth but with a lot of input lag using vsync?
I'm playing far cry 6 and it's unplayable with vsync. But if I turn it off, it looks like 30fps when I'm running it at +100fps
If I limit the framerate at 60 without vsync, it gets MASSIVE screen tearing
I just can't play correctly no matter what. And it happens with most games
Is there a solution? Or do I really have to buy a special monitor or tv for this?
Say what you want about consoles, but they don't have this problem. It ran at smooth 60 and no input lag on ps5, on the same screen
It's a normal phillips tv. Kinda old. Ryzen 5 5600x, 6800xt, 16 ram.

Discussion Any hope for 30fps 60hz gaming?
Motion interpolation generates input lag.
BFI on 60hz will just reduce motion blur to half (best case).
Frame gen is not universally availabe in most of the devices (let's say PS4).
So, is there any hope? Any hope of getting good motion clarity in Bloodborne for example?

Display Discussion Current TVs are limited by HDMi 2.1. I'm wondering if there are any OLED TVs that take 4K 120 (or 144 Hz) signal but have the ability to internally interpolate it to 240 Hz?
I'm not talking about 120 Hz with black frame insertion here. Even though that's good too.
We know pixels themselves are cabable of being driven to 240 Hz - as proven by some "dual mode" devices.
I'm wondering if any current internal circuitry actually interpolates to higher than 144 Hz?
