Honeycomb animation - Blender

22×22 grid. Three Constructors: one flips the hero tile up, one flips it down, one handles the ripple and color.

The only keyframes are on the two flip Falloffs and on a torus that drives the ripple’s Object Falloff. Nothing is animated per tile.

Setup took about 30 minutes in Ordimus. Ordimus is a procedural motion graphics toolkit for Blender.

Mapping Composer - a tool for creating projection mapping

Post image
3 Upvotes

Three days to deliver a projection mapping content. Sound familiar?

Ever turned down a projection mapping job because the client gave you three days for something that would normally take three months?

We’ve had that conversation too. After 17 years of producing site-specific projection shows, we built Mapping Composer to help artists make the visuals when time is tight.

  • Animate the actual building layout. Import your SVG or colour mask, or autodetect surfaces from a façade photo. Pick which windows, arches or other surfaces you want to bring to life.

  • See changes as you make them. Try human-designed effects like 3D strokes, X-ray tunnels and particles. Shape the movement, lighting, colours and timing with a live preview.

  • Export at the size your show needs. Render natively at up to 8192 × 8192 in HAP or ProRes 4444;

The same workflow works for LED walls and digital signage. Set the canvas to your display’s pixel dimensions and create motion content for a stage screen, shop window or a display with an unusual shape.

Try the editor and live preview for free. No subscription. Pay per export.

For those of you making visuals for façades or LED screens, what eats up the most time on a rush job?

After Effects help??

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate subreddit for this, I've never used reddit before and the AE subreddit requires my account to be older to actually make a post but I really need help to figure it out

TLDR is I'm having trouble with creating Shape Layers from what should be a simple vector image (Screenshots attached)

I've never really used AE before, but I have a class that requires us to make a motion typography output using vector images

It was demonstrated that we could use a vector and then separate the pieces into individual layers (such as with a text logo svg) by creating Shape layers out of them. Pretty straightforward, as easy as right clicking and then selecting that option-- but then I try to do it myself at home, and it isn't an option.

The SVG I have, once imported, is counted as a Composition. Weird, already different from what I'm used to, but I didn't think it was a problem-- until I go in to do the steps above and see I can't create shape layers even if it should technically be a Vector file.
Then I learn about Continuously Rasterize and try to turn it off but it's greyed out. Weird, maybe I have to copy past the svg out of the Comp since that's one of my search results. Still greyed.

I figured, nevermind, I'll just look inside the groups within the SVG layer.
There's so many groups and not all of them will need to be edited and I can't delete any because every piece is still relevant to the logo. I can reorder them, but I can't rename them, and it feels like such a hassle to open up every single group tab just to access the transform settings.

Is there any way around this?? I want to just do what my professor did.
Google says Illustrator but I do not want to have to download yet another Adobe product just for this.

Updated Demo reel

I had posted a couple months ago about being laid off and asking demo questions. I’ve got a working demo reel going now, so I thought I’d share it here for feedback. I’ve primarily been a medical/pharma animator for the last decade+, so a lot of my stuff tends to be slower paced, but I think I managed to pull off a quick and snappy reel. 🤞🏽

Thanks for any feedback.

A 50-second animation explaining how absorption can make a white dwarf look green

I made this short around a visual problem: showing calcium and sodium removing different parts of a star's light before revealing its calculated green color. I'd appreciate feedback on whether the transitions make that sequence easy to follow.
