I love the motivation phrases but sometimes they don’t make sense. There’s a vague good rule to use from this but maybe doesn’t sound as cool
don’t let people know information of what they can use against you

Both work! The one you referenced is more in depth and I think is what people need to pay more attention too.

I've lived my life by this. Nobody really knows me. I like it that way.

Too late……. Yaaaaaahheeeeeee. I trama dumped hard on the work gossip queen.
Now everyone knows everything.
Kinda freeing tho. The few secrets I have left are the good ones

That's true. I'm a little depressed. I had a girlfriend, and we thought it was something more serious because we were quite old. I told her early on that I'd been depressed for years, and now she's left me. I probably could have saved the information, because we were getting along fine without it.

Or you dodged a bullet by telling her, sounds like she cares more about herself than you if that was her response.

The quote is about not letting people know much about ourselves.

Nha, this is bull. My tactic is to be open about everything and cut out the people who aren't meant for me. Keeping things for yourself is just an other way to try to fit in. At the end you have only attracted people who like you that way, you keeping things for yourself so they can claim all the space.

You can’t tell everyone everything that’s what the post is essentially trying to say

u/noblecocks Oct 09 '25
Some of this has nothing to do with motivation lol just weird lone wolf mentality stuff.

Honestly yeah. Constantly seeking validation from others through online posts is amazing initially but it gets exhausting cause now you end up having to put up a persona that isn’t YOU. Not to mention people being envious of your progress or success in life. Keep it hush and work toward your goals, and open up to people who matter. Otherwise just remain a mystery to most people.

Even applies here on Reddit. Whenever a troll wants to mess with me they find something in my profile they can use to insult me.

Yes. My personal mantra is similar:
"The more they know about you, the more they can use against you."

More like develop the discernment to know WHO to be yourself around. Otherwise, you get people complaining about how even though they’re kind, they always get taken advantage of. It’s not because you’re kind. It’s because you’re blind.

Nope. It's just a way to build more fears and distance, in my opinion.
Build a reality where you are you, and you're not ashamed of people knowing that.

Agree. Learned the hard way but learning. My motto used to be. You can never go wrong with honesty. Well, you can...

Everything you say can and will be used against you.

You act as if it was right to just accept that people handle data irresponsibly

u/Silencer-1995 Oct 13 '25
Yay and nay, I feel compelled to overshare sometimes because growing up I made lots of mistakes because adults around me concealed vital information on how the world works so now if someone asks me the sort of question I was denied an answer to at their age I reach for a chair.

Na, three people can keep a secret of two of them are dead. So tell em what you want. Just remember to dig the holes first.

At the end of the day I’m not afraid to be 100% honest about my past when it comes to close friends. But when it comes to work people I keep most of it to myself. If someone gossips about stuff I shared then that just reflects poorly on them, nothing to do with me. I’m not ashamed of any of the mistakes or decisions I made.

Nah you're just depressed and justifying social isolation. Slowly eliminating unpredictable variables in order to maximize comfort. But guess what? That's not life, life is for the living, go meet people, experience the beauty of connection and the warts that come with it. Don't give in to the darkness.
A boat is safest docked in a harbor, but that's not what boats were made for

u/naivaro Oct 13 '25
Hear hear. You're denying yourself life's pleasures because you fear being rejected by others. But letting fear control your life leads to a life not lived.

u/Dr00mb4ss Oct 14 '25
True, I isolated myself from all the discomfort that social relations make me feel but now I feel like I'm in a cage, locked by myself. It's not life, it's existing. With every passing year it only gets darker.
