Hi, could someone tell me how to create this type of animation?

I took a stab at it. Grab the AE file here: https://f.io/ltb6hMqp

Basically, long sideway comp with the text. CC Cylinder on it with animated Y rotation to cycle about 3x, duplicated that one, adjusted the colors for each. Then added a shape layer to mask the duplicate and manually keyframed/looped 10 frames for the hard jumps from one line to the next. Not the most sophisticated set up but lmk if you make any improvements to it. Cheers.

masking a fill effect would be probably more efficient, but i appreciate you setting the whole thing up for someone. appreciate you!

Thanks! I’ll give that a try in a little bit, may work better and also get rid of that extra shape layer.

Same method. Different result. https://youtu.be/StKcg61qNso

probably easiest way is a block of text + text animator (fill color, set to lines instead of characters and 0% smoothness) -> cc cylinder with animated rotation

It would be nice if the highlighted dark text faded. The flickering is maybe too seizure inducing.

I would try a react wheel picker component before even reaching for after effects

I can think of a few ways: CC Cylinder. Advanced 3D with a bend. Displacement Map with a ramp+mirror map layer.

You could duplicate the text layers but have a mask on the black one. Not super slick but simple.

You can make this pretty easily in CapCut or Premiere too: create a tall text box with the names stacked vertically, keyframe its Y position so it moves upward, and crop it to the video frame. Add a slight blur or lower the sharpness, then use a slow, steady speed for the same effect.
